(The following intro. is a repeat of a message I posted not too far back when I found out I guessed a riddle correctly.)
Columbine Fairy,
WHAT???
I can't believe it! I was just guessing because I was trying to get us another hint! I didn’t think I was right. Honest!
Thanks for the congrats, folks! Okay, so I’ve come up with a riddle, a rhyme, this time. That rhymed! It’s short and hopefully will get solved quickly. I’m meant to work hard on my students’ mid-year progress reports this week!
Orion, you wrote this comment about my earlier riddle about Malfoy Manor: Curiouser and curiouser... Potteraholic, is it 12 GP, my favourite place and object of desire? (post #484) . This made me laugh because it reminded me of the first riddle I wrote on the HPLF.
For those who are thinking, 'Get to the riddle already!'… here it is:
When in doubt,
throw me out.
When in need,
use with speed.
Happy guessing!
Edited to add: CF's guess. Sorry, it's not Owl Post. ***wondering if I wrote this too quickly and how many different ways this riddle can be interpreted*** Better get started thinking up some clues!

Elanor, you are absolutely right! It is indeed Polyjuice Potion. And your reasoning about the 2nd hint is absolutely correct. In fact, I've used your wording in my explanation below.
I included the third hint at the end of the riddle, even though it's not needed, just because I worked hard on making all the lines have meaning, rhyme, and have the same number of syllables to make an ‘a b a b’ pattern. (Rhyming's not my thing, you see.)
When in doubt,
Alluding to when Hermione first imbibed the potion with cat hair in it instead of Millicent Bulstrode's;
throw me out.
a bad batch of the potion is not worth taking!
When in need, See note next to Hint 2 below.
use with speed.
Use the wrong bit,
Again, referring to when Hermione transformed into a cat when she imbibed the potion with cat hair in it and had to stay in the hospital while she transformed back again to her regular self!
You’ll go astray
Make the right fit, See note above.
Or else you’ll pay!
Hint 1: Verse 1 - verify your primary source material
Check that the bit of the person you’re transforming into (the 'primary source material') is the real thing (human hair instead of cat fur)
Hint 2: Verse 2 - 3,600=60=1, different numbers, but the same difference
3,600 seconds, aka 60 minutes, aka 1 hour is how long you transform into someone else when taking a few drops of the potion
Elanor, I'm officially passing the baton to you! :-)

Strengthening Charms to you TBE! And bonne nuit!
You have it Orion, it was Sirius' motorbike indeed!
From darkness to light
"Darkness" was referring to Sirius Black and to the very dark times at the beginning of the series and "light" to the 7th book and also to Hagrid and/or DD both in PS/SS and the DH.
- that is, as light as can be – Hagrid...
In the dead of the night
The motorbike is used both times at night and it comes from now "dead" Sirius.
My roar is legendary
The roar is both that of the engine and of the "dragon fire" installed by Arthur on it. Dragons breathing fire are legendary indeed and I'd bet my first broomstick that Hagrid and Harry's escape(s) has(ve) also become legendary in the Wizarding World.
Formidable, yet tamed
The "dragon fire" is very dangerous to use but the motorbike is "tamed" as it crashes.
By the king's touch, in the end
I should have written "kings" in fact as it can refer either to Arthur, who has installed the dragon fire "trick" on the motorbike, or to Harry (the symbolic "king") who punched the dragon-fire button in the end that made that motorbike crash.
The next riddle is all yours Orion!

Congratulations, PeskyPixie, you have it! Good old Aragog doesn't need her venom any more, and she surely doesn't mind Slughorn to take it and Harry to exploit his good mood, but she surely doesn't need Harry's shocked expression. My next hint would have been: "I am, after all, a magnificent exemplar of my species!"
So Pesky, you know what's expected of you: A completely unsolvable, obscure, twisted Dobby riddle.

Mona, thanks for the kind birthday greetings. I'll pass them on to my mom.
I came up with a riddle while in Hokey mode so I doubt it will be the 'completely unsolvable, obscure, twisted Dobby riddle' you're expecting.
Without further ado:
Born In Darkness,
Died In Darkness
Truly, Big And Small
Trust And Friendship
Betrayal, Death
I Can Show You All
Enjoy!

