Hands down B. A cad with Style.

F, Umbridge, because she is probably the most infuriating baddie.

F Umbridge. I **dislike** her so much words cannot express how mad she makes me! There are times when reading OoP that I can hardly contain my anger for her. Thats basically the whole book, and she makes me just as mad with each read! She makes me grind my teeth and clench my fists!

B Lucius Malfoy, but I do admit movie contamination helped the choice (not only movie Lucius has style but he is also one of the rare actors really interested in HP!)!

I'd go with F, Umbridge also. Same reason as Tori too.

I'll go with B.

B

He may be a loser of a husband, but what little there is written about him is fascinating.

Definitely B! Lucius is just so good at being bad! (I also admit to movie contamination, but book Lucius is pretty awesome too). Umbridge, Greyback, and Voldemort are such pure evil that I can't stand them.

As individual persons, it's a toss up between Umbridge and Lucius Malfoy.

Malfoy has an unrepentant superior attitude. He will not even consider you human -wizard- if your lineage is not of highest pedigree, regardless of the value of the individual

Umbridge because she presents herself as being caring and working for the good.

As story characters, I love them both.

B - I love to hate Lucius!

Fenrir just disgusts me to no end, but I get no enjoyment from him.

Same with Umbridge.

Definitely Lucius - in the "real bad guy" catagory.

Definitely Severus - in the "maybe a bad guy" catagory. :-)

F - Umbridge....I can't stand her. She is a horrible rotten character and I think it's hilarious that I get so irritated at a fictional character, but I can't help myself!

S gets my vote. I am starting a write-in campaign for Severus Snape (thus it is an S). But if I can't...

H for Draco, such a child of misfortune is he.

I think I'm going to go with "F" - Umbridge. And I think that's because I can read her better than the others. If we went by the movie characters, then it would be Lucius for sure, but for book characters Umbridge. She is such a selfish/hateful thing...

Later, Deb

D, Bellatrix Lestrange (although Lucius was a second choice). She is in the "real bad girl" category, for me

Finn BV - Dec 16, 2006 3:29 pm (#16 of 37)

Definitely F – because I love McGonagall and Dumbledore (and sometimes Harry) getting their subtle revenges with her in OoP… possibly my favorite two passages in the entire series are the sacking of Trelawney and "Career Advice."

G. Barty Crouch Jr.: Had he not been demented. He might have been a real contender for Harry. Barty was pretty successful with his tasks up until the end when he got a little trigger happy.

Chemyst - Dec 19, 2006 7:02 am (#18 of 37)

D - Bellatrix Lestrange

Voldemort, Fenrir & Umbridge are just too far gone to even "love" hating them. All three seem to get their sole pleasure from the thrall of power in hurting others. Peter & Draco seem trapped as bad guys; neither having the grit to choose to embrace the villainous life for themselves; but just letting it happen to them. Barty was a minor character. Lucius never really 'popped' in the books, although if this question were about the movies I'd vote for him. (He has that "bad elf" look à la LotR in the movies.)

Belatrix seems to find more "happiness" in her choices than any of the others; and I think her contentment with her free choice makes her the winner here.

E - Pettigrew. I'm fascinated with the traitorous mind.

juliebug - Dec 20, 2006 1:13 pm (#20 of 37)

Call it movie contamination, but I just love Lucius Malfoy. I really hope he gets a lot of page time in book 7. I'd really love to see some kind of family gathering with the Malfoys, Blacks and Lestranges.

TomProffitt - Dec 20, 2006 1:36 pm (#21 of 37)

Movie Lucius is quite the ticket.

Tom Riddle just doesn't have enough page time to rate "Love to Hate," he just exists.

I thought Barty Crouch, Jr was an excellent character, but he didn't have the "love to hate" part. It was something else altogether. Great Character.

I don't "Love to Hate" Umbridge. I just hate her. I dislike her more than any other character in the series.

Love to hate. That's Severus Snape. Gotta vote for Severus.

Madam Pince - Dec 20, 2006 4:12 pm (#22 of 37)

I'm with Tom -- key words are "love to hate." I just "plain old hate" Umbridge and Bellatrix.

Since I do not hate Severus, I will freely admit to movie contamination and pick Luscious Lucius Malfoy.

Actually, I'd probably pick him anyway. Sneering is always such a good quality in an evil villain.

S.E. Jones - Dec 21, 2006 1:35 am (#23 of 37)

B Lucius, most definitely, and it's not just movie contamination. He just makes such as wonderful and slippery (isn't that how Voldemort described him?) villian. He's also one of the few other "baddies" that seems to be in Snape's league.

Lucius Malfoy. I hope he gets out of Azkaban in DH, just so we can see him being so nasty again.

Dolores, Fenrir or Bellatrix? How can I choose?

Dolores was so thoroughly frustrating and infuriating and HORRIBLE to Harry.

Bellatrix (Not just Crouch Jr!) tortured the Longbottoms into insanity and cruelly taunted Neville about it.

Fenrir boasts about murdering children.

It's a tie between Dolores and Fenrir. Fenrir is scary, though apparently even he is cowed by Snape.

Dolores isn't scary, but I think she's just unbearably horrible. And I agree, she hasn't met enough justice yet.

Dolores has my vote.

==================

Edited to add, Draco just isn't a bad guy to me. He's a right git but not on par with Sir Psycho Riddle.

I don't hate Snape (well, except when Snape pushed Harry's perfect potion off the table). I'm still waiting to see how he turns out.

Lucious (heh!) just doesn't bother me.

F-- When I was in school, I butted heads with those kinds of teachers frequently a la Harry (I even got sent to be punished with notes describing what I did)

And about Draco...I think he is a great example of nature vs. nurture. His beliefs, ideas, and personality are almost always influenced by his father. I believe that in his heart of hearts he is a decent guy and wants to be on the right path, but pressures from without coupled with his inner conflict is what's holding him back. He is so much like his father, but the fact that he couldn't kill Dumbledore ("You are not a killer, Draco.") sets him apart from his father who, I believe, has killed and would (will?) kill again.

Absolutely F! Umbridge is soo awful! I hate her soooo much it's almost unbearable, yet she makes OoP what it is. Wouldn't be the same without her!

I'll have to say, C - Fenrir because I am so disgusted with him, there is no part of me that wonders what made him that way. My response to his death would be in the vein of, "Dead? Fenrir? Gee. What a shame."

_____________________________________

Elaine2005 - Dec 26, 2006 2:41 pm (#33 of 37)

So many good villains to choose from! I think I will also go with Lucius Malfoy. Draco is infuriating but just doesn't rise to the level of badness necessary to be a true villian. Maybe if he had killed Dumbledore, but he couldn't do it. I feel more sadness for Draco than hate.

As for Umbridge--I can't even "love to hate" her. She is too nasty.

Pamzter - Dec 26, 2006 6:05 pm (#34 of 37)

Lucius - he has a certain flair about him (even in the books). The others are just standard evil.

I don't consider Draco evil - yet. He's just caught up in the flow of things right now. Once he starts making choices based on his bad character and not because of his circumstances/outside pressures, then I'll consider him evil.

B - Lucius just ooozes the bad guy - he is not in Azkaban at the moment but definitely in panto entering stage left!
