-- Which is your favorite shop or business in Diagon Alley? (5/31/08-6/15/08)

Edited by Kip Carter Jun 22, 2008 2:00 am

I'm posting this poll early because my laptop is in for repairs and my local library is closed on Sunday.

Please choose your 2 favorite shops of businesses in Diagon Alley. Also, feel free to write in any I have forgotten....no laptop means no access to the lexicon. (So please excuse spelling errors, too...am relying on my memory: always a scary event)

This poll was suggested by Azi, back in April of this year. Thanks, Azi!

1) Eyelopp's Owl Emporium...all those lovely owls

2) Magical Menagerie....all kinds of magical pets

3) Gringott's.....goblins and cart rides that make Hagrid queasy

4) Ollivander's....magical wands since....forever

5) Flourish and Blott's....the store of Hermione's dreams

6) The Leaky Cauldron...food, drink, an overnight stay, and interesting clientel....

7) Weasley's Wizard Wheezes....no explanation necessary

BTW...there will be a seperate poll for businesses in Hogsmeade.

Hmm, I'll go with 3 Gringotts (for the architecture) and 4 Ollivanders (for the atmosphere).

Thank you for posting the poll.

Flourish and Blotts because I love oldie worldie bookshops, and The Leaky Cauldron again for its oldie worldie feel and 'interesting clientel'.

5) Flourish and Blott's....

6) The Leaky Cauldron...

Go out for dinner and then go hang at the book store. We do that already!

It's almost impossible to answer this question if you can only choose two shops out of seven. If we are supposed to choose which shops would be the most fun to visit, then I'd take 5 Flourish and Blott's, and 7 Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, but then I wouldn't own a wand, and I wouldn't get a drink either. So I suppose I own a wand already, and I'd go to the Leaky Cauldron after shopping anyway.

And I'd like to suggest Borgin and Burkes as a possible write-in-vote, because it is full of extremely old antiquities and powerful objects, and I'd very much like to visit it even though I'm completely harmless.

I'll vote for:

Flourish and Blott's....the store not only of Hermione's dreams, but also of mine.

Ollivander's. I like this kind of shops. It reminds me of a shop I know that only sells doorknobs and hinges: shelf after shelf with boxes with different kinds of doorknobs and hinges, nothing else, but the variety is enormous. And this shop has also existed ...forever...?

5) Flourish and Blott's. I just can't resist a bookstore.

4) Ollivander's. I'd love to find out which wand would choose me.

I vote for -5- Flourish and Blott's and write-in Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour if the weather is nice enough to eat street-cafe style. If it's cold or wet, I'll choose Gringotts.

Since freshwater was having laptop problems, I checked the Lex and came up with the following list; however there are only TWO that will probably make a difference in the voting: Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour and Quality Quidditch Supply. But who knows? Maybe you'll really like one of these. Oddly, I saw no mention of a non-sporting broom store. What if I just wanted to clean my floors?

Unnamed second-hand robe shop
a junk shop (where Percy bought Prefects Who Gained Power)
Gambol & Japes (Fred & George got supplies there in CS4)
unnamed stationers (sells Scribbulus Everchanging Inks) and is next door to:
Quality Quidditch Supply
a magical instruments store
an apothecary (for PS movie this was named Slug & Jiggers ...was "Slug" foreshadowing?)
a cauldron shop
Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Shop
Headquarters of Daily Prophet
Madame Pimpernelle’s Beautifying Potions (275 Diagon Alley, from an ad)
TerrorTours (59 Diagon Alley, also from an ad)
WhizzHard Books - 129B Diagon Alley published Quidditch Through the Ages
Obscurus Books - 18a Diagon Alley published Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
and assorted street peddlers.
Other possible buildings on Diagon Alley are Twilfit and Tatting's (Narcissa's alternate robe shop, location implied)
the Society for the Tolerance of Vampires headquarters and the Museum of Quidditch, both 'somewhere' in London.

Flourish and Blott's since I always love a good bookstore and

The Leaky Cauldron as it would be fun to watch everyone who comes and goes, and the atmosphere sounds like fun.

5) Flourish and Blott's....the store of Hermione's dreams

6) The Leaky Cauldron...food, drink, an overnight stay, and interesting clientele....

Honorable Mention: I'd pick Florean Fortescue's Ice-Cream Parlour. But how would it look if I voted for 2 eating establishments?!

Now, I could really do with four picks on this one! I'll have to go with 4 and 5--Ollivander's and Flourish and Blott's. I love books and dusty old antique stores, and these two certainly will fill the bill here. It was a hard choice, though, what with magical pets and ice cream as competition!

Verity Weasley - Jun 1, 2008 5:44 pm (#13 of 29)

Well, I would have to choose Flourish and Blotts as my absolute first choice. If I could only choose one, that would be it. But since I can choose two, I'll go with Weasleys Wizard Wheezes.

Dryleaves, a store that sells only doorknobs and hinges? Sounds like Arthur Weasley's dream day out!

Solitaire - Jun 1, 2008 8:02 pm (#14 of 29)

I love old handles, pulls, doorknobs, and hinges ... because I would love to be able to use vintage hardware on all my doors and cupboards. Alas, it would be too expensive, because I would probably have to change out my doors. They are too plain for the glass knobs and other goodies. Oh, well ... maybe some day.

Chemyst, thanks for doing the research and posting the other info! With my limited screen time lately I'm afraid that I relied entirely on my memory! I DID remember Florian Fortescue's Ice Cream shop --it's on my list-- but must not have typed it in. I CAN'T believe I forgot Quality Quidditch Supplies!

I agree, Anna. When I added WWW at the end I thought, "Well, that's the one everyone will choose." Just goes to show that I can't read minds....

My votes: I like to visit a store with magical instuments --musical, I'm assuming-- and Flourish and Blott's. Out family motto is "Let no bookstore go unexplored!"

5) Flourish and Blotts because I love old bookstores.

6) The Leaky Cauldron. Harry really seemed to be having fun when he stayed there for a week in POA.

Finn BV - Jun 2, 2008 1:16 pm (#19 of 29)

My votes are 6, The Leaky Cauldron, because it's just such a cool place, the bridge between worlds, the interesting people, and a place to stay. (Plus, it's also a really good web site. )

And 7, which I'm surprised not as many people are picking, as well! It's Gred and Feorge, what can you say? Such a fun store, plus you'd run into lots of Weasleys.

Flourish and Blotts would be up there if it weren't for the unappealing employees, the fight between Arthur and Lucius, and also the fact that Gilderoy frequents the store (at least his picture does).

How did I miss WWW? I don't even remember reading that! I'm going to change mine from The Leaky Cauldron and Quality Quidditch Supplies to WWW and Quality Quidditch Supplies.

5) Flourish and Blott's (admitted bookworm since the age of four)...

... and because I couldn't choose between Eyelop's Owl Emporium and Magical Menagerie, I'll go with 6) The Leaky Cauldron (for a whole week, of course ... and granted that I already have a wand as Orion does. )

4 and 7 for me please. The idea of a fusty old shop where the merchandise chooses the shopper is just fab, and how could I not pick the pub?

5) Flourish and Blott's. Books!

Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. Because it looks the closest thing to a street cafe. I can sit outside with an ice cream and my new book and watch all the interesting magical folk troop by.

Ooops! Sorry, Amelie (what a pretty name!), but the poll has already been closed and tallied. I try to do that after noon on Sunday, Central Standard Time in the U.S. Please check out the two new polls that were posted earlier today. They may still be located in the Threads Not Yet Approved or Placed section further down the list, if a host has not yet had the time to move them to this section.