Orion: Gary 'Bambi' Oldman? Do explain!
Columbine Fairy: It's a kids' song where one more thing is added in each verse until you end up with, "A feather on the wing of the bird in the egg in the nest on the twig on the branch on the tree on the trunk on the root in the hole in the ground ..." and the chorus is, "and the green grass grew all around and around and the green grass grew all around". I wrote 'Snape in the Cloak in the Shack in PoA' to this tune and the chorus just followed!
YAY, we have a winner! Congratulations, Swedish Short-Snout!!!!! The answer to the riddle is indeed the tunnel between the Whomping Willow and the Shrieking Shack.
Birth In Darkness, =>The tunnel begins with a hole at the base of the Whomping Willow. That's a pretty dark place.
Death In Darkness =>The tunnel ends in the shuttered and boarded up Shrieking Shack which is also quite dark. Besides, any hole in a ground is bound to be dark.
Truly, Big And Small =>This refers to how the tunnel seems to change in size due to JKR's writing. In PoA Harry and Hermione crouch through it and in DH grown-up HRH are cramped as they move through it. Yet, when the entire gang (HRH, Sirius, Remus, et al) moves through it Snape (a fully grown adult) is 'floated' through the tunnel with his head bumping and scraping the ceiling. Okay. Either Snape is Flitwick's long-lost son or the tunnel just grew in size. I can't remember whether Prongs also makes use of the tunnel; he shouldn't be able to. Of course, it can also refer to the tunnel's great length and short height.
Friendship, Trust, =>Friendship: Sirius and Remus find one another again in the Shrieking Shack, two sets of friends (the Marauders and HRH) make use of the tunnel; Trust: Lupin and Harry instinctively trust Sirius; on a sadder note the trust between Lily and Severus shows cracks following events in the tunnel (other interpretations also welcome)
Betrayal, Death, =>Betrayal: Pettigrew's treachery is discovered by his friends; Death: R.I.P. Severus Snape (other interpretations also welcome)
I Can Show You All =>Not only do important events (on the themes of 'friendship, trust, betrayal, death') occur within the tunnel, it also leads to the Shrieking Shack where many significant events take place.
Hint 1. Apparently I overestimated her. She is not as flawless as she seems. =>This refers to JKR not being consistent with the dimensions of the tunnel.
Hint 2. 2(1/2 + 1/2) = ? (it refers to an old riddle) =>Two halves make a (w)hole. hee hee hee Get it? And since the tunnel has two holes ...
Hint 3. In essence, nothingness. =>A tunnel is an empty space. It's something which is defined by its 'nothingness'.
Hint 4. Friendship survives, Trust divides, Betrayal hurts, Death occurs - then again, it may be interpreted differently! =>Sirius and Remus' friendship survives, Lily and Sev's trust divides, Wormtail/Scabbers' betrayal hurts, Snape's tragic death occurs; (of course, other interpretations are also possible and welcome)
Hint 5. 'Tis true by nature I'm most extreme. On one hand I punish, on the other I scream. =>The entrance to the tunnel is marked by the Whomping Willow ('punish'), the exit is in the Shrieking Shack ('scream').
Hint 6. "Shrouded in secrecy, rarely known, carelessly used," I sadly moan. =>The tunnel guards Lupin's secret. The only students who come to know of it are the Marauders, HRH and Snape. The Marauders are quite careless in their use of it during Lupin's transformations.
Hint 7. I am a thing (that much you can see). Events and people will bring you to me. =>The tunnel is most definitely a thing, though certain characters and events, both past and present, help identify it.
I pass the riddle goblet on to you, SSS! Welcome to the Hat-Trick club!

Finally, we have a winner! Congratulations PeskyPixie, the answer is Harry's birthday cake in DH.
Maybe there is more in me
than what you can see. - This is a reference to Hermione's comment "there must be a message from Dumbledore hidden in the icing".
I was meant for them to destroy
in a moment of joy. - It will be eaten at Harry's birthday dinner.
The gold will be crushed and melt away. - The cake looks like a Golden Snitch, and it's about to be eaten.
Tomorrow is the silver's day. - This could refer to two things: either Fleur (silver-blonde hair) who's getting married tomorrow, or Voldemort (Slytherin-silver) who will take over the Ministry tomorrow.
The lion came and delayed my end,
drove away the wolf and his friend. - "The lion" is Scrimgeour, "the wolf and his friend" are Lupin and Tonks. The dinner was delayed because Scrimgeour arrived.
This day was busy, but tomorrow'll be a mess
suspicions and fear mixed with great happiness. - It was a busy day. The mess is at the wedding when the Ministry falls, the suspicions - Harry's suspicions about Dumbledore, fear because "they are coming", happiness at the wedding.
Hints: The first two lines are extremely far-fetched and deliberately misleading. - Do I need to explain?
Oh, and that "sweet revenge" note... only one of the words is important. - "Sweet". It's a cake.
How did Alice get to Wonderland? - Through a rabbit hole = burrow. I was trying to tell you that the answer was at the Burrow.

