Who would you like to see on a Famous Witch/Wizard Card on JKR's official website? (poll beginning 4-13-08 and ending 4-27-08)

Because there are so many good choices, this poll will have 4 parts: Hogwarts' students, adult good guys, adult bad guys, and non-humans. Please vote for only 1 or 2 within each section.

PART I: Which current/former Hogwarts' student would you most like to see on a FW/W Card? (Harry is such an obvious choice that he will not be listed here) Please vote for one or two.

1) Ron Weasley: aide to The Chosen One in defeating Voldemort

2) Hermione Granger: aide to The Chosen One in defeating Voldemort

3) Neville Longbottom: leader of resistance at Hogwarts in final year of Voldemort's bid for power, defiant to Voldemort's face/killer of Nagini

4) Fred and George Weasley: founders of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, creators of defensive cloaks/hats for MoM workers, fought in Battle of Hogwarts.

5) Lee Jordan: voice of Potterwatch, announcer of Quidditch matches at Hogwarts

6) Colin Creevey: underage fighter, died in Battle of Hogwarts

PART II: Which adult fighting on the side of the Light would you like to see on a FW/W Card? Please vote for one or two.

1) Molly Weasley: member OotP, fought in Battle of Hogwarts, killed Bellatrix Lestrange

2) Kingsley Shacklebolt: Auror, member OotP, interim Minister for Magic after Battle for Hogwarts

3) Prof. McGonagall: prof. of Transfiguration, member OotP, leader in Battle of Hogwarts, Headmistress of Hogwarts (after the battle, I imagine)

4) Severus Snape: Potions' Master, Hogwarts' professor, confidant of Albus Dumbledore, member OotP and double-agent providing info about Voldemort, killed by LV personally

5) Alastor Moody: aka: Mad-Eye Moody, renowned Auror, member OotP, killed during the removal of Harry Potter from the home of his Muggle relatives

6) Remus J. Lupin: werewolf, member OotP, DADA teacher at Hogwarts for one year, opposed Voldemort and died during the Battle of Hogwarts

PART III: Which adult supporter of Voldemort would you most like to see on a FW/W card? Please vote for one or two.

1) Bellatrix Lestrange: first lieutenant to Voldemort, Death Eater, killed and tortured many, escapee from Azkaban

2) Fenrir Greyback: infamous werewolf, supporter of LV

3) Delores Umbridge: former Under-secretary to Min. Fudge, temporarily DADA teacher and Headmistress of Hogwarts, Head of Muggle-born Registration Commission

4) Lucius Malfoy: Death Eater, used wealth to bribe Ministry officials and influence decisions, his wand and manor house were utilized by LV during the Second War

5) Gellert Grindelwald: dark wizard who terrorized Europe, defeated by Albus Dumbledore in 1945

6) Tom Riddle: aka: Lord Voldemort, half-blood who promoted pure-blood prejudices, rose to power through dark magic, intimidation, murder and torture, and ruthless efforts to make himself immortal, his defeat by infant Harry Potter resulted in 13 years of relative peace, killed by Harry Potter at the conclusion of the Battle of Hogwarts

PART IV: Which non-human would you most like to see on a FW/W card? Please vote for one or two.

1) Dobby: a free elf and hero of the Second War, rescued Harry Potter and others from the Malfoy mansion which led to his death, also assisted Potter during the Tri-Wizard Tournament

2) Kreacher: house elf of the Black family, led Hogwarts house-elves in attacks on Dark wizards in the Battle of Hogwarts

3) Rubeus Hagrid: Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts, teacher of Care of Magical Creatures, trusted colleague of Albus Dumbledore, half-brother of the giant Grawp, fought in the Battle of Hogwarts

4) Grawp: giant who fought on the side of the Light in the Battle of Hogwarts, half-brother to Rubeus Hagrid, assisted in capture of Delores Umbridge in Forbidden Forest

5) Griphook: goblin, assisted Harry Potter and friends in breaking into a h

azi - Apr 13, 2008 9:06 am (#1 of 24)

Part I - 4

Part II - 3 Definitely! Although I wouldn't mind any of them to be honest.

Part III - Hmm it's between 1, 4 and 5. I'll go with 1. 5 is a close second though.

Part IV - I suppose 1 but I'm not really fussed on this one.

Swedish Short-Snout - Apr 13, 2008 9:30 am (#2 of 24)
Edited by Apr 13, 2008 9:31 am

Part I - 5, Lee Jordan.

Part II - 6, Remus Lupin.

Part III - 1, Bellatrix Lestrange.

Part IIII - 1, Dobby.

geauxtigers - Apr 13, 2008 9:33 am (#3 of 24)

Part 1

1. Ron
2. Hermione

They stuck with Harry from the very start. I think that all of these choices deserve the honor, but Harry wouldn't have killed Voldemort much less survived DH if it hadn't been for these two.

