That's true about the parents having reason to be overprotective. Did we establish when this was taking place? Is this the summer after Molly and Arthur have both graduated from Hogwarts? In which case they're probably around 18. What would their plans have been for after school? Did Molly have a career before she had children? What would she have been planning to do for a job? It's easy to assume Arthur went straight into the Ministry, but what would Molly have planned to do if she didn't elope?

I don't think we have established the exact time. Anyway, the Lexicon estimates that both Molly and Arthur were born c. 1950, but Arthur was born in February while Molly in October. It means they may not have been in the same year at Hogwarts. At least if they were born in the same calendar year, Arthur would have got the owl 11 years later in the summer, but not so Molly, whose 11th birthday was only after that school year started. Then again, it is circa 1950, so we don't really know. They also estimate that Molly eloped with Arthur c. 1968. That's probably where we are now.
Arthur may have gone straight to the Ministry, or we may assume that at this point he is trying to get a job there (if he is just out of Hogwarts), which would add a bit to the general uncertainty.
We may assume that Molly had one more year at Hogwarts, or she may have finished as well. It's up to us to decide what career she was dreaming about, but her parents clearly thought it could wait if they were planning to send her abroad with Muriel. By the way, I could imagine Molly looking after young children. Or maybe animals. Or perhaps organising ... something. But perhaps she just wanted to dedicate her life to Arthur and their own future children.

I think it would be irresponsible to elope before finishing school so let's assume Molly and Arthur have both finished. I know the Wizarding World tends to be a little old-fashioned but I also don't like to think of Molly as planning to do nothing after leaving school. It's true that her parents are obviously not considering any possible career implications if they want to send her away, but I hope Molly had something in mind. It might not even come up in this story, it's just something I was wondering about.

I agree. (Except that I don't think that raising children, looking after family, household, garden and animals and giving constant, reliable background support to a husband should count as "doing nothing".)

No, no, of course not! I was a stay-at-home mum for a long time when my kids were young, so I definitely don't think that counts as doing nothing. I just meant that Molly (as far as we know) hadn't planned to get married right out of school, so I can't imagine her thinking to herself that as she probably was going to get married and have children some day, she didn't need to think about doing anything else. Then again, that kind of thinking might have been common amongst the pure-blood wizard families for all I know. I'm sorry, I'm not expressing myself very clearly.

Yes, maybe she enjoys that feeling of home and safety that is created in a warm kitchen. After she's sent her owl, she might decide to make some bread to unwind. All that kneading is good for getting out frustration - unless wizards have self-kneading dough!
