I hope this works. I wasn't sure what you had in mind Julia, but with only 5 posts left I didn't think there was enough time to get into much of a conversation about Hagrid's broken wand. I was thinking this might be Hagrid's way of saying that there is now hope that both his wand and his heart could be mended. Does that make sense?

EDIT: Verity, it seems like an ending to me. I agree that this was the only way to finish the sentence with five words.

The End? It's the only way I could think of to finish that sentence with five words. A lovely sentiment Julia.

Story #149
Thanks for getting this story finished, Julia and Verity. I hereby officially declare this story C L O S E D.
I sent Mona an email asking if the offer she made earlier to compile the posts still stood. If she's not able to do so, I'll compile the story some time after Christmas, and hopefully have the story up by the new year. (Julia, if you have time to Hagrid-ize the story in the coming days, u can email me the version with the revised words, and i'll include it in the final story.)
I don't know exactly who is set to start the new story, but as Julia and Verity posted more often than Mona or I did, it's one of you two. There are only about 60-odd posts left in this thread before it maxes out. Perhaps we can write a 50 post 250 word story like we wrote last year? I don't have time to check to see where it is to provide a link for it here... I thought writing that story went quite well. Any thoughts?
I won't lock this thread yet, in case anyone wants to post about how we end this volume of Five Word stories and get ready to start Vol. XVIII in 2013.

Re: Potty Game: Five Words (Vol. XVII)
I don't know if you've heard from Mona, PAH, but I have been thinking about the future of Five Words. It's been going a long time now, and has gone through quite a few changes since the beginning. We have written some great stories over the years and thanks to PAH, we have a fantastic archive of all our previous stories. For me, the fun comes from being a part of something bigger and contributing to each story. It's not a competition, like it was in the early days, to see who would post the most and who would hold the crown for most posts in a story. So, I have a radical idea to propose - why don't we carry on without worrying about the statistics?
There are only four of us who post here any more. We can just take turns to start each story. And while we're at it, we can each take turns to compile the stories. If we don't worry too much about the statistics (perhaps just the time and date of the starting and finishing posts), then compiling the story is a much less onerous task. To keep it simple I propose that whoever starts each story, also compiles it (although if we do anything that requires fancy formatting, then PAH may still have to be called on for a consulting role when it comes to posting the finished story. )
What do you all think?
To close out this thread, how about a 250 word list of New Year's Resolutions for our favourite HP characters. Nothing too serious, just a bit of fun, perhaps set around the middle of the series. So for instance, Harry could make a resolution to limit his 'saving people' to no more than one per year! That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure we could all do better if we put our heads together. Or, if someone else has another idea for a short story, we could do that.

Re: Potty Game: Five Words (Vol. XVII)
Verity, I like your ideas. I can try to compile this story, since I was the one who started it. I have never done that before, and it probably won't be as good as the ones PAH has done, so be patient, please. I also like the idea of taking turns starting (and compiling) stories. If there is no competition, the statistics part will be easier to do, as it won't really matter who had the most posts.
I LOVE the idea of New Year Resolutions!

Re: Potty Game: Five Words (Vol. XVII)
Hi Julia. I'm glad my ideas aren't too radical for you. Let's see what Mona and PAH think. Although I don't think there's any need for you to compile the last story, as I believe Mona and PAH have already started on that. The taking turns compiling thing will start from the next story. And since we're short on posts in this thread, maybe we should get started, so here goes...

Will we have one resolution per character? Or will some of them have a longer list? I could imagine that in the case of Hermione, for example. But then we could include more characters if we limited the number of resolutions they could make.

Story #149
Sounds like a fine idea, Verity.
And I the idea of everyone taking a turn compiling the story and even formatting it. I can send each of you a master sheet (Word doc) with all of the BBCoding. I am finding that I spend more time in other HP-Pottermore places online, on Facebook, where there are more people posting more frequently, so Five Words has taken a bit of a back seat for me lately.
Mona has sent me the compiled version of the story and its stats. Thanks, Mona! I will try and find some time to post Story #149 before I head back to school on the 2nd.
Since Story #149 needs 3 posts for the official posting, I will reserve them now in advance before any more of Story #150 gets written. (Could folks include Story #150 in the post title? Thanks! ) These reserved story posts will not count in the posts remaining, as I budgeted for them already when I stated how many posts were left before.

Nice work on your picture to accompany the story, PAH. That was quick work!
I also think we should try and stick to one resolution per character, although I agree, Hermione would probably make many!
So since I started this story, I'll compile it.

If we are midway in the series, we are just after the Yule Ball, so I think Ron would think of Krum and Hermione.
Oh, so Mona has already compiled the last story! Sending us the master sheet is a great idea, PAH, thanks! I like your new picture, too.

Thanks, Verity and Julia! Ever since I downloaded Paintbrush, Mac's version of the Windows program Paint, I have been having lots of fun designing stuff.
Thanks for offering to compile this story, Verity. I will make a primer master doc, which will, hopefully, be as self-explanatory as possible, when I post Story #149, and send it off to you. I imagine I will send something color-coded with highlighted sections of code where you would just plug in the necessary text in between. And there is a practice thread here where you could try some stuff out, just to be sure, before posting the official story and stats.
Thinking ahead to the new volume, i really do think it would be better if stories were shorter. It's harder to keep up with longer stories, and the turn-over might be faster. Just a suggestion.
P.S. I like the idea of turn-taking, and think we should still keep stats as well, as it's interesting data to have about a story. Lots of decisions I made as the Moderator of this game, like setting up the story length limit of 2,000 words, were based on looking at the typical word length and writing time of previous stories. So I really think stats must be kept for all future stories.

I think we should keep some basic stats, like the number of words/posts, the contributors, and the time taken to complete the story, but I don't think there's much point keeping track of how many times each contributor posted. Not given the way the thread's been going for the past year or so.

I agree, which is why I only mentioned story length and duration of writing time in my previous post. The idea of not having to count any more posts, person to person, screen after screen, is one I embrace fully!

Going along with the idea that this is around GOF time. This would probably also be a good resolution for Ron too, but he might not be ready to admit it. I can just imagine Harry and Ron working out their Resolutions together, like their Divination homework.