Okay, I hope everyone is in agreement with Orion, because here's the next riddle. I've put in the effort to make it more solvable than my others. It's the first limerick I've ever written, so be nice!

'The Wicked Will Soon Pay The Price.'
Heck, Though It Be Scary,
It's Just Temporary.
So Go On And Revel In Vice!

And we have a winner, folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations, megfox*, the solution to this riddle is indeed Olive Hornby!
They Say That It's Nice To Be Nice:
'The Wicked Will Soon Pay The Price.' => This is not the most informative verse as I was trying to stay true to limerick style, however, the first two lines indicate that we are looking for someone who is guilty of some sort of wrongdoing.
Heck, Though It Be Scary, => After death, Myrtle makes sure she frightens the living daylights out of Olive.
It's Just Temporary. =>The law is on Olive's side and she manages to get a restraining order against Moaning Myrtle.
So Go On And Revel In Vice! => Please see explanation for lines 1 and 2.
Greece And A Rhino Have Wed! => Greece = 'Olive' (Olives are symbolic of Greece, Athens in particular), Rhino = 'Horn' (Rhinoceros means 'horn-nose'; I started the 'horn-nose' discussion to bring importance to the rhino's horn - everyone was focused on its nose!)
I Didn't Want Anyone Dead. => Nasty snot though Olive Hornby is, I doubt she wants Myrtle dead.
My Own Petty Crime => The only misdeed we know Olive to be guilty of is bullying.
Is Discussed All The Time,
Especially On The Snape Thread. => Bullying is endlessly discussed on the Snape thread. Makes for quite animated posts, I'd say!
Identical Victim And Foe. => Olive's victim (Myrtle) and foe (Moaning Myrtle) are the same person in different forms.
A Nut And His Servant, Much Woe. => The greatest nut in the series is Tommy/Voldy himself. He, along with his 'fanged servant' 'Basil', create the turmoil at Hogwarts which results in the death of Olive's 'victim' and the creation of her 'foe'.
My 'Crime' Was For Fun. => She teases Myrtle about her glasses for the sheer fun of it.
I Suffered, Then Won. => After the haunting of a lifetime she uses the law to stick Moaning Myrtle back in her cubicle at Hogwarts.
But The Wedding Was Ruined, You Know?! => Moaning Myrtle puts in a guest appearance at Olive's brother's wedding.
Name The Speaker Of These Verses => Why, it's Olive Hornby!
Hint 1. Multi-eyed creatures and 'hares', oh my! => 'Four-eyed' Myrtle, 'hare' was a play on 'heir' (of Slytherin).
Hint 2. I eventually saw through my foe ... never saw through my victim though. => Myrtle was a solid living human being while Moaning Myrtle is a transparent/translucent ghost.
Hint 3. Kalamata => Olives, anyone?
For the next hint I was going to advise you to ask the Grey Lady for help!
Well done, megfox*. The riddle goblet is passed on to you!

Okay, so I am torn about this riddle. It will either be solved in an hour, or will be a pesky one (pun intended).
This may be the sound you make when you are very confused;
A delicious noise is next;
Followed by the sound of a golf ball being struck.
Then, the final connection between Sirius and Albus;
And what you will say when you get this.
Who or what am I?

