Which wizard would you choose as a companion if you had to be marooned on a deserted island? Please tell your top 3 choices.

1) Harry Potter....he's....well, he's Harry Potter!

2) Ron Weasley....he's very protective....but he's also a afraid of spiders!

3) Neville Longbottom...a man who knows his plants...could come in handy

4) Fred and/or George Weasley....you know a good time will be had by all!

5) Bill Weasley....just in case curse needs to be broken

6) Charlie Weasley...just in case there be dragons

7) Percy Weasley...just in case....you need to measure the thickness of a cauldron bottom?

8 ) Seamus Finnigan....just in case you need something blown up

9) Draco Malfoy...just in case you need some Dark Magic?

10) Oliver Wood...just in case you NEED to play some Quidditch

Edited to add the beginnining and ending dates for this poll in the title, for uniformity's sake.

Hmm...not sure what I'd talk to Harry about. And Ron would get grumpy and irritable if there wasn't enough to eat. I'll settle for

1) Bill (he's handsomer than Charlie )

2) Charlie

3) Neville (I like plants )

legolas returns - Mar 29, 2009 2:01 am (#2 of 27)

I think you would need the following people

4)The Twins (You might as well make it a party and have some fun.)

5)Bill (He's cool and handsome)

3)Neville (his survival skills-knowing what is safe to eat if you get hungry)

Verity Weasley - Mar 29, 2009 4:47 am (#3 of 27)

Well the first two choices are easy. Definitely:

1) Fred and/or George Weasley

2) Neville Longbottom

Third choice is a bit harder. Mona makes a good point about Ron being grumpy through lack of food, so I think I'll go for

3) Seamus Finnigan - it will be a good opportunity to get to know him a bit better.

- - - - - - - - - -
Elanor - Mar 29, 2009 5:07 am (#4 of 27)

1) Harry Potter

3) Neville Longbottom

10) Oliver Wood (we're allowed to pick movie Oliver Wood, right? )

Charlie, Neville and Oliver

PeskyPixie - Mar 29, 2009 7:28 am (#6 of 27)

3) Neville Longbottom ... the boy knows what he's doing, plus, he's brave!

5) Bill Weasley ... I'm sure he's very talented, but it's definitely the eye candy I'm after here.

6) Charlie Weasley ... it's like having the ultimate wilderness guy with you. Who wouldn't want that?

- - - - - - - - - -
Dryleaves - Mar 29, 2009 7:38 am (#7 of 27)

3) Neville

5) Bill

6) Charlie

freshwater - Mar 29, 2009 8:20 am (#8 of 27)

10) Oliver Wood (we're allowed to pick movie Oliver Wood, right?)--Elanor

That's definately what I had in mind when I put him on the list, Elanor!

I agree with Pesky:

6) Charlie Weasley ... it's like having the ultimate wilderness guy with you. Who wouldn't want that?

I'm surprised that, so far, only one person has picked:

1) Harry Potter....he's....well, he's Harry Potter!

In circumstances where you don't know what dangers/challenges to expect, I'd definately want someone who's proven he can handle the unexpected at a moment's notice.

For my third choice....it's a touch call: Neville or Oliver? Oliver or Neville? Nev is a sweetheart and has proven his courage and leadership skills....but I think I might NEED to play some Quidditch , so....10) Oliver Wood.

Potteraholic - Mar 29, 2009 11:56 am (#9 of 27)

1) Harry Potter
3) Neville Longbottom
5) Bill Weasley

azi - Mar 29, 2009 12:03 pm (#10 of 27)

5. Bill Weasley (he's cool)
4. Fred/George Weasley (they're fun)
6. Charlie Weasley (there must be wild animals on desert islands)

Choices - Mar 29, 2009 12:50 pm (#11 of 27)

Oh, definitely the twins. They are easy on the eyes and would keep me laughing. They are also very clever. Then Oliver Woods (hopefully he looks like movie Oliver - too cute!) and finally, Bill Weasley (he must be smart to be a curse breaker).

- - - - - - - - - -
Solitaire - Mar 29, 2009 2:44 pm (#12 of 27)

5) Bill Weasley....just in case curse needs to be broken
10) Oliver Wood...just in case you NEED to play some Quidditch

My third choice ... probably Harry, although it really is a tie between him and Neville.

Edit: I just checked the Polls thread, and if it's kids only, it changes a bit ... to Harry, Ron and Neville.

Thom Matheson - Mar 29, 2009 5:30 pm (#13 of 27)

4,5,1 in that order. The twins for there humor, and grit, Bill for leadership, and Harry, because, well he's Harry.

me and my shadow 813 - Mar 29, 2009 10:40 pm (#14 of 27)

1) Harry - we have a lot in common

3) Neville - I'm an herbalist

6) Charlie - I don't care for any of the other choices... so Charlie because we both enjoy animals and living abroad

- - - - - - - - - -
Mrs Brisbee - Mar 30, 2009 5:22 am (#15 of 27)

3) Neville Longbottom...he seems mellow.

