The Department of Education in the Ministry of Magic continues its efforts to refine the Hogwarts curriculum. Please indicate which 3 or 4 spells you would most like to learn from the list of 14 spells below.

E

1) Engorgio: causes the target to swell in size

2) Episkey: heals/repairs damage that has been inflicted on a person

3) Erecto: straightens out the target object and causes it to set itself up; used on the tent by Hermione

4) Evanesco: causes the object to vanish, not just become invisible, but go away all together

5) Expecto Patronum: conjures a Patronus which can drive away dementors

6) Expelliarmus: causes an opponent’s weapon to fly out of his/her hand, they are disarmed

7) Extension Charm, Undetectable: extends the internal dimensions of an object, without affecting the external dimensions; Hermione used it on her beaded bag....do you think it will work on my jeans?

F

8 )Feather-Light: makes the target weight practically nothing

9) Fidelius Charm: an immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret within a single, living soul.

10) Finite Incantatum: cancels the effects of a spell that has been cast

11) Fixing Charm: magically attaches one object to another…like Super Glue for muggles!

G

12) Geminio: duplicates the target object….Hermione used it on the locket so that Umbridge would not realize they had taken the real one....could come in handy after removing socks from the dryer!

13) Glisseo: converts the target object into a smooth slide….used by Hermione to help the trio escape DE’s by sliding down a former stairway

14) Gubraithian Fire: enchants an object to burn forever without being consumed....could this lower our energy bills?

Host megfox* originally moved this new thread on Jul 27, 2008 6:07 pm; however I had to accomplish some minor edits and my name now shows as the Host who did the work. I felt that I should add this message to show that Meg was the one who actually did the major work. – Kip

E 7) Extension charm, otherwise known as the Tardis Effect.

F 11) Fixing charm. Very practical. Finite Incantatum has never made sense to me. When do you use it? You'd think everyone in the wizarding world would be using it whenever they did magic or whatnot, but it seems to have been used inconsistently.

G 12) Geminio

10) Finite Incantatum: cancels the effects of a spell that has been cast

I was really tempted by the Extension Charm!

E 4) Evanesco: causes the object to vanish, not just become invisible, but go away all together. (Like somebody else stated so nicely, for my principal.)

F 8 ) Feather-Light: makes the target weight practically nothing.

G 12) Geminio: duplicates the target object….Hermione used it on the locket so that Umbridge would not realize they had taken the real one....could come in handy after removing socks from the dryer! (And for money... )

(BTW, *snicker snicker* about E 1 and E 3 *end of adolescent fit*)

(BTW, *snicker snicker* about E 1 and E 3 *end of adolescent fit*)—Orion

Yes....I very nearly posted a warning against the use of E1 on body parts...but thought the hosts might take exception...naughty, naughty, Orion....are you sure your name wasn't Peeves in a previous life?

This was a difficult group from which to choose, because most of these spells really would make my daily life much simpler. Since we can choose up to four, I'll go with the following:

2) Episkey: heals/repairs damage that has been inflicted on a person (This just makes sense for anyone!)

4) Evanesco: causes the object to vanish, not just become invisible, but go away all together (I would use this on my classroom floor every day. I hate the little pieces of spiral notebook paper that seem to multiply like Dementors breeding.)

7) Extension Charm, Undetectable: extends the internal dimensions of an object, without affecting the external dimensions; Hermione used it on her beaded bag....do you think it will work on my jeans? (I would use this on all of my storage cupboards, both at home and school. I NEVER have enough storage space! It would be fabulous on suitcases, too, for long trips. Just think, Elanor ... you could cram your computer and a 2-month wardrobe into your backpack! No luggage to check! )

8 )Feather-Light: makes the target weight practically nothing (I would certainly use this on my purse, which weighs a ton! It would also free me of the need to have help moving things around the house!)

I'm liking the things in the "E" category for some reason...

E. 2) Episkey: heals/repairs damage that has been inflicted on a person Who couldn't use this?

E. 6) Expelliarmus: causes an opponent’s weapon to fly out of his/her hand, they are disarmed Harry's bread-and-butter... has taught us that it ought to be used by everyone...

E. 7) Extension Charm, Undetectable: extends the internal dimensions of an object, without affecting the external dimensions; Hermione used it on her beaded bag....do you think it will work on my jeans? I'd choose this just based on freshwater's sample utilization alone!

Expecto Patronum, Expelliarmus, Finite Incantatum, and Glisseo for sheer fun!

2) Episkey: heals/repairs damage that has been inflicted on a person

7) Extension Charm, Undetectable: extends the internal dimensions of an object, without affecting the external dimensions

8 )Feather-Light: makes the target weight practically nothing

Those were the easy choices. I have 2 small children and I pack around enough equipment to shame a mule. The last choice isn't as easy. I'd like Geminio because it would solve the problem of one last juice box or granola bar, or Evanesco, because goodbye dirty diapers! For the sake of the environment, I will go with:

4) Evanesco: causes the object to vanish, not just become invisible, but go away all together

2) Episkey: heals/repairs damage that has been inflicted on a person

This is extremely useful when there are kids in the family.

5) Expecto Patronum: conjures a Patronus which can drive away dementors

I'd love to see the shape of my patronus. This is perhaps my favourite spell.

6) Expelliarmus: causes an opponent’s weapon to fly out of his/her hand, they are disarmed

Oh, I would not leave this one out!

7) Extension Charm, Undetectable: extends the internal dimensions of an object, without affecting the external dimensions; Hermione used it on her beaded bag....do you think it will work on my jeans?

Oh, yes and on my apartment, wardrobes, cupboards, bags...

2) Episkey. Because I'm a wimp, and hate to see people suffer (like husbands) who accidently hit their fingers with hammers.

7) Extension Charm, Undetectable. More storage room!

10) Finite Incantatum. You never know....

12) Geminio. The duplicating sock thing sold me.

Extension Charm, because … can you imagine going through airport security with Hermione's beaded bag?

Geminio, because some days I want to have my cake and eat it too.

Gubraithian Fire, because encountering a giant necessitates having a peace offering—and besides, it is really cool.

Mrs Brisbee - Aug 10, 2008 4:07 pm (#22 of 25)

I wonder if Gubraithian Fire gives off heat. If it does, that could certainly solve the problem of how to afford to heat my house this winter.

PeskyPixie - Aug 10, 2008 8:43 pm (#23 of 25)

And it doesn't consume more than one log, which is awesome for the environment.

5) Expecto Patronum: conjures a Patronus which can drive away dementors....for when you have "one of those days"

7) Extension Charm, Undetectable: extends the internal dimensions of an object, without affecting the external dimensions....definately need this with my jeans!

8 )Feather-Light: makes the target weight practically nothing....would come in handy with all the stuff I drag home from school on a daily basis

14) Gubraithian Fire: enchants an object to burn forever without being consumed....sure would simplify our campfire starting process