Not Umbridge, not Irma Pince, and not Harry's sons.
DINGDINGDINGDINGDING!!! Verity has it! It is the Whomping Willow.
This may be the sound you make when you are very confused;
I often go "Wha...?" when my students ask me questions.
A delicious noise is next;
As in, "Mmmmmm, doooo-nuuuuuuts."
Followed by the sound of a golf ball being struck.
PING! Also a brand of golf equipment.
Then, the final connection between Sirius and Albus;
Their wills were the last thing they had in common in life.
And what you will say when you get this.
"Oh, now I get it!"
Who or what am I?
Guesses: Hermes, Ermping Deathoh, Hermione, Erumpent, Erumpent's horn, Umbridge, Irma Pince, Harry's sons
These were all very good guesses! Most had some parts right (actually, when Pesky guessed "Ermping Deathoh" I so thought she was going to get it right away), but you needed all the parts.
Take it away, Verity!

I can't believe I finally got a riddle right!!! Please be gentle as this is my first time posting a riddle and I very much fear it won't live up to expectations. I just have to say that all of you riddle posters have my deepest respect. Anyway, here it is. I'm sure it won't take long to guess. Oh, BTW I am in Australia so I'll most likely be updating when everyone else is in bed!
When indolence strikes
or tedium is in the air
When the doldrums threaten
I'll be there
If evasion is your aim
Use a kaleidoscope of care
But of alarming alliteration
You better beware
Once bitten, twice shy
Who or what am I?

Not Arthur Weasley, Anna. But Mona Amon has it! It is indeed the Skiving Snackboxes. (I knew it wouldn't last long!).
When indolence strikes
or tedium is in the air
When the doldrums threaten
I'll be there
These first four lines are all variations on the theme of boredom. The Skiving Snackboxes are there to save you from 'unprofitable boredom' according to the Weasley twins.
If evasion is your aim - evasion or avoidance of boring lessons
Use a kaleidoscope of care - kaleidoscope refers to the colour coding involved
But of alarming alliteration - this was the giveaway line - Fred & George really went in for alliteration with their snackbox products - puking pastilles, fainting fancies etc.
You better beware - they could have unpleasant effects so care is needed
Once bitten, twice shy - another big giveaway - you have to bite the chews (at least twice) and you might be reluctant to do so again!
Who or what am I?
Well done Mona. I look forward to your riddle.

Sorry Anna, it's not the Room of Requirement, but Megfox has it, the answer is Harry's eyes! LOL, at least I can say it wasn't solved at the first guess!
Reminds me of
A toad?
It's a bit of a stretch to say Harry's eyes remind Ginny of a toad, but she does call them 'green as a fresh pickled toad' in the Valentine she sends him in COS.
Asphodel?
Asphodel is a type of lily. And no doubt Harry's eyes reminded several people of Lily.
These windows hidden by windows
Eyes are often referred to as windows to the soul, and Harry's glasses are also 'windows'.
Glimpsed at last!
This line refers to Snape's last moments spent looking into Harry's eyes.
Looking forward to another riddle from you, Megfox!

Since Pesky's riddle, I can't seem to get limericks out of my head. So, the new riddle is indeed, a limerick. I think that it will be easy, but, well, anyway, here goes...
It's complicated, you see,
To be as useful as me;
But time after time,
I'll save your behind,
No matter what the dilemma might be!
I start in an inauspicious way,
In an effort to keep evil at bay;
I might not be good,
But you know if I could,
I will always help to save the day!

Ah-ha! Orion has it! It is indeed... POLYJUICE POTION!!
It's complicated, you see,
Hermione calls the potion the most complicated that she has seen
To be as useful as me;
But it is very useful, because...
But time after time,
I'll save your behind,
No matter what the dilemma might be!
We have sometimes complained that it was used for too many plot-points! heir of Slytherin reconnaissance mission, Mad-Eye Moody, Draco making Crabbe and Goyle pretend to be girls, the Seven Potters, the Trio breaking into the Ministry... Am I forgetting any?
I start in an inauspicious way,
The first time we see it brewed (when it "starts"), it is done covertly, illegally, in a girl's bathroom, plus it is during foreboding time at Hogwarts
In an effort to keep evil at bay;
The trio was trying to discover the true identity of the Heir of Slytherin in order to stop him or her.
I might not be good,
Crabbe and Goyle taste awful!
But you know if I could,
I will always help to save the day!
See comment above about the plot point!
Who or what am I?
Awesome job, Orion! Take it away!

