New UK book covers!!

This topic serves as an archive of a thread from the Harry Potter Lexicon Forum as hosted on World Crossing which ceased operation on April 15, 2011. At that time, this thread was still set in the "Archived Thread to be Worked" folder of the WC forum. Elanor

Great links!

Wish I had them. I just hate US covers! I would never buy a book with such a lousy art on it if I hadn't heard about JKR before.

Well, you could probably order them off of Bloomsbury's website when they come out. I'm sure they deliver abroad.

Those all look like photographs. Does anyone know if they are? If so, do you know where the photos were taken for COS and POA? Do you have any other background information about the cover art?

74% obsessed! Uconn Jew Crew says: is it August yet?
As Prefecr Marcus says on the "new aduld book covers thread"..."they apeal to the adult in me." Well, they apeal to the adult in me too, but i'm not sure that's a good thing.

Personally, they could wrap the books in grocery store brown bags for all I care - it's what's inside that counts. Looks are only skin deep, but what's inside is priceless.

Yeah, but if you're trying to get an adult to read the book (or teenager, they're even worse, especially ones my age) then they're likely to not be very interested if you hold up a book with a boy looking at a train that's got stars coming out of the funnel. I would, but a lot of teenagers are so intent on being grown up! (Even more so than the real grown-ups. )The new covers make them look more serious and grown-up.

For my granddaughter, it was money that did the trick. We promised to pay her $.10 a page and she read the first three books last summer. She is nine years old. This coming summer it will be books four and five and she said we didn't have to pay her. She loves them!!

I have stopped any additional posts to this thread being that there were two threads covering the same subject and the other was posted four minutes earlier. One of the edit tools that World Crossing removed was the ability to combine two threads; therefore I have not alternative except to close one of the two. I would appreciate if each of the posters on this thread please add your comments to the thread New UK book covers!!. I will delete this thread once the posts here are added to the surviving thread. - Kip (Jun 20 edit)
I will be deleting this thread within the next 72 hours. If the posts are not added to the surviving thread, I will possibly moved some of these posts to the surviving thread. - Kip (Jun 21 edit)
I have copied and pasted Prefect Marcus's post which established a new thread The new "adult" book covers. on Jan 20, 2004 3:03 pm which I said I would delete. - Kip (Jun 25 edit)

Check out the new adult book covers over at TLC. Or try [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I must say that I am impressed. I have never been the least bit bothered at reading the standard covers in public. In fact, I have no problem reading Richard Scary and/or Dr. Seuss while amongst my adult peers. If it bothers them, that's their problem. I've never felt the least bit interested in the adult covers up to now. It seemed rather pointless, in a way. They bordered on pretentious.

However, these new covers look fantastic. I would love Scholastic to come out with similar ones. There is something about them that says "This is a serious book."

Maybe it is best expressed by saying, "They appeal to the adult in me."

What do you guys think?

They look very Nicky French.

I like them, but I also like sitting in the train with my multicoloured "kidsversion" of OoP.

I moved this post and the previous two posts from the now deleted thread The new "adult" book covers. and therefore the flow of thought was altered. The most recent message was Liz Mann Post #10. -Kip

My goodness, they are fantastic! They convey such a wonderful sense of mystery and eerieness. Hmmm, may need to get another set of HP books.

Ciao. Barb

I like my British Kids version of the books... but I have to say I like these... The dark but striking colours appeal to me.

I think the new UK covers are fabulous. I have been trying to purchase them for a week. Where can I order them? Who do I call? The new UK covers express the HP series more accurately than the kiddie covers which I don't particularly like. I am especially bored with the American kiddie covers. They look like the books are just for 3rd graders.

The American kiddie covers? :::giggle::: As far as I am aware, those of us in the US are only graced with one cover. Well...that is not quite true. There is a plain blue mass market cover that came out following the movies. Other than that, there is not any distinction between an adult version and a children's version. We all have to hike over to the kiddie section to get our copies.

Boooooooooo, I wonder if I call Bloomsbury Publishing in Britain. and ask if there is anyway to purchase the new UK adult book covers. They look so mysterious and beautiful. I really wants them. *in Gollum's voice*

Flame, just order them from the UK amazon site. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

This thread had not received a post since February 16, 2004 and was faced with automatic deletion in roughly twenty minutes.

I felt that it should be saved due to some of the information provided. I have changed its status to Permanent and moved it to the Archive area for future editing.

I have closed any further posting to this thread.
