Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Well, it's been more than 24 hours since the last guess. You can't be all out of ideas already! I've added my extra two lines to encourage more guesses, so we'll see how long it lasts now!
First, you will find me all around you
Don't take me away whatever you do
Or your world will come crashing down.
Next, look for me when hunger strikes
You'll find me in versions that everyone likes
Mostly, not always, a nice shade of brown.
Last, you'll see me in morning and also at night
you'll see me in shadows away from the light
and in your favourite gown.
Together, I defy description.
Find me soon or suffer a conniption.
Guessed: Air Bread Lace! Dean Thomas; Lavender Brown; Love

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
This is the first time I've found the riddle thread!
Being a Bear of Very Little Brain, the only thing I can come up with for the first part is "horizon," and for the second part, "tea" or "chocolate."
Horizont------?

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Lady A, it's great to see you here on the riddle thread. Thanks for your 'guess' but I'm afraid it's not on the right track. I clearly underestimated the universal appeal of chocolate! You have to remember that there is always a little artistic licence involved with riddle-writing, especially for the sake of a rhyme. In the third verse for instance, I might have been a little bit naughty and used an alternative spelling for one of the words. A homonym - or is it a homophone? I always get those mixed up. Anyway, Choices has been closest so far, especially the last part of her first guess.

Oooh.... Walburga Black perhaps?
Thanks for the hint about the homophone words! I must be really out of practice because I did not consider this possibility.

- Spoiler:
- It is Walburga Black.
I thought this would be guessed quickly, given our recent Five Words story. Hopefully the riddle makes sense now you know the answer, but here is a (short ) explanation.
First, you will find me all around you
Don't take me away whatever you do
Or your world will come crashing down.
I'm assuming most of you are indoors when you check the forum, hence you are surrounded by walls. If you took the walls away, the ceiling would crash down!
Next, look for me when hunger strikes
You'll find me in versions that everyone likes
Mostly, not always, a nice shade of brown.
OK, clearly everyone looks for chocolate when they're feeling peckish, but I was going for 'burger' here. And if you don't like beef burgers (which are brown), you might like chicken or veggie burgers.
Last, you'll see me in morning and also at night
you'll see me in shadows away from the light
and in your favourite gown.
The homophone here was morning/mourning which makes black the obvious answer. You'll also find black at night and in shadows, and every woman has a 'little black dress'.
Wall + Burger + Black = Walburga Black
Together, I defy description.
Find me soon or suffer a conniption.
A little extra clue: conniption = a fit of hysterical excitement or anger.
Congratulations again Julia. Take it away!

New Riddle
I'm very sorry about the delay, but I have had some incredibly busy days.
Verity, this was a great riddle! Here is the new one (it will be easy):
Have you seen my forbidding disguise?
If you have, it should be no surprise
If you find me inviting and grand
Get your wand - you'll need it in your hand.
Enjoy!

Hi Julia! It's great to see you back. And with a new riddle.
I'll start things off with the first wrong guess, since I really have no idea yet.
Is it The Great Hall?

Hi, Verity!
The first guess for my first riddle on this Forum!
It is a very good guess, too, though not the answer yet.
Keep guessing, please.
Have you seen my forbidding disguise?
If you have, it should be no surprise
If you find me inviting and grand
Get your wand - you'll need it in your hand.
Guessed: The Great Hall.

LOL, this was a short-lived riddle!

If you have, it should be no surprise

Get your wand - you'll need it in your hand.
Lady Arabella, you are absolutely right, the answer is ...

- Spoiler:
- Hogwarts - the castle itself.
You may not need an explanation, but here it is anyway:
Have you seen my forbidding disguise?
Muggles only see some ruins and a "Do not enter" sign in place of the castle.
If you have, it should be no surprise
If you see that, you must be a Muggle and will have no idea about the real Hogwarts.
If you find me inviting and grand
If you receive the letter and you can see the castle in all its splendour
Get your wand - you'll need it in your hand.
You must be a witch or a wizard and you can and must buy a wand at Ollivander's.
Congratulations, Lady Arabella! I look forward to your riddle!

In case you were wondering why I edited your posts...
Hello, folks! Since I'm in a HP Riddles Archive frame of mind these days, I thought I'd get our two recently completed riddles — the first 2 played in this forum! — all set-up to be included in the indexed list that I'm working on. In the effort to have only one link to each completed riddle, instead of the 2 links I had to include in the WX Archives (1 for the original riddle post, and the other for the riddle answer/explanation post), I've edited in the following into Verity and Julia's posts:
1) the set #/game # in the topic title
2) the riddle without the attached answer/explanation
3) the riddle with the attached answer/explanation in a spoiler box so that future HP riddlers can't see the answer when they first access your riddle (unless they peek , of course).
4) a link to the HP Riddles Archive
For anyone who wants to include this info. into their riddle answer/explanation on their own in the future, here's the code:
Thanks, and congrats on the riddle, LA!

Lady Arabella, all the games here have been HP-related so far, but within the HP world, it can be anything. Thanks to PAH, we have a HP Riddles Archive, where you can find lots of riddles for fun or inspiration.
LOL, that's the prize the winner gets!

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Okay then, Julia, I stand corrected, 3, not 2 riddles. But with all the formatting, reposting, updating, etc., I've been doing lately, I'm bound to get 1 thing wrong every now and again. Thanks for the head's up... the necessary corrections have been made.
And thanks for the plug about the HP Riddles Archive. 250 done, 215 left to go, and 23 Potty HQ Riddles, too. And then... drumroll please..... the Five Words Archive!

New Riddle (#4)
OK - I think I have one.
You smile and think you have it!
Your heart's held securely within,
Beware of the lair of the Guardian there,
As deeper and deeper you swoop and spin,
To claim or hoard that which is stored.
And never acquire, by stealth or by hire,
Ill-gotten gains, because for your pains,
Justice will wield its Mighty Sword.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Is that really your first riddle, LA? It's great, and has a lovely rhythm and rhyming scheme. However, this is not a poetry competition, so here's my guess:
Is it Gringotts?
Is it Gringotts?

Yes, a great riddle, Lady Arabella! My first (probably wrong) guess is the Thief's Downfall at Gringotts.

- Spoiler:
- Gringotts!
It doesn't appear to be needed, but I'll post the "solution" anyway.
You smile ("grin") and think you have ("got") it,
Your heart's held securely within ("Where your heart is, there shall be your treasure also" and Gringotts is very safe.)
Beware of the lair of the Guardian there (the dragon)
As deeper and deeper you swoop and spin,
To claim or hoard that which is stored, (riding the cart to your vault)
And never acquire, by stealth or by hire,
Ill-gotten gains, because for your pains,
Justice will wield its Mighty Sword. (The last three lines are a reference to the thieves' warning on the entrance door.)
edited to add: later today I will try to put in the coding for the "Spoiler" field.

Oh dear, now I'll have to think of another riddle!
Lady Arabella, I hadn't really thought through the clues that much, but the whole poem just made me think of Gringotts, but now that I see your explanation, I love that first line.
I'll be back when I've thought of something.

I'll send you into space.
I'm fair or foul with fiery heart
When I show you my false face.