Hooray! SSS has it! It is indeed Borgin and Burkes, and it’s an alliteration, like Elanor and Pesky said. (You know the old riddle by heart??? *gasp* I can’t decide what I should find more unbelievable: That you know the thing by heart or you took the trouble to look it up via the Search button. Thanks for the nice compliment!)
The solution:
I'm now in one, but once one was in me.
I’m in a riddle now, but once a Riddle was in me. (Tom’s first job.)
I have my hand in evil, but evil once had a hand in me.
I sold the Vanishing Cabinet and the Opal Necklace, but Draco once bought his Hand of Glory here, too.
I lie in eternal dark, but there is eternal dark in me.
I am situated in Knockturn Alley (‘Nocturnally’ - one of Rowling’s ‘Geddit?’-names), and I sell Dark Arts stuff.
Hint One: - That’s why ‘Riddle update, riddle update’ was always the first line. That’s what the smiley is looking at.
Hint Two: You may not believe it, but Hint One is a real hint and I mean it.
Hint Three: What does Hint One really do? Follow him in the direction of his gaze and you'll find the solution. Not the whole solution, but one line and then you have it!
Hint Four: What do I have in common with Bathilda Bagshot, Severus Snape and Pansy Parkinson? An alliteration, of course.

It was a great riddle, Orion.
And here's the new one. It's not that good, but it's the best I could come up with.
Once a beauty and full of pride,
now empty and marked by murder.
Nobody cares for me any more.

Verity, it is indeed the Riddle House!
Once a beauty and full of pride - the house was beautiful, the Riddles were proud and snobbish
now empty and marked by murder. - the murders of the Riddles, as well as the murder of Frank Bryce
Nobody cares for me any more. - Not after the death of Frank Bryce.

I can't believe I solved another riddle! And Mona Amon, I guess great minds think alike.
OK, here's a new riddle. I don't think it will last long, but I like the way it sounds.
My story is quite gory
but I can't take all the credit
If you ask, I shall not bask,
so you might as well forget it
I'm partial to a drink and my appetite is hearty
but you will never find me in the kitchen at a party
Who or what am I?

Congratulations Swedish Short-Snout. It is indeed Sanguini. Well done.
My story is quite gory
the story in question being 'Blood Brothers: My Life Amongst the Vampires'
but I can't take all the credit
the book was actually written by Eldred Worple, who also offered to write Harry's story for him
If you ask, I shall not bask
so you might as well forget it
bask is of course a synonym for sunbathe, and Vampires are known to shun the sun
I'm partial to a drink and my appetite is hearty
A bit of a double meaning here. First of all vampires drink blood, and blood is pumped around the body by the heart.
but you will never find me in the kitchen at a party.
Of course not, that's where they keep the garlic! Also a nod to the fact that we meet Sanguini at a party, which takes place in Slughorn's room.
Who or what am I?
Well done SSS. I look forward to your riddle.

Okay, here's a new riddle. I couldn't even make it rhyme properly, but anyway.
Though I may seem cold as ice,
I am actually very nice.
I didn't let him pay the price.
If the answer's hard to find,
a different angle might be worth a try.
Now tell me, who or what am I?

If the answer's hard to find,
a different angle might be worth a try. - diagonally

GOOD LUCK!

Like scratchings on a chalkboard,

Who or what am I?
(I'm hoping I get at least one wrong guess before it's solved.)

Mona Amon, congratulations. It is indeed the witch in Knockturn Alley. Well done!
Out of the fire - Harry travels by Floo Powder for the first time and emerges out of the fire
Into the dark - Harry lands in Knockturn Alley by mistake.
Think scratches on a chalkboard - uhhhh, the sound of fingernails down a chalkboard. **shudders** The witch holds a tray of what Harry thinks are human fingernails.
I can help, if you're lost. - The witch asks Harry, "Not lost are you, my dear?" Then Hagrid shows up to save the day.
Hint: Of all of these, Harry is the warmest. Harry is a part of the riddle.
Hint: I don't even have a name. The witch is never named or seen again that we know of.
Hint: Think about a first for Harry. The first time Harry travels by Floo Powder.
Hint: I'm in an early book. The witch is from the first part of COS.
Again, well done Mona. :-)

LOL, Choices, you've got it! And I was hoping it wouldn't be guessed in the very next post!
An article and a camel
without endless rye
The article is 'an'
A camel is a 'dromedary'
Endless rye is 'rye' without the 'e', which is 'ry'
So put them together-
An + (dromedary - ry) = Andromeda!
Looking forward to another riddle from you, Choices!

