to finish his journal entry
I see this story as a way to get to know Fudge a little better, since we really don't get to know him that well in the books. I imagined that he is a confusing combination of inferiority complex (constantly worrying about his position being usurped by Dumbledore) and arrogant superiority (feeling 'entitled' to the position). In the previous section he was musing about the potential danger or otherwise posed by Dumbledore, but was then reassuring himself that perhaps DD was less of a threat than he imagined because he (Fudge) was a brilliant orator who could win support with his brilliant speeches.
I'd really like to get a bit of an insight into the wizarding political process with this short piece of journal writing (although I realise that, being Five Words, this could go in a totally different direction! ) And that's OK. Perhaps Fudge could reflect on a political debate that he thinks swung things his way, or an advertising campaign that generated lots of support for his cause. Something like that.
As always, these are just my ideas, provided for the benefit of anyone who's not quite sure where the story might be heading. Feel free to ignore!

I finally had a chance to read the McGonnagall reports on the first year students. I really thought her intelligence came through in the precision of her word choices. She tries to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but she has little tolerance of foolishness. I can't imagine a modern teacher here in the US getting away with being so forthright. I thought the teacher in her came through in her encouragement of all the students.
Nice formatting, PAH! I'm grateful that you and the other prefects take the time to keep this site fun and engaging. I find it hard to spend much time here so I realize how much effort you and the others put in to keep the fun going. Thanks again to all!

- I thought Fudge should have a comment about his predecessor, Millicent Bagnold and the end of VW1 (Voldemort War 1). Maybe we could learn about how Fudge took over.

how the masses' minds work.
Julia, you can choose any house you want, even if its's already taken. I think there's more than one Ravenclaw prefect for instance, but you can still ask for that if you like. And no, Slytherin has not been taken yet.

Minister Bagnold, while undeniably very
Thanks, BB! And will edit in your comments about Minnie McG's reports into the 'post-story comments' post later, when I have more time. I'm assembling a small cabinet now, and am just taking a quick tea-break! (And I agree with you, re: the precision of our word choices... well-done to all of us! )
Julia, pick whichever house you'd like, irrespective of anyone else's choice. Denise said there could be more than one Prefect per house. Last I heard, is still in need of a Prefect. Just let Denise know via a post in the 'Questions' thread, or a PM.
EDIT: Hehe, I see Mona edited in a similar answer to Julia's Q.

swayed by the promises of
"Fudge became Minister of Magic upon Millicent Bagnold's retirement, since Bartemius Crouch Sr. had lost his shot at the job, and Dumbledore refused the post." ~ Lexicon
Hmmm... Millicent Bagnold was retiring, so whoever the voters chose Fudge over, it wasn't Milly, right? Then who?
I admit it, I wrote a stalling post. Hopefully it's vague enough that it won't cause a problem.

Well, there's no reason why a famous fireworks inventor shouldn't get into politics. Maybe with the new mood of celebration in the country he thought he had a shot.

Mona, I agree with PAH. That was a very clever word choice.
PAH, perhaps celebrating Voldemort's downfall continued for a long time! Or if the political process in the wizarding world is anything like that in the U.S., it would have been a very long process!
