Excellent guess, Shepherdess, but that's not it.

You come to me when you seek relief, but within me one finds only grief.  With whispered words your command you speak, and suddenly my adit you breach.  Here is the unknown, long and deep, here something frightful you're bound to meet.  What am I?

Congratulations to Verity on solving Lady Arabella's riddle!

As for the new riddle... Choices, is it the Pensieve?

No, not the Pensieve.

The first line puts me in mind of Firewhiskey!      Hmmm . . .

Nice riddle, Choices!

Is it Moaning Myrtle's bathroom that led to the Chamber of Secrets?

It's a great riddle Choices.

My guess was going to be Moaning Myrtle's bathroom too, but I see Lady A has got there first. If that is the answer, it is indeed a very clever riddle.

It's not the The Marauder's Map....... but Lady A hit it on the head, followed by Verity. It is Moaning Myrtle's bathroom and the Chamber of Secrets.

You come to me when you seek relief, but within me one finds only grief. With whispered words your command you speak, and suddenly my adit you breach. Here is the unknown, long and deep, here something frightful you're bound to meet. What am I?

Guesses: The Whomping Willow, The Pensieve, The Marauder's Map

When you need to relieve yourself, you go to the bathroom, but you find Moaning Myrtle who is expressing her grief by moaning. You stand by the sink and use Parseltongue to open the entrance that leads down under the castle to the lair of the Basilisk.

Well done Lady A, and a second well done to Verity.  cheers

Thanks Choices! Great riddle!

I had to look up the word "adit" and kept coming up with "Alien Documentation, Idenitification, and Telecommunications System."      But the "seeking relief" made me think of Dumbledore and his room full of chamber pots, and I worked my way from there.

If anyone has a riddle, feel free to post!  I will be on vacation this week and my brain may be too lazy to come up with something.

My Scrabble dictionary defines "adit" as an entrance.