Verity, you clever girl! Congratulations, it is Hannah Abbott.
was the first of a long line you know,
(Hannah Abbott was the first person sorted in Harry's year - book 1)
But no monastery for me.
(An abbot heads a monastery)
I am not a colorful Persian,
But in Arabia I am happiness itself.
(Hannah, Hanah, Hanna or Hana has many different translations in different languages. For example, it means "Colorful" in Persian, "Happiness" in Arabic.)
Can you find the answer and tell me who or what I am?
Hint: If you speak Persian or Arabic it will help.

I am blushing furiously here, but Pesky I must admit that I do feel a certain affinity with Ravenclaw. I'm getting better at working out and solving some of the riddles but I need more practice at writing them! Anyway, here it is:
Well known to a vegetable
Acquainted with a flower
You won't believe your ears
When you hear about my power.
I am at the root of great danger
With the power to do good
I'll rectify your remedy
If you treat me like you should.

OK, now I'm blushing furiously, but for a totally different reason! Potteraholic, your wrong guess is completely right - it is indeed mandrake root. How embarrassing for it to be solved on the very first guess! I definitely need more practice at riddle writing!! Anyway, here's the explanation (if it's not totally obvious).
Well known to a vegetable
The vegetable in question being sprouts, as it was Professor Sprout who introduced us to the mandrake root.
Acquainted with a flower
Poppy Pomfrey, the matron, who administered the mandrake restorative draught and would have been familiar with its use in healing generally.
You won't believe your ears
When you hear about my power
These two lines feature ears and hearing, which refers to the power of the mandrake to kill by the sound of its cry.
I am at the root of great danger
Root was the giveaway here (I knew I shouldn't have put it in!)
With the power to do good
Despite being dangerous, the mandrake has powerful healing properties.
I'll rectify your remedy
Mandrake is an essential ingredient in many antidotes
If you treat me like you should
But they require careful handling while they are growing to ensure they reach maturity and full strength.
Congratulations Potteraholic. I look forward to your riddle.

Okay, since two of the past riddles were in limerick form (thanks PeskyPixie and megfox*) I thought I'd try writing mine in a form of verse, too. Instead of limerick, I chose haiku, probably because my class is writing some for our current poetry study (I read some of their drafts earlier and now can only think in 3 line verses with a 5, 7, 5 syllable pattern).
So... without further ado, here's the new riddle:
I am capable
of extraordinary moves,
which surprises one.
Smooth? Certainly not!
When time is of the essence,
That does not matter.
I will help you land
safely on your own two feet.
Just pay all your dues.
Who or what am I?
Okay, waiting to see what people make of this riddle.

My, what a flurry of guessing took place after I went to sleep! One of the guesses is correct, but I would like to include my 2 hints first, since I had them ready and rather like them! They are additional haiku verses, 4 and 5, then 6. So... please humor me for a moment! (The riddle's explanation is near the bottom of this post.)
I am capable
of extraordinary moves,
which surprises one.
Smooth? Certainly not!
When time is of the essence,
That does not matter.
I will help you land
safely on your own two feet.
Just pay all your dues.
One particular
Defense Against the Dark Arts
professor and I,
share a connection,
of sorts. We bring to mind a
dark, yet vivid hue.
Spins, turns, starts, and stops,
I'm likely to make them all.
Take it or leave it.
Hint 1: Part of me is silent in the beginning.
Hint 2: The 4th and 5th verses, added to the original 3.
Hint 3: The 6th verse, added to the original 3.
Who or what am I?
Now for the answer... good guesses painting Sheila, PeskyPixie, and Verity Weasley, but not the right ones. Phoenixfeather and SSS, 'old (hold) tight, please, the answer was indeed the Knight Bus! At this point, I'm not sure an explanation is needed, but I'll provide one, just in case (and for the sake of the Riddle Archives).
Explanation:
1. Verse 1 refers to the way the Knight bus moves, which surprised Harry (the 'one' in the verse).
2. Verse 2 again refers to the Knight Bus' bumpy ride, and also how Harry needed a way to get away quickly in PoA after blowing up Aunt Marge.
3. Verse 3 refers to the Knight Bus being a way for the stranded witch or wizard to get to a place as long as they paid their dues, in Harry's case, 11 sickles. (I didn't know how to get in the part about holding out your wand hand, though, and hoped the 'paying your dues' part would be enough to narrow the choices down to the Knight Bus.)
4. Verses 4 and 5 refer to the color of the Knight Bus (violently purple) and Prof. Lockhart's favorite color being lilac (or lavender?) They are both 'connected' because they're in the same color family.
5. Verse 6 refers, again, to the way the Knight Bus moves.
6. Hint #1 - Part of me is silent in the beginning. -> the 'K' in Knight is silent, as in not pronounced.
So congratulations, Phoenixfeather and SSS, but since Phoenixfeather got her guess in first, the riddle baton gets passed to her. Here! Catch!

