PeskyPixie - Dec 6, 2007 8:27 pm (#138 of 1342)

Hi, everyone. Prof. Pixie sent in your next quiz via horned owl who gave it to Archie (nearly ate him, too!) who then ordered me to post it, or else. I am ashamed of the demeaning manner in which the professor addresses you all. However, if I do not post her words verbatim she has threatened to cancel Christmas this year. Therefore, I warn you to proceed with a thickened skin. By the way, I hope questions 4 and 8 apply to all earlier editions of books around the world. I'm pretty sure I've heard JKR address this issue in interviews. If not, then maybe I can - Ouch! Okay, Archie, I'm posting it! Sheesh, you weren't so brave when that owl tried to have you for lunch.

Prof. Pixie's Post:

Good afternoon, dunderheads. I am still, ah, away on business. Owls are scarce here and the one I have entrusted your quiz to is remarkably dim. In fact, he'll fit right in with the lot of you. The extra study time his lack of direction has bought you, combined with the ease of this gift of a quiz, does raise my expectations of your results. Those who fail me will suffer my displeasure. You have been warned. Freshwater and PatPat may be excused from disemboweling flobberworms and cleaning out bedpans to sit the quiz, after which they will return immediately to their detentions.

You may begin.

Hidden Message

1. What is the surname of the 'destroyer of dangerous beasts' for the Ministry of Magic?

6. What is the surname of the character with the following final line: " ... you'll back me up or you'll pay the price,"?

7. State the plural term for objects in which a piece of soul may be stored.

8. What is the surname of the character given two different first names in different books of the series?

9. What is the first name of the 'eye-witness' to Antonin Dolohov's torture of Muggles and non-supporters of the Dark Lord?

10. State the full name of the speaker of the following line: "The inferius is a corpse that has been reanimated by a Dark wizard's spells."

11. What is the surname of the known accomplice in the murder of the McKinnons?

12. Who is a specialist in the Imperius Curse during the first Wizarding War?

13. State the first name of the speaker of the following line: "Think your little jokes'll help you on your deathbed, then?"

14. Whose wand does Lord Voldemort request to defeat Harry Potter, in 'The Seven Potters'?

If you've followed instructions and answered correctly you'll be able to find the 'hidden message'!

PeskyPixie - Dec 18, 2007 11:49 pm (#169 of 1342)

I am docking ten points from all Houses (exception of Slytherin of course) for your lack of interest in your results. I expected no less than ten owls requesting information about the date when marks and solutions to the quiz would be available, however, now that I gaze upon your gormless faces I am astounded at why I expected such eagerness. Ten points from Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Consider it a Christmas present that it isn't twenty.

Now, results were generally abysmal. It is quite obvious that I am attempting to impart knowledge to a troop of trolls. However, due to my kind and understanding nature I am awarding a minimum mark of 'E' to all who sat the quiz as you have exceeded my expectations by completing it. Those who achieved 10 or higher out of a total of 14 marks (which is most certainly not much of an accomplishment) have received 'O's.

You've managed to scrape through this one; I assure you it will not happen again, least of all on your P.Y.G.M.Y.P.U.F.F.S. on Severus Snape. You have been warned.

I must get on with my many responsibilities. My idiotic assistant will post answers and results. PatPat, Columbine Fairy and geauxtigers may now be excused from detention. Freshwater, you may wash my robes (the ones with your slimy fingerprints on them) before you leave. And undiluted Bubotuber pus is the only thing which removes flobberworm slime stains ... dear, dear ...

Victoire, I shall see you on December 25. Good day to you all.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

('idiotic assistant'): That crazy professor. 'Kindness of heart', yeah right. If you must know, the Ministry will be evaluating her in the new year so she's boosting her classes’ averages; Insane tests don't exactly make for an 'O' record. In fact - ouch! All right, Archie, I'm posting them. Keep your tail on!

Hidden Message

1. What is the surname of the 'destroyer of dangerous beasts' for the Ministry of Magic? Macnair

2. What is the full name of the person who maims Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody's nose? Evan Rosier

3. State the full name of the Death Eater Lucius Malfoy pairs with Crabbe in the Department of Mysteries. Rabastan Lestrange

4. What is the surname of the individual who is an ancestor and descendant of the same character due to a typo? Riddle (in CoS)

5. What is the surname of the person defeated by George Weasley and Lee Jordan at the Battle of Hogwarts? Yaxley

6. What is the surname of the character with the following final line: " ... you'll back me up or you'll pay the price,"? Carrow (darling Amycus to Minnie McG)

7. State the plural term for objects in which a piece of soul may be stored. Horcruxes

8. What is the surname of the character given two different first names in different books of the series? Rookwood (Augustus and Algernon)

9. What is the first name of the 'eye-witness' to Antonin Dolohov's torture of Muggles and non-supporters of the Dark Lord? Igor

10. State the full name of the speaker of the following line: "The Inferius is a corpse that has been reanimated by a Dark wizard's spells." Severus Snape (as DADA professor)

11. What is the surname of the known accomplice in the murder of the McKinnons? Travers

12. Who is a specialist in the Imperius Curse during the first Wizarding War? Mulciber (Lily wasn't wrong when she called him 'creepy')

13. State the first name of the speaker of the following line: "Think your little jokes'll help you on your deathbed, then?" Alecto

14. Whose wand does Lord Voldemort request to defeat Harry Potter, in 'The Seven Potters'? Selwyn's

If you've followed instructions and answered correctly you'll be able to find the 'hidden message'! The Death Eaters wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS (as well as a Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and belated Diwali, Eid and all other celebrations which have been missed)! See, the Death Eaters are not such a bad bunch, and the ones which escaped Azkaban have become quite international. Macnair now speaks fluent Swahili, and Mona, watch out, Antonin Dolohov has recently been spotted in India. Keep a sharp eye out for a man with a long, twisted face and a fading skull and snake tattoo on his left forearm.

Totally Me: Congratulations, Anna! Honourable mention to Finn. Well done, all of you! I didn't mean for the quiz to be so darn obscure. I was so set on the idea of 'Merry Christmas from the Death Eaters' that I wasn't thinking of the obscurity level, so sorry about that. Thanks for participating. Anna, you have just won the Elder trivia wand! I look forward to the magic you perform with it!