5) Bill Weasley...level headed.

6) Charlie Weasley...rugged and outdoorsy, what more could I ask for?

(He's not on the list, but I'd rather have Arthur Weasley than any of them. It would be like having "The Professor" along, and he could make all sorts of fun gadgets, but they would be magical too.)

A future poll will feature the adults and professors as possible companions on a deserted island....."stay tuned"!

Liz Mann - Mar 31, 2009 2:11 pm (#17 of 27)

I'd go for:

1) Harry, because he's great in survival situations

2) The Twins, to make light of the scary situation

3) Neville, because his plant knowledge might come in handy

- - - - - - - - - -
Orion - Apr 1, 2009 7:31 am (#18 of 27)

1) Ron

2) the twins

That makes three!

- - - - - - - - - -
Chemyst - Apr 1, 2009 7:46 am (#19 of 27)

1 - Charlie, for muscle
2 - Bill, well-rounded assets and fewer libilities
3 - Can't I just be alone? Well, then, Neville because he'd probably be the most likely to do what I say.

Ludicrous Patents Office - Apr 3, 2009 9:12 pm (#20 of 27)

1. Harry, he is good at surviving and has a saving people complex. Might work in my favor.

2. Charlie, I like the outdoors, rugged type

3. The Twins, very inventive.

We must suppose, I guess, that none of these wizards would just Disapparate from the island after five minutes, leaving the Muggle behind?

Hm... Thinking of the twins: With them on the island, there would be five of us. I wonder which of us three would be the object of their practical jokes? Of course, if I chose Percy, too, the "object" would probably be Percy... But I'd rather not. It would be safer to take another Weasley, who could tell any number of funny anecdotes about the twins.

Let's see: Charlie would be great with dragons. On the other hand,if there are no dragons, we would have to spend the evenings talking about dragons or Quidditch or singing about Odo.

I like Bill a lot, but then I also like Ron. Actually, I like Ron's sense of humour. Ron is afraid of spiders... but he can overcome his fears if necessary. I also know him better than Bill.

Those who are not Weasleys:

Definitely not Draco or Wood. Seamus? Not really.

Neville knows the plants. Good point. He is also easy to get on with, which is very important in a small place.

Harry... is Harry, of course. Besides, he is a Parselmouth! There seem to be perhaps more snakes in the wizarding world than dragons. But Harry can deal with a dragon, too.

Harry, Ron and Neville.

As in the past, this poll will run for two weeks, ending Sunday, April 12. But one (or two) new polls will start this week --and run for 2 weeks-- so hopefully we will have a new poll each week. At least, that's the plan!

While cruising the archives of the Votes thread I came across a poll that had been closed but not tallied. Kip gave me permission to tally it up, so....check out the "Rank the Seven Books" thread to see the results.

freshwater - Apr 13, 2009 12:46 pm (#25 of 27)

Here are the results for this poll:

Which wizard would you choose as a companion if you had to be marooned on a deserted island? Please tell your top 3 choices.

15% 1) Harry Potter....he's....well, he's Harry Potter!

5% 2) Ron Weasley....he's very protective....but he's also a afraid of spiders!

24% 3) Neville Longbottom...a man who knows his plants...could come in handy

14% 4) Fred and/or George Weasley....you know a good time will be had by all!

18.6% 5) Bill Weasley....just in case curse needs to be broken

14% 6) Charlie Weasley...just in case there be dragons

0% 7) Percy Weasley...just in case....you need to measure the thickness of a cauldron bottom?

1.7% 8 ) Seamus Finnigan....just in case you need something blown up

0% 9) Draco Malfoy...just in case you need some Dark Magic?

8.5% 10) Oliver Wood...just in case you NEED to play some Quidditch

To sum up:

24% of our votes went for Neville Longbottom

18.6% of our votes went to Bill Weasley

15% of our votes went to Harry Potter

There was a tie for 4th place with 14% of our votes going to both Fred & George Weasley and to Charlie Weasley.

8.5% of our votes went to Oliver Wood.

1.7% of the votes went to Seamus Finnegan.

Both Percy Weasley and Draco Malfoy received no votes at all.....and I'm sure that each is equally pleased to be lumped in with the other.

Thanks for the poll results, freshwater. Not surprised that folks didn't choose Draco or Percy, but felt bad that Ron got only 5% of our votes (even though I didn't vote for him either).

Connections, speculation, discussion: the best part of HP reading! Check out the on-going HP Lex Forum series re-read! Currently reading GoF...
And I even left poor Ron out of the final summary!

I was a bit surprised that Neville outstripped both Bill and Harry --not to metion Oliver Wood!-- by so much! Who would have guessed this outcome for this poll back when we were all reading PS/SS for the first time? Take that, Augusta!