And we have a winner! Yes, Swedish Short-Snout, the answer to the riddle is Swedish Short-Snout! I'm so glad you got it - I thought it might be appropriate to do a riddle in your honor, as you guessed PAH's riddle too!
Storm and Sky, - actually refers to colors - gray and blue, as the SSS is bluish-gray. I was going to hint at that.
Fireflies, - yes, John, you were absolutely right - it does refer to flying fire. I saw your post earlier, and knew better than to answer as it would give away the riddle!
Though not prevalent, - we don't hear much about SSSs, except for the Fantastic Beasts Book, and the Triwizard Tournament.
Number One am I. - and, yes, you guessed it SSS - it was the first dragon in the first task.
If the riddle went on, I was also going to drop a 'hotheaded' hint referring to Cedric with his head on fire.
Now, I pass the riddle wand to Swedish Short-Snout! Congratulations!

Verity, you've got it! It is indeed Verity, the shop assistant at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
To find me
you need to see the truth among the tricks
Verity means truth, she works in a joke shop.
In a dark, concealed place you saw me
In the inner room where they keep the Defence Against the Dark Arts stuff, it's described as darker than the rest of the shop.
I was the light on the other side of the veil
"Light" because she's blonde. The veil is the curtain between the inner room and the rest of the shop.
If you look for me, you'll find me
where you can find a dream
Patented Daydream Charms.
I was asked
I asked
A customer asked Verity about joke cauldrons, and she asked Fred and George.
And now, I ask you: Who or what am I?
Hint: It's not only fun, you know. Weasleys Wizard Wheezes doesn't only sell joke stuff, but Defence Against the Dark Arts stuff too.
So, congratulations, Verity!

Thanks SSS. That was a very clever riddle, but I'm not sure I can keep this pattern going (of riddles that also match the names of forumers!). For my last riddle, I suffered the ignominy of having it solved on the very first guess, so I have tried to be a little more obscure this time. The problem is I am more of a literal than a lateral thinker. Maybe someone could make a pity guess first:) Anyway, here it is:
Two worlds collide of air and earth
Fire in the eye of the storm
Twin dangers and noble birth
Heritage ended, one re-born
Who or what am I?

Congratulations PatPat, you've got it! It is indeed Buckbeak the hippogriff, also known as Witherwings.
Here's the explanation.
Two worlds collide of air and earth
A hippogriff is half horse, a creature of the earth, and half eagle, a creature of the air.
Fire in the eye of the storm
Buckbeak is described as being a stormy grey, and he has a bright orange eye, hence fire in the eye of the storm referred to his orange eye amidst the stormy grey of his coat.
Twin dangers and noble birth
The twin dangers here are the sharp beak and sharp talons - both deadly weapons. Hippogriffs are also renowned for being extremely proud, which is what 'noble birth' was alluding to.
Heritage ended, one re-born
This line was referring to the fact that Buckbeak ceased to exist. He became Witherwings.
Who or what am I?
Hint: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet PAH correctly identified this line as coming from Romeo and Juliet, but that wouldn't really have helped. This was just another clue to the change of name.
Hint: Call me this or call me that, Just don't ever call me fat! Again, the first part here is hinting at the change of name, while the second part refers to the fact that hippogriffs are easily insulted. In Malfoy's case it was calling Buckbeak an 'ugly brute' that earned him his visit to the hospital wing, but I'm sure Buckbeak would be just as offended to be called fat!
You didn't need my third hint, which was going to be:
Loyal fighter, fierce friend. Twice imprisoned, once condemned.
Those last two hints were both lines I originally came up with when trying to write the riddle but I decided they'd make it much too obvious if I used them straightaway. I really like the sound of that last one though, so I thought I'd include it here.
Congratulations PatPat. Looking forward to your next riddle. (If you're stuck for ideas, Harry's left foot would make a great subject for a riddle! LOL)