Anna L. Black - Dec 27, 2007 3:13 am (#190 of 1342)

When I wrote the quiz I didn't think of how I'll score the answers. So now it's a bit complicated, I hope it's not too weird. Anyway:

A Quidditch Quiz

1. What kind of broomsticks did the Slytherin team have in CoS? Nimbus 2001 (1 pt.)

2. And what kind did Fred and George Weasley have then? Cleansweep 5 (1 pt.)

3. Which position did Lockhart claim he used to play? Seeker (1 pt.)

4. What broomstick model did Ron receive after being chosen as a prefect? Cleansweep 11 (1 pt.)

5. Give the names of 4 different broomstick models (ABC-150 and ABC-160 don't count as different ). A Bonus point if you can name more. Here are all the possible answers: Bluebottle, Cleansweep, Comet, Firebolt, Moontrimmer, Nimbus, Oakshaft, Shooting Star, Silver Arrow, Swifstick, Tinderblast, Twigger. (1 pt. for naming 4, and another 0.5 point for every additional broomstick)

6. What was the score in the end of the 1994 Quidditch World Cup? Bulgaria - 160, Ireland - 170 (0.5 pt. if you only knew that Ireland had won; 0.5 point if you only knew that somebody won by a margin of 10; 1 pt. for every correct score - so the maximum is 2 pts.)

7. Name 4 known British Quidditch teams. Appleby Arrows, Ballycastle Bats, Caerphilly Catapults, Chudley Cannons, Falmouth Falcons, Holyhead Harpies, Kenmare Kestrels, Montrose Magpies, Pride of Portree, Puddlemere United, Tutshill Tornados, Wigtown Wanderers, Wimbourne Wasps (1 pt. for naming 4, and another 0.5 point for every additional team)

8. Name the players of the Gryffindor House Team in the end of Harry's fifth year. Angelina Johnson, Ron Weasley, Alicia Spinnet, Katie Bell, Ginny Weasley, Jack Sloper, Andrew Kirke (1 pt. for knowing the first 5 names on my list, another 0.5 point for Sloper and for Kirke (but you had to give an exact name) - so maximum 2 pts.)

9. Who won the Quidditch game which Luna Lovegood commentated? Who lost? Why? Hufflepuff won, Gryffindor lost, because McLaggen hit Harry with a bludger. (0.5 pt. for the winner and for the loser, 1 pt. for the reason - maximum 2 pts.)

10. Harry and Cho chang played one game against each other. What happened in the end of the game? Which team won it? Malfoy and co. tried to act like Dementors, failed miserably, and Gryffindor won. (0.5 pt. for each part of the question)

That's it. It was a lot of fun

Okay here are the Answers:

1. 9th Floor- (I don't think there were any European/American issues with floors here, Let me know if I made a mistake!)

2. "He dreamed he was on show in a zoo with a card reading UNDERAGE WIZARD attached to his cage." - I gave half credit if you got some of it.

3. Numerology and Grammatica

4. Ludo Bagman because he paid them in Leprechaun gold when they won the bet. I think everyone got this one

5. Banned all student organizations, groups, societies etc.

6. He got love-potioned and then poisoned.

7. Yellow, again I think everyone got this, ya’ll were even more specific than I was thinking! LOL

9. Gellert Grindelwald

10. Caterwauling charm

BONUS" "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say they were perfectly normal, thank you very much." and "All was well." I've always wanted to do that for a bonus, ever since I did trivia the first time! But I had to wait for DH of course! LOL The last sentence wasn't as catchy or as long as I always imagined, but it doesn't matter! LOL I almost did the end of the story instead, that has a better ring, but I thought cover to cover was just cooler, even of the sentence wasn't as good!

So everyone did really well and we have a 5 way tie for 1st place! LOL!

So without waiting, you have 24 hours. If you miss the question, oh well, you still did really well! Tie-breaker questions is: What is the title of Chapter 15 of Deathly Hallows?

Spoiler:
Columbine Fairy - Jan 14, 2008 6:41 am (#261 of 1342)

1. Name the two (2) elements required to defeat a boggart (2)
Laughter and the incantation "Ridikkulus"

2. Name three (3) features that distinguish the werewolf from the ordinary wolf (3)
The tuft tail, the pupils of the eyes, the snout, the fact that it only transforms at the full moon, its bite will infect others, it only answers the call of its own kind and will deliberately seek out human targets

3. Name the charm for producing water (1)
Aguamenti

4. Name the spell to repel Muggles from a site/area (1)
Repelio Muggletum

5. What spell would you use to mend a broken nose? (1)
Episkey

6. List three (3) ways in which you might protect yourself against Veritaserum(3)
You could: carry and antidote, transfigure the potion, seal your throat, use Occlumency, drink only from your own hipflask, refuse anything from a known enemy, put a puking pastille in it.

7. List three (3) ingredients of Polyjuice Potion (3)
Lacewing flies, boomslang skin, powdered horn of bicorn, leeches, knotgrass, fluxweed, and a bit of the person you are changing into.

8. Give five (5) examples of spells/incantations you might use to physically disable your opponent (5).
Points will be given for effectiveness and creativity. Examples are: Petrificus totalus, Rictusempra, Tarantallegra, stupefy, Incarcerus, Levicorpus, Locomotor mortis. No points for Expelliarmus, as an opponent without a wand is not technically physically disabled - they could still fight without a wand, Transfigure themselves, run or Apparate away. Minus points for Sectumsempra or any of the Unforgivables. We're here to find a way NOT to resort to those.

9. List three (3) ways you might make yourself invisible (3)
using an invisibility cloak, a Disillusionment charm, a Bedazzling hex, or Transfiguring oneself into something small and unobvious. Hieronymus Graubart, I'm not sure if protecting oneself with a Fidelius charm would work - it may restrict you to staying in the one place, which would make you very ineffective as an Auror. Recommend consulting a more expert source on this one.

10. In your opinion, is the Disarming spell useful against dangerous opponents? Explain. (3) Points given for how well you back up your own opinion, whichever that may be.

Thank you all for your submissions. Your results will follow.

PeskyPixie - Jan 20, 2008 9:50 am (#283 of 1342)

Prof. PeskyPixie: Silence! Books away this instant. You haven't made much use of them in my absence and there is no need to waste class time by continuing this obvious charade.

Well, well, Columbine Fairy, hiding ice cream under the desk? Tsk, tsk, perhaps three weeks of detention will teach you the value of your education? I daresay your parents will thank me.