Part 2

4. Snape
6. Lupin

Part 3

4. Lucius Malfoy because I think he may have seen the error of his ways in the end when he realized that his son's life would be in jeopardy. I think there was some redemption for the whole Malfoy family.

Part 4

1. Dobby hands down! *sniff*
3. Hagrid, he's so loyal and he never backs down, though I would have put him in the adult category.

TwinklingBlueEyes - Apr 13, 2008 10:12 am (#4 of 24)

1. 3

2. 2

3. 5

4. 1

Julia H. - Apr 13, 2008 10:50 am (#5 of 24)

All of them of course. But if I must choose:

I. Ron and Hermione for sure.

II. Snape and Lupin.

II. Grindelwald and Riddle seem to be the most significant dark wizards.

IV. Dobby and Hagrid (though I find it hard to regard Hagrid as "non-human").

Anna L. Black - Apr 13, 2008 11:30 am (#6 of 24)

Part I - 1) Ron and 3) Neville.

Part II - 4) Snape and 1) Molly

Part III - Can we abstain? I'll choose 5) Grindelwald and 6) Voldemort, as all the others are not really famous, while those two are. But I don't really think they should have their cards.

Part IV - 1) Dobby. I'd vote for Griphook, as he helped HRH, but he betrayed them, so he doesn't deserve it.

Also, freshwater, it seems as though the end of your poll was cut. Are there more options?

Elanor - Apr 13, 2008 11:59 am (#7 of 24)

1 - I really can't choose, they all so much deserve it! I'll vote 7 - the whole DA (even if it doesn't count )

2 - 4 and 6 , Snape and Lupin

3 - 4 and 5, Lucius and Grindelwald because they both showed something close to remorse and tried to protect Draco for Lucius and Dumbledore's tomb for Grindelwald.

4 - 1 and 2, Dobby and Kreacher. IMO, Hagrid deserves a category just for himself (ok, and Madame Maxime). He is not "not-human" but on the contrary he is the quintessence of a human being.

freshwater - Apr 13, 2008 12:01 pm (#8 of 24)

I did reach the end of the capability of the page, Anna, but the only bit cut off was a rest of the description of Griphook... I did not have a #6 in Part IV.

I can see where Hagrid could have fit in the "adult good-guy" category, but it seems that JKR often pointed out his half-giantness as being different from human. I think Remus mentioned in DH that Polyjuice only worked on humans, so he didn't feel the need to check Hagrid's identity. I did not intend any disrespect to Hagrid --one of my very favorite characters in HP-- by putting him in the non-human category. I'll agree with Elanor.... Hagrid may not be 'human', but he is the essence of humane throughout the series.

PeskyPixie - Apr 13, 2008 12:34 pm (#9 of 24)

And let's not forget that not being human should not imply inferiority.

Potteraholic - Apr 13, 2008 8:37 pm (#10 of 24)

Part I

1) Ron Weasley
3) Neville Longbottom

PART II

3) Prof. McGonagall
4) Severus Snape

PART III

5) Gellert Grindelwald (didn’t want to vote in this section at all, but picked GG because he was defeated by DD)

PART IV

1) Dobby
3) Rubeus Hagrid

Edit: I agree with Anna L. Black about the wizards in PART III; I don't think they should even get cards.

Verity Weasley - Apr 13, 2008 9:51 pm (#11 of 24)

Part 1 - they all deserve cards, but I'll go with Neville.

Part 2 - Again, lots of strong contenders, but Severus Snape without a doubt.

Part 3 - I agree with Anna - none of these people deserve a card!

Part 4 - Dobby

Dryleaves - Apr 14, 2008 12:52 am (#12 of 24)

Part I: 1) Ron 2) Hermione Would like to answer Neville as well, but we couldn't choose more than two...

Part II: 4) Severus Snape 6)Remus Lupin

Part III: 1) Bellatrix 5) Grindelwald Perhaps none of the bad guys deserve a card, but you can't just wipe out all bad things from history. Bellatrix might not be very important in the long run, but I'd just love to read a little article about her. And I'm a little curious about Grindelwald as well.

Part IV: I belong to those who can't count Hagrid as non-human (even if being non-human doesn't "imply inferiority..."), so I choose the two house-elves: 1) Dobby 2) Kreacher

Hogwarts Class of 85 - Apr 14, 2008 1:25 am (#13 of 24)

Part I - Ron and Hermione
Part II - McGonagall and Lupin
Part III - Grindelwald
Part IV - Hagrid (although I would include him in part II) and Dobby

journeymom - Apr 14, 2008 6:17 am (#14 of 24)

I. 5) Lee Jordan and 6) Colin Creevy

II. 4) Snape, and it's about time! And 1)Molly Weasley

III. 3 and 5 don't belong. Grindelwald certainly never supported Voldemort, and I don't think Umbridge knowingly did, did she?

My votes are 1) Bella and 2) Fenrir.