I don't know about everybody else but I am suffering from a severe case of Riddle Withdrawal Syndrome. It has been about a week since PatPat solved the last riddle and it seems as if her computer problems are a bit more serious than she first thought. Since it was my riddle that PatPat solved, I thought it might be OK if I posted another one, just to keep everyone occupied until PatPat gets back. I hope nobody has any objections, and if you have, feel free to ignore it.
This is not an official riddle - it is just a bit of fun. And I don't think it is very hard either, but it might keep a few of us occupied until PatPat can post the next official riddle.
Many hands make light work but my work is never-ending.
Time and again I tell you what you need to know
But I don't tell you what I should.
Who or what am I?

Oh dear. Here I am thinking I'll keep everyone occupied for a while with a new riddle, and then Orion goes and gets it on the very first guess! Where is Choices with 'Harry's left foot' when you need her?!! I suppose you'd better keep going now and post another 'unofficial-just-temporary-till-PatPat-gets-back riddle'.
Clearly, the riddle was so obvious that explanations are unnecessary. The main clues there were the 'many hands' and the 'time and again'. And yes, you were right in your reasoning Orion. It doesn't do what it 'should' do - tell the time. Over to you.
(Note: The exact answer is not stated in this post, and the riddle-solver’s explanation was not copied for these archives, unfortunately.)

Oh dear. That was actually correct? It was in fact a "Harry's left foot"-guess. (The mental image of people sniffing Harry's left foot to see if it smells of roses will never leave me again.)
So here is the new "step-in-if-PatPat-doesn't-mind"-riddle:
Xyxxxxxy
You might ask yourselves: But why?
'Cause I was real long time ago.
Sometimes yes and sometimes no.
Who or what am I?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Mona, you have it! It is indeed the stag patronus, which keeps being handed down from owner to owner.
Xyxxxxxy
(First James has it (XY), then Lily in doe shape (xx), then Snape (xx, shame, oh shame, Severus is stuck with the Size Zero Girly Version), and finally Harry (xy), who has the manful antler brute again.)
You might ask yourselves: But why?
'Cause I was real long time ago.
(James' animagus shape is a stag, and probably the Marauders learned to change into animals before they learned to cast a Patronus.)
Sometimes yes and sometimes no.
(Which leads us to the rather philosophical question: How "real" is the animal body of an animagus? The question is a bit related to the (as yet unanswered) question whether Hogwarts is a real castle or a ruin.)
Who or what am I?
Hint one: I don't do what my name says, I'm too graceful. (I never stagger.)
Hint two: I have a ginormous set of antlers. Sometimes yes and sometimes no! (See Snape thread! They got it wrong on the Bloomsbury cover, by the way: On the DH cover it should have been the Doe Patronus, not the Stag Patronus, which would have been much more fitting on the POA cover! Eejits.)

Wow Orion, how on earth did you think of that xyxx line? Pure genius! And Elanor, for guessing what it meant!
The only reason I guessed it is I remember your 'antler envy' (LOL!) post on the Snape thread, and you using the words ginormous antlers!
Here's my riddle, which is sure to be guessed in the next post, lol!
I'm here to treat
But nothing sweet
I'm always, always fuming!
Remember, to quiet lie
Forget and you may cause to die.
Who or what am I?

Yes, Orion, It is the Wolfsbane potion! The explanation, if any is necessary-
I'm here to treat
I'm here to treat the werewolf condition
But nothing sweet
Sugar makes the Wolfsbane potion useless
I'm always, always fuming!
Snape brings Lupin a gobletful of Wolfsbane potion which was smoking faintly, and after he gulps it down the goblet is still smoking
Remember, to quiet lie
Remember to take your potion, and you can curl up somewhere as a harmless wolf
Forget and you may cause to die.
Forget to take it, like Lupin did, and you'll become a dangerous werewolf
Who or what am I?
**sigh** I better go to the Riddle Archives and do some research on how to make up a really confunding one!
In the mean time, looking forward to another confunding riddle from you, Orion!