Now, if I am not mistaken, you will all sit for your P.Y.G.M.Y.P.U.F.F. in the field of Severus Snape this year. I am not deluded enough to believe for an instant that any of you are prepared for it; you'd only drop my class averages to an all-time low and be an embarrassment to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Thus, as a boost to my records and your egos I present:

Music to the Potion's Master's Ears

Although my late mentor was an incredibly brave and just man who sacrificed his life for the rise of Good over Evil, he would not fail to see the humour of the following quotes.

Name the speaker of each quote (full name) and the book the quote may be found in. The dunderheads who do not manage to scrape an E will most certainly suffer my displeasure. You have been warned. Flip over your papers.

1. "He's right, I don't want to share a dormitory with him any more, he's mad."

2. "I'm warning you now, boy - any funny business, anything at all - and you'll be in that cupboard from now until Christmas."

3. "I see that being Dumbledore's favourite has given you a false sense of security, Harry Potter."

4. "... he's a Parselmouth. Everyone knows that's the mark of a dark wizard. Have you ever heard of a decent one who could talk to snakes?"

5. "I'll let you get on with practicing for your next interview in peace."

6. "What is it this time, my fine Potty friend? Hearing voices? Seeing visions?"

7. "I still don't like your tone, boy."

8. "You'd better hurry up, they'll be waiting for the Chosen Captain - the Boy Who Scored - whatever they call you these days."

9. "A Parselmouth, eh? And having funny turns all over the place -"

10. "One falls off his broom, one stays on, you don't need to be a genius to tell which one's the better flier!"

Answer Sheet for 'Music to the Potion's Master's Ears'

Although my late mentor was an incredibly brave and just man who sacrificed his life for the rise of Good over Evil, he would not fail to see the humour of the following quotes.

Name the speaker of each quote (full name) and the book the quote may be found in. The dunderheads who do not manage to scrape an E will most certainly suffer my displeasure. You have been warned. Flip over your papers.

1. "He's right, I don't want to share a dormitory with him any more, he's mad." -Seamus Finnigan, OotP

2. "I'm warning you now, boy - any funny business, anything at all - and you'll be in that cupboard from now until Christmas." -Vernon Dursley, PS/SS

3. "I see that being Dumbledore's favourite has given you a false sense of security, Harry Potter." -Narcissa Malfoy, HBP

4. "... he's a Parselmouth. Everyone knows that's the mark of a dark wizard. Have you ever heard of a decent one who could talk to snakes?" -Ernie Macmillan, CoS

5. "I'll let you get on with practicing for your next interview in peace." -Ronald Bilius Weasley, GoF

6. "What is it this time, my fine Potty friend? Hearing voices? Seeing visions?" -Peeves the poltergeist, OotP

7. "I still don't like your tone, boy." -Marjorie Dursley, PoA

8. "You'd better hurry up, they'll be waiting for the Chosen Captain - the Boy Who Scored - whatever they call you these days." -Draco Malfoy, HBP

9. "A Parselmouth, eh? And having funny turns all over the place -" -Cornelius Oswald Fudge, GoF

10. "One falls off his broom, one stays on, you don't need to be a genius to tell which one's the better flier!" -Amos Diggory, GoF

Well, well, the transfer student achieves the highest mark. Granted, it is not a perfect score as I achieved in my schooldays, but mildly impressive nonetheless.

In general, I confess myself to be highly disappointed. Of course, had I been grading at P.Y.G.M.Y.P.U.F.F. level then the lot of you would be receiving Trolls today. However, I gift-wrap a quiz for you and nearly half of the class still manages to achieve grades lower than E. I applaud you.

These 'scholars' are to stay behind after the Ministry visit, as are Good Evans, PatPat and Freshwater. Do you honestly believe that I make use of my belongings without first performing a non-verbal Mad-Eye Charm? It's about time some order was returned to this class. Further- ***hem, hem*** -ah, Ms. Umbridge, so you've been sent from the Ministry. Fascinating. I believed you to currently reside in a cell in Azkaban. Please, have a seat. Here, use my chair - it's the most comfortable, you won't to leave it. And feel free to help yourself to the 'gummy worms' in my desk drawer!

Totally me (PeskyPixie): Great job, all! Very well done. Special congratulations to Swedish Short-Snout. Can't wait to see your trivia!

Tie between PatPat and PeskyPixie. Since only Orion had the right answer to the final question, the winner will be the one who was closest, which is... PeskyPixie!

**Muffliato!** Oh no, not Professor Pixie again!

PeskyPixie - Feb 6, 2008 9:35 pm (#338 of 1342)

The following is a Sample Quiz, which was found among the papers of the late Professor Severus Snape. It seems that near the end of his life he was trying reconnect with his Muggle roots and had even wished to apply for the Muggle Studies position if he survived the war.

From Muggle Myth To Magical Moniker

Each 'question' describes a character from Muggle mythology who shares a name with a Magical being. Identify the Magical beings in entirety (i.e. first and last names where applicable) or suffer my displeasure.

1. Romulus' twin.

2. Her mommy launched a thousand ships.

3. Daughter of the mountain.

4. Flighty Greek messenger.

5. Many-eyed watchman.

6. Consort of Vasuki, or maybe Ananta?

7. Bride of Vertumnus.

8. Also known as Pythia.

9. Roman Athena.

10. The Hunter's Pooch.

BONUS: Pursued by The Hunter, daughter of Oenopian.

Answers to 'From Muggle Myth To Magical Moniker'

Each 'question' describes a character from Muggle mythology who shares a name with a Magical being. Identify the Magical beings in entirety (i.e. first and last names where applicable) or suffer my displeasure.

1. Romulus' twin. => Remus (Lupin); (Remus, twin of Romulus; legendary founders of Rome)

2. Her mommy launched a thousand ships. => Hermione (Granger); (Hermione, daughter of 'Helen of Troy' and Menelaus)

3. Daughter of the mountain. => Parvati (Patil); (Parvati, daughter of Himavat the lord of the Himalayas; Parvati also literally means 'she of the mountains')

4. Flighty Greek messenger. => Hermes (the owl); (Hermes, trickster of a Greek god!)

5. Many-eyed watchman. => Argus (Filch); (Argus, used as watchman due to his many eyes; incidentally, was killed by Hermes, and Hera set his eyes onto the tail feathers of the peacock)

6. Consort of Vasuki, or maybe Ananta? => Nagini; (Naga is Sanskrit for snake, nagi or nagini refers to a female snake; In Buddhism and Hinduism Nagas are a race of semi-divine snakes with great powers; the world rests on the many heads of a naga named Ananta; the naga king, Vasuki, was used to churn the ocean to create an elixir of immortality ; anywho, the consort of a naga, such as Vasuki or Ananta, would be a nagini)

