Archive of HP Riddles, Set #50, Riddle/Answer #492
A long time spent in ice and snow
Walking where the footless go
Passing by an ugly mark
And the dangerous thirst in the night so dark
A spell of rest and deadly screams
Run with the one above your dreams
Rats and lice I'll lead away
It's the nasty woman's special day
And then, remember, you must try
At last: the lie about the lie
Thank you very much for your guesses!
Choices, Hagrid's trip to visit the giants is a good guess, but unfortunately not the answer to the riddle. (Lovely avatar, BTW! )
Mona, Dumbledore's death on the tower is also a good guess, but is not the answer, either.
Verity, the Giant Squid is not the answer, but I almost wish it was.
But, alas! The riddle has been solved.
* answers below *
LOL! I thought this riddle would be a shortlived one, but it was really fun to make one again. Thanks again for your guesses!
Congratulations, Julia! Now we're all waiting for your next riddle!

- Spoiler:
- Julia, the answer is indeed the Collected Works of Gilderoy Lockhart.
A long time spent in ice and snow
Year with the Yeti (the Snowman).
Walking where the footless go
Wanderings with Werewolves. I assume they have paws, not feet...
Passing by an ugly mark
Travels with Trolls. Troll is a mark, and trolls are ugly.
And the dangerous thirst in the night so dark
Voyages with Vampires. They are nocturnal creatures and drink blood.
A spell of rest and deadly screams
Break with a Banshee. Banshees have a scream that may kill you.
Run with the one above your dreams
Gadding with Ghouls. Ron has his bedroom under the Ghoul in the attic at the Burrow.
Rats and lice I'll lead away
Gilderoy Lockhart's Guide to Household Pests.
It's the nasty woman's special day
Holidays with Hags.
And then, remember, you must try
At last: the lie about the lie
Magical Me. Lockhart's autobiography. As he has lied about his deeds, you could say that his life is a lie, and in his autobiography he keeps on lying. The word "remember" is meant to make you think of memory and Lockhart's skill for Memory Charms.
LOL! I thought this riddle would be a shortlived one, but it was really fun to make one again. Thanks again for your guesses!
Congratulations, Julia! Now we're all waiting for your next riddle!

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Really??? I didn't mean it! The riddle reminded me of Lockhart's books, but I couldn't figure out all the clues (like the "ugly mark", LOL), and I was sure there was a trick somewhere! I really like the riddle with this answer, too; but ... I'm sorry I can't start a new riddle now. In a few days, we are going away for a ten-day trip, and I won't be able to visit the Forum regularly (if at all).
Could someone, please, please, please, do it instead of me?

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
If it's Ok, I'll give it a try. This came to me in the middle of the night, so don't judge too harshly and don't guess it too quickly.
Now that I'm leaving, what do you say?
Up, up and away, you'll see me no more today.
Once again, what do you say?
Let the guessing begin.......

Good guess, but it is not Buckbeak.
Now that I'm leaving, what do you say?
Up, up and away, you'll see me no more today.
Once again, what do you say?
Hint: The answer is actually what you would say to whatever is leaving.
Guesses: Something to do with Dumbledore, Buckbeak

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Wow, some very thoughtful answers, but alas, it is not Wingardium Leviosa or Snape flying out the window. Mona does have the right idea with her answer "Coward!" That is what you might yell at Snape as he leaves.
Now that I'm leaving, what do you say?
Up, up and away, you'll see me no more today.
Once again, what do you say?
Hint #1: The answer is actually what you would say to whatever is leaving.
Hint #2: Remember hint #1.

Is it Marge flying away after she was blown up? Not sure what would be said to her, though.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
More good guesses.....however it is not Aunt Marge or Expelliarmus. Thanks for those guesses though.
Now that I'm leaving, what do you say?
Up, up and away, you'll see me no more today.
Once again, what do you say?
Hint #1: The answer is actually what you would say to whatever is leaving.
Hint #2: Remember hint #1.
Hint #3: The first and last lines simply ask the question - What would you say to whatever is leaving? The line in the middle holds two important clues - up, up and away and you'll SEE me no more today.
Guesses: Something to do with Dumbledore, Buckbeak, Hedwig, Wingardium Leviosa, Snape flying out the window, Aunt Marge, Expelliarmus
I'll keep the riddle up one more day and if no one guesses it, I'll put up the answer tomorrow afternoon. :-)

Since there have been no more guesses, I am going to reveal the answer.......
Now that I'm leaving, what do you say?
Up, up and away, you'll see me no more today.
Once again, what do you say?
* answers below *
Now, I pass the riddle wand to someone else. Take it away.
Now that I'm leaving, what do you say?
Up, up and away, you'll see me no more today.

- Spoiler:
- OK, the answer is..... "Goodbye Norberta" (Note: first thought to be a boy, Norbert became Norberta). That is the answer to the first and third lines question, "what do you say?". The "up, up and away" refers to Norberta being carried UP to the top of the tower and taken AWAY to a new home. The crate was covered with the invisibility cloak, thus "you will SEE me no more today'.
Now, I pass the riddle wand to someone else. Take it away.

Riddle #494
Choices, I don't think it's a matter of you stopping the game... I think it's just a case of: most of the people who used to play this particular Potty Game don't really frequent this forum much anymore. And some who do check in on the Games threads all the time may feel that constructing riddles is not their strong suit. At least, that's what my reason is. But to try and revive this thread, here's a quick riddle I came up with, while taking a shower. I'm sure the answer will be guessed quickly, if folks actually look in on this thread and venture a guess.
Beware!
I'm charming.
I'm sweet.
I'll knock you off your feet!
Hopefully, there'll be a guess or two.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Choices, yes I'd have to agree with PAH. We have gone through periods before where this thread has died for a little while, only to be revived by one of our riddlers, as PAH has now done. You definitely shouldn't take it personally!
Now for a guess. How about ... Fainting Fancies?

Verity, thanks for the guess. You're on the right track, but that's not the answer I was thinking of.

Guessed: Fainting Fancies
