20 Questions (Vol. V)
This game was originally started on World Crossing by shepherdess - Oct 8, 2008 1:11 pm On October 8, 2008
shepherdess posted the following:
I've found this game works well on my family forum, and I think it might be fun here too.
For anyone unfamiliar with the game, it works like this:
Basic rules:
1. Someone thinks of something--a person, place or thing (in this case, HP related, of course).
2. Others ask "yes" or "no" questions to gain information about the subject.
3. Only 20 questions are allowed. If it isn't guessed within the 20 questions, that person gets another turn. If it is guessed, the person who guessed it goes next.
The rules may need to be modified as we adapt the game for this forum. Some things we might want to consider are:
1. Should things like spells, book titles, etc. be allowed as they may be very difficult to identify within a 20 question limit?
2. Should we increase the number of questions to allow for very obscure things?
Tip: I've found it most helpful if, when asking a question, you number your question, so it's easier to keep track of how many questions have been asked.
So I will start the game off, and see if anyone's interested in playing. I'm thinking of something HP related, and you have 20 questions to identify what I'm thinking of. Let the questioning begin!

Vol. IV of this game, the first one on forumotion, ended here on the 68th page of that thread. Threads usually max. out at 67 pages, and in order to prevent having the Vol. IV thread close suddenly and splitting into a new thread out of the blue, like what happened to the first Chat thread way back when we moved over here from WX, I closed it and started this new thread, so the move could be nice and orderly. Game #255 is still in progress, and Solitaire's latest update can be found here. ~Potteraholic

Re: 20 Questions (Vol. V)
Edit: See question #12 and its answer.
1. Is it a tangible object? Yes.
2. Is it magical? Yes.
3. Is it first mentioned before GoF? No, I don't think so ... not specifically.
4. Is it first mentioned specifically before we meet Rufus Scrimgeour? Yes.
5. Does this magical object belong to a male? No.
6. Does it belong to an adult? No.
7. Is the object worth a lot of money? I'm not really sure how to answer this. Its worth is probably contingent on a number of factors, that it is magical being one of them. It is certainly important to our story.
8. Is it bigger than a breadbox? Yes.
9. Is this object first mentioned specifically in OotP? No.
10. Is it first mentioned in GoF? Yes, I think so. While it may have been mentioned in a general way as existing in earlier books, I think this is the first time we see it mentioned in a way that it is important to the action of the scene. (Does that make sense?)
11. Does this object belong to a Hogwarts student? No.
12. When this object was first mentioned in GoF, was it during the 2nd half of the book (chs. 19 onwards)? No, it is mentioned briefly in the first half of the book. I'm sorry ... I was thinking of a specific incident in the second half, but it is definitely mentioned earlier in the book.
13. Is this object first mentioned before the 3rd task? Yes, it is.
1. Is it a tangible object? Yes.
2. Is it magical? Yes.
3. Is it first mentioned before GoF? No, I don't think so ... not specifically.
4. Is it first mentioned specifically before we meet Rufus Scrimgeour? Yes.

Re: 20 Questions (Vol. V)
Now that there's a recent update here, I'll go ahead and Archive Vol. IV in the 'Completed Game Threads' section. I wonder if any other game threads are nearing the page 67 mark and need a new thread soon? I'll go have a look.
Okay, on with the game!
EDIT: Hangman and Never-Ending Word-Association are at pages 57 and 56. So about 10 more pages or 150 posts to go. They'll run out sometime next week, maybe...

Thanks, Solitaire, but now that the new thread's up and running - a house-elf must've been in - I'll leave it to others to continue the guessing.