7. Bride of Vertumnus. => Pomona (Sprout); (Pomona, Roman goddess of fruit that can be picked from trees; married the Etruscan god, Vertumnus)

8. Also known as Pythia. => Sibyll (Trelawney); (Sibyls were prophetesses; the prophetess/priestess of Apollo at Delphi was known as the Pythia)

9. Roman Athena. => Minerva (McGonagall); (Minerva, Etruscan/Roman goddess whose identity has merged to such a degree with the Greek Athena that her original function is now difficult to place; she may indeed have originally been a war goddess and patroness of craftspeople and skilled workers)

10. The Hunter's Pooch. => Sirius (Black); (Sirius, dog of 'The Hunter' Orion; turned into the Dog Star constellation)

BONUS: Pursued by The Hunter, daughter of Oenopian. => Merope (Gaunt); (Merope, daughter of Oenopian, wooed by Orion before his encounter with a certain scorpion - any Scorpios out there? )

Severus Snape, the late creator of this quiz sends you heaps of sneers and cold, murderous stares from beyond the veil; as for the trivia winner, he chooses to pretend he didn't notice your answers.

Freshwater, Prof. Pixie wishes me to notify you that she is not as gone as you think. She will never be gone while there are those who remain fearful of her at Hogwarts. Oh, and you should all be preparing for your P.Y.G.M.Y.P.U.F.F. on Severus Snape, and continuing with your detentions.

Well done, all! I hope that was a fun brain workout.

Here's the tie-breaker question to determine the winner between Elanor and Good Evans. Great work, both of you!

Tie-breaker: Creator of the labyrinth.

Pesky, was it in the answer about Hermes? He was much more than just the Trickster (ok, you didn't have the room for the whole alchemy thread here).

3) Who has been (or is said to have been) Confunded in the series? (1 pt each)

4) In OotP, before the first OWL test, Seamus Finnigan is described reciting the definition of a charm aloud: which one was it? (1 pt)

And here are the results!

Charming Charms

1) In which book is Harry learning about the Cheering Charm in class (1 pt) and who invented that charm (1 pt)?

In PoA, charm invented by Felix Summerbee.

2) Who used an Unbreakable Charm and why (2 pts)?

Hermione in GoF, after she had caught Rita Skeeter in her Animagus beetle form and put her in a jar. She used the charm on the jar.

3) Who has been (or is said to have been) Confunded in the series? (1 pt each)

Here is the list given by the Lexicon: " Snape suggested that Harry, Ron, and Hermione were Confunded by Sirius Black into believing him innocent (PA21). The fake Moody used this charm to fool the Goblet of Fire into accepting Harry's name under a fourth school (GF17). Hermione used a Confundus Charm on McLaggen during Keeper tryouts in her sixth year (HBP11). Snape speculated that a Confundus Charm had been placed on Dawlish, who was known to be susceptible (DH1). Cast by Harry on each of the two wizards outside the main entrance of Gringotts (DH26).

To this list I think we can add Mundungus Fletcher, in the DH, as DD's portrait tells Snape in 'The Prince's Tale': "try Confunding Mundingus Fletcher" (p.688) and the following description of the scene between Snape and Mundungus fits, and the examiner when Ron passed his driving licence. Bathilda Bagshot also mentions Confunded Muggles living near Wizards' communities (DH, p.319).

4) In OotP, before the first OWL test, Seamus Finnigan is described reciting the definition of a charm aloud: which one was it? (1 pt)

Substantive Charm

5) In which book is Hermione teaching Neville a Scouring Charm and why was he needing it? (2 pts)

In GoF, after Neville's detention during which Snape made him disembowel a barrel full of horned toads. The charm helped him to "remove frog guts out from under his fingernails" (p.185)

6) When Harry's class practiced the Silencing Charm, which creatures did they use to practice on? (2 pts)

Bullfrogs and ravens (I gave 0.5 point for "frog" or "toad" and 1 pt for "crow")

7) Which charm is able to disable a Muggle burglar alarm (1 pt)?

Freezing Charm (according to Slughorn in the HBP).

8) Which charm did Lockhart claim he used to defeat the Wagga Wagga werewolf (1 pt)?

The Homorphus Charm

9) Which charm was Wendelin the Weird's favorite one and how many times is she said to have used it "in a real-life situation" (2 pts)?

Flame-Freezing Charm, and 47 times according to Bathilda Bagshot, as quoted in the first chapter of PoA.

10) Where is Professor Flitwick's office (1pt for the complete answer)?

It is on the seventh floor, the "thirteenth window from the right of the West Tower" according to DD in PoA.

Bonus question: When is Professor Flitwick's birthday? October 17

And the marks are:

Our charming winner is thus Swedish Short-Snout! Congratulations!

Now I suggest some well deserved (charmed) ice-creams from PAH's Parfaits for everybody.

2. "Nothing like that. Stupid git. He wouldn't have the brains."

3. "How she got to be a Prefect when she's thicker than a concussed troll..."

5. "Tell me, boy, does anything penetrate that thick skull of yours?"

6. "They're stupid enough to do what they're told even if he won't tell them what he's up to..."

7. "Are - you - mental?"

8. "Don't put it away, idiot boy!"

9. "And she was an idiot. Very nosy, but no brains, none at all."

10. "That's because he's a brainless git"..."But who cares, we got what we needed."

PatPat - Mar 2, 2008 4:29 pm (#457 of 1342)

OK, here is the new quiz. Each question is a quote from one of the seven books. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to complete the quote (I have indicated with blanks how many missing words there are, but not the length of the words) and give the name of the book from which it was taken. Some are easier than others. This quiz will self-destruct in 30 seconds.

1) "Better wizards than you have ___ ___ ___ ___!"

2) "And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that ___ ___ ___."

3) "There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ is one of them."

4) Moaning Myrtle sped them on their way with a hearty guffaw. "Wait till everyone finds out ___ ___ ___ ___!"

5) " 'I'm not putting them on,' said old Archie in indignation. 'I ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ , ___.'"

6) " 'Stuff like that always sounds cooler than it really was,' said Harry. '___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___.'"

7) "Thank you, my dear. Incidentally, that thing you are dreading - it will happen on ___ ___ ___ ___ ___."

8) "But when Harry arrived downstairs... it was to find Hermione sitting at the kitchen table in great agitation, while Mrs. Weasley tried to lessen her resemblance to ___ ___ ___."