IV. 1) Dobby and 2) Kreacher.

PeskyPixie - Apr 14, 2008 10:47 am (#15 of 24)

I. 3) Neville Longbottom and 4) Fred and George Weasley

II. 4) Severus Snape and 5) Alastor Moody (he gets overlooked too often)

III. 5) Gellert Grindelwald and 6) Tom Riddle; because they did great things, terrible, but great ...

IV. 1) Dobby and 3)Rubeus Hagrid (see, I like him even though he's not my first choice as an ally )

journeymom - Apr 14, 2008 12:03 pm (#16 of 24)

OK, I know I'm being nit-picky, but that's what I love about this place; nit-pickiness is encouraged.

PART III: Which adult supporter of Voldemort would you most like to see on a FW/W card?

1) Bellatrix Lestrange

2) Fenrir Greyback

3) Delores Umbridge

4) Lucius Malfoy

5) Gellert Grindelwald

6) Tom Riddle: aka: Lord Voldemort

I believe Umbridge and Grindelwald were not Voldemort supporters. Am I wrong? They were both baddies, though! IMO either these two should be removed from the list or the title should not indicate "supporter of Voldemort" but maybe "adult bad guy".

mona amon - Apr 15, 2008 8:39 pm (#17 of 24)

Part I

1) Ron
2) Hermione

Part II

4) Severus Snape, definitely.

Part III

6) Voldemort, because he's famous already, so the damage has already been done!

Part IV

1) Dobby
2) Kreacher

freshwater - Apr 16, 2008 5:18 pm (#18 of 24)

You make an excellent point, journeymom ....and that's one of the things that I love about this place! I'll try to be more careful in the future, and also to remember that "the world is not divided into good people and Death Eaters."

Mrs Brisbee - Apr 22, 2008 9:03 am (#19 of 24)

Part I

5) Lee Jordan - I think it obvious that Hermione, Ron, and Neville deserve cards (everyone on the list, really), but I don't want Lee Jordan's contribution to be overlooked-- bringing the Wizarding World the truth at the risk of his life.

Part II

3) Minerva McGonagall. They all deserve cards, but I waited a long time to hear one of the Good Guys say "we duel to kill." She meant business.

Part III

6) Tom Riddle, if I have to vote for one. He was his own biggest fan!

Part IV

1) Dobby

(I think Hagrid belongs in part II)

freshwater - Apr 27, 2008 2:50 pm (#20 of 24)

Here are the results for the Chocolate Frog Cards:

Part 1: Hogwarts students: Ron 29%; Hermione 21%; Neville 21%; Fred & George 8%; Lee Jordan 12%; Colin Creevey 4%; write-in vote for the whole D.A. 4%....how are you gonna fit the entire D.A. on a Chocolate Frog Card, Elanor?

Part II: Good-guy adults: Molly 8%; Kingsley 4%; Prof. McGonagall 16%; Severus Snape 42%; Mad-Eye Moody 4%; Remus Lupin 25%.

Part III: Bad-guy adults: Bellatrix 18%; Fenrir Greyback 4.5%; Umbridge -0-% (Nyeh! ); Lucius Malfoy 9%; Gellert Grindelwald 41%; Tom Riddle 23%; write-in vote for "none" 4.5%.

Part IV: non-humans (with apologies to Hagrid): Dobby 63%; Kreacher 16%; Hagrid 21%; Grawp and Griphook both received no votes.

Verity raised an interesting point with her vote of "none" for Part III: Bad-guy adults....should evil wizards be featured on Choc. Frog Cards?

shepherdess - Apr 27, 2008 3:29 pm (#21 of 24)

Wouldn't that depend on the purpose of the cards? If the purpose is to honor achievements, then no. If the purpose is to educate about history, then yes. IMO.

freshwater - Apr 27, 2008 4:05 pm (#22 of 24)

If you wish to use Choc. Frog cards to educate about history I suppose that you would have to include the bad with the good.... but should something like a card in a candy meant for children attempt to educate about bad guys and their fall? Bubble-gum cards in the US have typically featured baseball and football athletes... not Mafia crime bosses.

On the other hand... you would not want to sweep Voldemort under the rug...you'd want the next generation to learn of his evil so that history wouldn't be repeated.

shepherdess - Apr 27, 2008 4:14 pm (#23 of 24)

We tell our children fairy tales that include bad guys to help teach them that bad is bad and good is good. As long as the "bad guy" cards made that point, it could be educational.

And frankly, I'm not so sure all baseball and football athletes should be held up as an example for our children either.

freshwater - Apr 27, 2008 4:38 pm (#24 of 24)

Good point about the athletes, shepherdess! But, at least the sports card is about their success in sports, not their use of steroids or betting on the side. I guess I'm wondering if it is appropriate to 'glorify' --for lack of a better term-- bad guys by posting them on a collectible card along with those who've accomplished great things that have benefitted others?