9) "The idea of being taught consideration by a man who had just ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ seemed to be causing him intense suffering."

10) "We don't send people to Azkaban just for ___ ___ ___ ___"

OK, everyone! Finally, at last, the results of my quote quiz. For anyone who has forgotten here is the original text with the answers in bold.:

OK, here is the new quiz. Each question is a quote from one of the seven books. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to complete the quote (I have indicated with blanks how many missing words there are, but not the length of the words) and give the name of the book from which it was taken. Some are easier than others. This quiz will self-destruct in 30 seconds.

1) "Better wizards than you have ___ ___ ___ ___!" lost buttocks, you know! OoP

2) "And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that ___ ___ ___ ." flighty, temptress adventure. HBP (I agree with those of you who said this was one of your favorite quotes! DD has the best lines!)

3) "There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ is one of them." knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll PS/SS

4) Moaning Myrtle sped them on their way with a hearty guffaw. "Wait till everyone finds out ___ ___ ___ ___!"you've got a tail! CoS

5) "I'm not putting them on," said old Archie in indignation. "I ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ , ___." "like a healthy breeze 'round my privates, thanks." GoF

6) "Stuff like that always sounds cooler than it really was," said Harry. "___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___." "I've been trying to tell you that for years." DH

7) "Thank you, my dear. Incidentally, that thing you are dreading - it will happen on ___ ___ ___ ___ ___." Friday the sixteenth of October. PoA

8) "But when Harry arrived downstairs... it was to find Hermione sitting at the kitchen table in great agitation, while Mrs. Weasley tried to lessen her resemblance to ___ ___ ___." half a panda. HBP

9) "The idea of being taught consideration by a man who had just ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ seemed to be causing him intense suffering." blasted away half his living room wall GoF

10) "We don't send people to Azkaban just for ___ ___ ___ ___" blowing up their aunts! PoA

Now, for the scoring: Unfortunately, I had to be VERY strict because many of you got pretty close, but didn't have it exactly. SOOOOO, you received 1 point for having the EXACT quote. The one and only exception I made to this was for #5. I gave you the point if you said "around" rather than " 'round". Then you received one point for having the correct book. Thus there was a total possible of 20 points.

Well done, everyone! And congrats to my Slytherin friend, Pesky!

Okay, so since there is some interest in someone posting a temporary, 'stand-in' quiz in the interest of keeping this thread moving while PatPat's computer is experiencing technical difficulties, I've come up with one. Bear in mind, I am not at home and have no books to refer to, so I really hope all the information I got from the Lexicon is accurate!

I know I suggested 5 questions in my previous post, but I thought that might be too easy; some of you have such razor-sharp minds when it comes to HP trivia. I probably would scrape together a Troll if I took this quiz. Anyway, good luck!

Anna L. Black - Mar 27, 2008 1:04 am (#508 of 1342)

Now that you've been tested on your knowledge of Death Eaters, lets see how well you know their opponents. So, please answer this short quiz (marks are given in percent out of 100%):

The Order of the Phoenix quiz

Please note: For the purpose of this quiz, those who went to school with Harry Potter are not considered part of the Order.

1. Name three Order members that were killed in the first war. Who killed each one of them? (18%)

2. Name all of the Order members that were killed in the second war. Choose three of them, and also answer - who killed each one of them? (30%)

3. What is the "Advance Guard"? Name all the Order members who were part of it. (31%)

4. List seven Patronuses of different Order members. (21%)

Anna L. Black - Apr 1, 2008 12:08 pm (#524 of 1342)

I totally forgot about posting the results yesterday. So, here come the results for another stand-in-for-PatPat quiz!

The Order of the Phoenix

1. Name three Order members that were killed in the first war. Who killed each one of them? (18%)
- Marlenne McKinnon - killed by DEs, among them - Travers.
- Dorcas Meadows - killed personally by Voldemort.
- Fabian and Gideon Prewett - killed by a group of DEs, among them - Antonin Dolohov.
- Lily and James Potter - killed personally by Voldemort.

2. Name all of the Order members that were killed in the second war. Choose three of them, and also answer - who killed each one of them? (30%)
- Sirius Black - killed by Bellatrix Lestrange.
- Albus Dumbledore - killed by Severus Snape.
- Remus Lupin - killed by Dolohov, according to interview
- Alastor Moody - killed personally by Voldemort.
- Severus Snape - killed personally by Voldemort/Nagini.
- Nymphadora Tonks - killed by Bellatrix Lestrange, according to interview
- Emmeline Vance

(I'm not sure that the interview information is canon (the Lexicon doesn't have it at that point), so I gave 1% (instead of 3%) for answering Dolohov/Bella.)

3. What is the "Advance Guard"? Name all the Order members who were part of it. (31%)
The Advance Guard was a group of Order members who came to help Harry escape from the Dursleys' house in book 5. Its members were: Dedalus Diggle, Elphias Doge, Hestia Jones, Remus Lupin, Alastor Moody, Sturgis Podmore, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Nymphadora Tonks, Emmeline Vance.

4. List seven Patronuses of different Order members. (21%)
- Albus Dumbledore - Phoenix
- Aberforth Dumbledore - Goat
- Minerva McGonagall - Cat
- Kingsley Shacklebolt - Lynx
- Severus Snape - Doe
- Nymphadora Tonks - Wolf (Werewolf was also accepted as an answer, and "four-legged something" got 2% )
- Arthur Weasley - Weasel.

And now, the points!

(0-45% - T, 46-60% - D, 61-70% - P, 71-80% - A, 81-90% - E, 91-100% - O)

And the winner is PeskyPixie!! "Know your enemy", heh?

PeskyPixie - Apr 3, 2008 7:33 am (#527 of 1342)

Wow, my quiz is being avoided like a cauldron full of undiluted Bubotuber pus!

Perhaps the question is unclear (I was very sleepy when I composed it), so I'll make another attempt.

Harry's First Hogwarts Feast (HFHF for short!)

1. List the dishes on the menu (hence, those which appear on the tables for the diners) at Harry's first Hogwarts feast. (25 pts.)

(I've also taken away the mystery behind the number of points one may achieve. I hope there will be some takers now.

Alrighty, here are the answers and results to my 'Sev' of a quiz!

As this was a 'fill-in' quiz and the winner won't get a chance to do a trivia of their own, I've awarded her (I don't think any guys took my quiz) with 3 bonus points on Prof. Pixie's P.Y.G.M.Y.P.U.F.F. (which is most certainly coming up in the future! )

ANSWERS SHEET: Harry's First Hogwarts Feast (HFHF for short!)

1. List the dishes on the menu (hence, those which appear on the tables for the diners) at Harry's first Hogwarts feast. (25 pts.)

=>roast beef, roast chicken, pork chops, lamb chops, sausages, bacon, steak, boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, chips (i.e. 'fries'), Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, gravy, ketchup, mint humbugs, blocks of ice cream in every flavour imaginable, apple pies, treacle tarts, chocolate Èclairs, jam doughnuts, trifle, strawberries, jelly, rice pudding (1 point per correct answer) ... rather meat-heavy, eh?

interesting note: no mention of the quintessential Magical world drink, pumpkin juice, at the first feast

I'll be back with the next trivia soon.

I tend to select trivia to which I know the answer. However, this is one quiz where I would not have been able to achieve full marks on any of the questions without a copy of OotP opened to the correct chapter in front of me. So, I commend you all for doing better than I ever could at my own quiz! I've awarded half points wherever an answer is close, but not completely accurate.

First DA Meeting

1. Who doesn't vote for Harry to be the head of the D.A.? (1 pt.)

=>nobody; Zacharias Smith puts his hand up 'half-heartedly', but he still does it; yes, it is a 'pesky question'

2. Who nominates Harry as head of the D.A.? (1 pt.)

=>Cho Chang

3. Name three suggested titles for what is eventually the DA, and identify the individual who suggests each name. (6 pts.)

=>i) Anti-Umbridge League by Angelina Johnson, ii) Ministry of Magic are Morons Group by Fred Weasley iii) Defence Association by Cho Chang

4. Name three books the Room of Requirement provides for the D.A.? (3 pts.)

=>any three of the following: A Compendium of Common Curses and their Counter-Actions, The Dark Arts Outsmarted, Self-Defensive Spellwork, Jinxes for the Jinxed

5. Which book (provided by the Room of Requirement) does Hermione first select to read? (1 pt.)

=>Jinxes for the Jinxed

6. Who is Zacharias Smith partnered with as the D.A. begins its first practice? (1 pt.)

=>Anthony Goldstein

7. Which two members of the DA had previously been in the Room of Requirement, and what form had the room taken for each of them respectively? (4 pts.)

=>i) Fred Weasley, broom cupboard ii) George Weasley, broom cupboard

8. What is Ernie MacMillan's defensive flaw which allows opponents to defeat him? (1 pt.)

=>" ... flourishing his wand unnecessarily, giving his partner time to get in under his guard ... "

9. Name two of Cho Chang's incorrect attempts at the Disarming Spell. (2 pts)

=>i) Expelliarmious ii) Expellimellious

BONUS: Whose sleeve catches fire and who is the accidental arsonist? (2 pts.)

=>Cho Chang accidentally sets Marietta Edgecombe's sleeve on fire because she's flustered when Harry watches her

Total: 20

Congrats, Swedish Short-Snout. You're not a descendant of Rowena Ravenclaw, are you? Looking forward to your trivia!

BTW, Anna, Elanor, PatPat and freshwater, Prof. Pixie feels that your identical results are proof that you have cheated off of one another's papers and that had she been the examiner you would all be in detention!

Portraits in the Wizarding World

Portraits in the Wizarding World - Answers

1. What is the name of the Fat Lady's friend? (1 point) Violet

2. Name all of the famous wizards whose pictures appear on Harry's Chocolate Frog cards during the train ride in PS/SS? Which two cards is Ron missing? (1/2 point each) Harry gets Dumbledore, Morgana, Hengist of Woodcroft, Alberic Grunnion, Circe, Paracelsus, Merlin, and the Druidess Cliodna. Ron is missing Agrippa and Ptolemy. Note that this was a two part question, and if someone correctly named a card that was in that scene, but placed it in the wrong group (e.g. correctly naming Agrippa, but saying it was one of the cards Harry got instead of one Ron needed), I only gave them a quarter-point.

3. Whose portrait is attached by a permanent sticking charm? (1 point) Mrs. Black was the answer I was looking for; I'd forgotten about the painting in the PM's office in HBP1, so I counted that as correct too.

4. Which former headmaster or headmistress's portrait also hangs in the Ministry of Magic? Into whose portrait does he/she run in order to get a better view of Mr. Weasley the night of his attack? (2 points) This one is Everard, and the portrait he runs into is that of Elfrida Clagg (some editions have a typo and give the name as Elfrida Cragg; I accepted both answers.)

5. Where, apart from Hogwarts, does Dilys Derwent's portait hang? (1 point) St. Mungos

6. Where did Harry first encounter Sir Cadogan's portrait? (1 point) On his way up to North Tower when he's trying to find Divination class in PoA.

7. Where can one find a painting of a sleeping mermaid? (1 point) The Prefects' Bathroom

8. Where did Filch finally find the Fat Lady after she was attacked by Sirius Black? (1 point) In a map of Argyllshire on the second floor. I would have given half-credit just for knowing it was a map of some kind, but I don't think anybody got that much right without knowing the full answer.

9. Which former headmaster's portrait says "The ministry did not cut deals with petty criminals in my day"? (1 point) Dexter Fortescue

10. Behind whose portrait lies the passage from the Hog's Head into Hogwarts? (1 point) Ariana Dumbledore

11. Who tore off part of the photograph of Harry's parents in Sirius's bedroom? Why? (1 point for character, 1 point for explanation) Snape, because he wanted the part that had Lily, but he didn't want James in the picture.

12. What does the Fat Lady demand to have for her protection when she returns to guard the Gryffindor portrait hole after Sirius Black's second break-in? (1 point) Two security trolls

Bonus: Why can't Phineas Nigellus bring Dumbledore into his portrait when Hermione asks him to in DH? (1 point) Because occupants of portraits can only move to other portraits in the same building or to a portrait of themselves hanging elsewhere. Since this was a bonus, I gave a full point to the people who gave a full explanation of the rules and half-credit to the people who gave a partial explanation.

Congratulations, Anna! The next trivia is yours.

Inspired by the recent Slytherin Quiz by SSS, I've decided to make my quiz about another of Hogwarts's four noble houses:

Hufflepuff Quiz - Answers

1. What is the first mention of Hufflepuff in PS/SS? Who mentions it, and in what context? (2 points) Draco Malfoy in PS/SS Chapter 5, saying he'd leave if he were in Hufflepuff. I gave 1 point for mentioning Malfoy, and a second point for mentioning the "I think I'd leave" bit or something similar (just saying it was about Hogwarts houses wasn't enough).

2. Name three virtues/qualities associated with Hufflepuff House (1/2 point each). The Sorting Hat names the following: just, loyal, patient, true, hard-working (which I consider the same as "unafraid of toil"). Unfortunately, many people listed other qualities that, while not specifically mentioned by the Sorting Hat, are most likely also characteristic of most Hufflepuffs, and I realize now that I should have been clearer about asking for the virtues specifically mentioned by the Sorting Hat. So in the end, I just gave credit for anything that was in the right ballpark. And I'm sorry about giving you such an ambiguous question.

3. According to the Sorting Hat in GoF, from where did Helga Hufflepuff originate? (1 point) Hufflepuff was from "valley broad." Half-credit to anyone who just said it was a valley.

4. Which Hufflepuff was a victim of the Basilisk in CoS? Who else was petrified at the same time? (2 points) Justin Finch-Fletchley was the victim; Nearly-Headless Nick was petrified at the same time.

5. Which member of the Order of the Phoenix, according to JKR in interviews, was a Hufflepuff? (1 point) Nymphadora Tonks

6. Who is the only character in the series who is identified as a direct descendant of Helga Hufflepuff? (As far as I know, there is only one.) (1 point) Hepzibah Smith (one person described the character without giving her name; I gave him/her a half-point.

7. Who became Hufflepuff Seeker after Cedric's death? (1 point) Summersby (no first name given), who played the position in OotP, is the only post-Cedric Hufflepuff Seeker mentioned in the books. A lot of people said Zacharias Smith, but as far as I know, Smith only ever played Chaser.

8. How many points did Hufflepuff have at the end-of-term feast in PS/SS? (1 point) 352 (I had to look this one up myself.) I gave half-credit to anyone who was within 10 points in either direction.

9. Name three Hufflepuff members of the DA. (1/2 point each) Hannah Abbott, Susan Bones, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Ernie Macmillan, Zacharias Smith

10. Name two known Hufflepuffs who were killed during the series or in flashbacks (I know of at least three). (1/2 point each) I counted Cedric Diggory, Nymphadora Tonks, Hepzibah Smith (technically never identified as a Hufflepuff, as several people pointed out, but I accepted it anyway, as there is very strong evidence in canon for it.) I did NOT accept Bertha Jorkins, as her being a Hufflepuff is purely speculation.

Grades
11.5-13: Outstanding
9.5-11: Exceeds Expectations
7-9: Acceptable
4.5-6.5: Poor
2-4: Dreadful
0-1.5: Troll

Congratulations, SSS! The baton goes back to you. Will we get Ravenclaw or Gryffindor next? Or something different entirely?

Answers, at last!

Ravenclaw Trivia

1. How do you get into Ravenclaw's common room? The full answer from the lexicon: The door has neither handle nor keyhole, but a talking bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle. Rather than asking for a conventional password, the knocker will ask a question; if answered correctly, the knocker will compliment the person on the answer and the door will swing open. I gave 1 pt. for knowing you had to answer a question/riddle, and another point for those who mentioned the knocker.

2. What are the house's colours? Blue and Bronze. 1 point.

3. How many points did Ravenclaw get in the end of PS/SS? 426. 1 point for correct answer, 0.5 a point for those who were very close (416-436).

4. What is the inscription on Ravenclaw's diadem? "Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure". 1 point.

5. The rumor has it that Filius Flitwick was a Ö Dueling champion in his youth. 1 point.

6. Whom did Moaning Myrtle haunt after her death, and why? Olive Hornby, to make her pay for teasing her. 2 points.

7. Which Ravenclaw was a victim of the Basilisk in COS, and who else was petrified at the same time? Penelope Clearwater along with Hermione Granger. 2 points.

8. Name three magical creatures Luna Lovegood believes in. Some options: Crumple-Horned Snorkack, Blibbering Humdinger, Nargles, Wrackspurt. 1 point for each creature - you didn't have to spell them exactly right

9. Name a Ravenclaw student that has a sibling in another house. While you're at it, name the sibling and the sibling's house, as well. Padma Patil, Parvati Patil, Gryffindor. 3 points

O - 15-16
E - 13-14
A - 10-12
P - 7-9
D - 4-6
T - 0-3

Looks like we don't need that tie-breaker question, after all. And, more on the positive side - everyone passed the quiz! Ice cream on the house for everybody, please, PAH.

I don't think anyone will be surprised by the topic of our next quiz:

Gryffindor Quiz: Answers

1. How many points did Gryffindor have at the end of PS/SS before Dumbledore added his last minute points? How many did they have after? (1/2 point each) To whom were the final points awarded to give Gryffindor the House Cup? (1 point) 312 points before, 482 points after (half-credit for anyone who was within 5 in either direction; the final points were awarded to Neville.

2. Whom does Griphook claim Godric Gryffindor's sword was stolen from? (1 point) Ragnuk the First (1/2 point for anyone who just identified it as a goblin, 3/4 for Solitaire who said "the Goblin Ragnok" but omitted "the First")

3. Apart from the sword, what other object is identified in canon as a Gryffindor artifact? (1 point) The Sorting Hat

4. Give the full roster (names and positions) of the Gryffindor Quidditch team in Books 1 through 3. Name three more students (with positions) who played on the team in later years (players can be regular or alternate). (1/2 point each; 1/4 point for right name but wrong position) Gryffindor Quidditch team in Books 1-3: Harry Potter (Seeker); Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet, Katie Bell (Chasers); Fred and George Weasley (Beaters), Oliver Wood (Keeper). For the second part of the question, the following are valid answers: Ron Weasley (Keeper); Ginny Weasley (Chaser and Seeker); Demelza Robins (Chaser), Dean Thomas (Chaser), Andrew Kirke (Beater), Jack Sloper (Beater), Jimmy Peakes (Beater), Ritchie Coote (Beater), Cormac McLaggen (Keeper). I did NOT accept Harry or anyone else from the earlier "dream team" for this part of the question, because the question was about NEW players on the team, but since I didn't really make that clear, I gave 1/4 point for such players.

5. What was Harry's very first Gryffindor password? (1 point) Caput Draconis

6. How many times was Nearly-Headless Nick hit in the head with a blunt axe? (1 point) What is Nick's full name (spelling counts)? (1/2 point) 45 times; Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington (1/4 for right name but misspelled)

7. Name four known residents of Godric's Hollow. (1/2 point each) James Potter, Lily (Evans) Potter, Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, Ariana Dumbledore, Aberforth Dumbledore, Kendra Dumbledore (note: Percival Dumbledore is NOT valid because the Dumbledores did not move to GH until after Percival was in Azkaban), Gellert Grindelwald, Bathilda Bagshot, Enid Smeek, Bowman Wright, Ignotus Peverell, Godric Gryffindor

8. Which three Horcruxes were destroyed using Gryffindor's sword? Who destroyed them? (1/2 point each; 1/4 point for right Horcrux but wrong person) Marvolo's Ring (Albus Dumbledore), Slytherin's Locket (Ron Weasley), Nagini (Neville Longbottom)

9. J. K. Rowling honored a real-life girl who had died in childhood by giving her name to a new Gryffindor student. What was the girl's name? (1 point) In which book was the character included? (1/2 point) Natalie MacDonald, GoF

10. Name three forms that the Boggart took during Lupin's first DADA class in PoA. For which students/characters did the Boggart take those forms? (1/2 point each; 1/4 point for right form but wrong character) Professor Snape (Neville Longbottom), a mummy (Parvati Patil), a banshee (Seamus Finnigan), a severed hand (Dean Thomas), a giant spider (Ron), the full moon (Remus Lupin). The boggart also took on three other forms during this scene (a rat, a rattlesnake, and a bloody eyeball) which were not associated with particular students (or the students they were associated with weren't identified). I did NOT count Harry's dementor-boggart, as it didn't appear during that first class.

11. Which one of the Marauders was a Prefect during their fifth year? Which one went on to become Head Boy? (1/2 point each) Remus Lupin was Prefect, James Potter was Head Boy

12. Name six Gryffindors who died at some point in the series (including flashbacks). (1/2 point each) James Potter, Lily (Evans) Potter, Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore, Peter Pettigrew, Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Colin Creevey

Congratulations, PatPat. The next quiz is yours. And congratulations, everybody! People REALLY know their Gryffindors well. Could this be the first quiz EVER where nobody got less than an E? Well done!

PatPat - Jul 17, 2008 4:59 pm (#760 of 1343)

Attention All Students: As we all know, student performance in Geography is declining. This is extremely worrying as the risk of Splinching is 90% greater when Apparating to an unknown or misunderstood destination. Therefore, the Ministry of Magic has announced that, before taking their Apparition test, all students must pass a basic test of Wizarding Geography.

Important Places in Harry Potter

For each question, give the place being described as well as the book from which it came.

1) According to the magazine, The Quibbler, Doris Purkiss believes that Sirius Black is actually Stubby Boardman of the singing group The Hobgoblins. Where is Purkiss from? (You must give the street and the city)

2) Rubeus Hagrid, carrying baby Harry Potter on a flying motorcycle, is flying over this city when the baby falls asleep.

3) Ron Weasley announces to Harry Potter that his favorite Quidditch team hails from this city, though they are ninth in the league.

4) Ron Weasley tells Harry Potter that there is a shop in Hogsmeade that sells Magical instruments. What is it called?

5) Arthur Weasley must take care of exploding toilets in three different cities. Name one.

6) Harry Potter and Hermione Granger camp here, where Harry finds the sword of Gryffindor in a pond and is rescued by Ron Weasley.

7) Harry Potter's uncle, Vernon Dursley, works for this firm.

8) The night Tom Marvolo Riddle kills his father and grandparents, the villagers gather at a local pub to discuss it. What is the name of the pub?

9) Marjorie Dursley, sister of Harry Potter's Uncle Vernon, goes on holiday at a resort and sends a postcard to her brother and his family the same day Harry receives his first Hogwarts letter. Where is she vacationing?

10)Tom Riddle's relatives, the Gaunts, live in a house on a hillside overlooking a village. What is the name of the town?

Good luck, everyone! Note: if you can discern the pattern, it may help, though be careful!

OK, everyone! Here are the answers and the results to the latest quiz! A couple of technical comments. First, I gave 2 points per question. 1 for the correct place and 1 for the correct book. On question #10, I gave 1/2 a point if you said GoF for the book. Although the village was mentioned in GoF, the question specifically asks about the Gaunts, who were not introduced until HBP. So, without further ado, here are the answers and results:

Important Places in Harry Potter

For each question, give the place being described as well as the book from which it came.

1) According to the magazine, The Quibbler, Doris Purkiss believes that Sirius Black is actually Stubby Boardman of the singing group The Hobgoblins. Where is Purkiss from? (You must give the street and the city) 18 Acanthia Way, Little Norton (OoP)

2) Rubeus Hagrid, carrying baby Harry Potter on a flying motorcycle, is flying over this city when the baby falls asleep. Bristol (PS/SS)

3) Ron Weasley announces to Harry Potter that his favorite Quidditch team hails from this city, though they are ninth in the league. Chudley (CoS)

4) Ron Weasley tells Harry Potter that there is a shop in Hogsmeade that sells Magical instruments. What is it called? Dervish and Banges (PoA)

5) Arthur Weasley must take care of exploding toilets in three different cities. Name one. Elephant and Castle, Wimbledon, and Bethnal Green (OoP) I, obviously, accepted all three, but the italicized one is the one that fits the pattern.

6) Harry Potter and Hermione Granger camp here, where Harry finds the sword of Gryffindor in a pond and is rescued by Ron Weasley.Forest of Dean (DH)

7) Harry Potter's uncle, Vernon Dursley, works for this firm. Grunnings (PS/SS) (megfox*, I gave you half a point for "Grundlings" )

8) The night Tom Marvolo Riddle kills his father and grandparents, the villagers gather at a local pub to discuss it. What is the name of the pub? The Hanged Man (GoF) (I gave half a point for "Hanging Man")

9) Marjorie Dursley, sister of Harry Potter's Uncle Vernon, goes on holiday at a resort and sends a postcard to her brother and his family the same day Harry receives his first Hogwarts letter. Where is she vacationing? The Isle of Wight!! (PS/SS) (It was Petunia's fiend, Yvonne, who went to Majorca, not Aunt Marge!)

10)Tom Riddle's relatives, the Gaunts, live in a house on a hillside overlooking a village. What is the name of the town? Little Hangleton (HBP)

Well, well, well. The Slytherin gets a perfect score on the Gryffindor's quiz!! Well done, my friend! Look forward to your next quiz. Good job, everyone!

Oh, and by the way, in case you missed it, the pattern was alphabetical! I left off J and K because there were no good place names that I thought people would actually know!
