Oh man... As I posted that last night I though, "I really shouldn't post, I might have to come up with a new one."
Okay, off to think for a bit, be right back.
Edit:
Okay back and here we are:
Gilded rise and gilded fall
Floating flitting above them all
A cool soprano then intones
Discharging them to their daily homes

Yes Catherine! It is the elevator at the Ministry of Magic.
Gilded rise and gilded fall The doors are gilded and it goes up and down
Floating flitting above them all The memo paper airplanes flit and float above the passengers
A cool soprano then intones The woman's voice announces the level
Discharging them to their daily homes Your daily home is your work, well for those who work days
Take it away, Catherine!

Oh Can I take the riddle please I wrote it a little while ago when inspired!!!
My description lives up to my name
of this I must accept the blame
I may be hard to be found
and within me one soul is bound
For a baker I am just too short
and anger and hate within has been taught
many riches I possess, including sable
yet it is not the rich now, who come to my table
Many images around me of this I can see
But do you know what I am? this rhyme speaks of me
I have to vacate PC - be back in a bit!!

ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh - oh go on then Azi!!!
12 Grimmauld Place is indeed the answer well done
explanation:
My description lives up to my name - well it is a "grim old place"
I may be hard to find - near impossible as it is unplottable
for a baker just too short - a bakers dozen is 13 and of course number 12 is just a bit short of 13
anger and hatred are taught - unfortunately this was Sirius' view of his families background and the shrieking Mrs. Black echoes this
many riches I possess including sable - the house is littered with artifacts, and sable - well there isn’t a fur coat but Sable is also heraldic colour and is the heraldic colour for Black
but the rich don’t come to the table now, indeed it is the Weasleys who are anything but rich!
Many images are around - this refers to the pictures / portraits / elf heads in the house
so all in all number 12 Grimmauld Place is the answer .. well done azi - guess what? it is now your turn!!!!

John, you are correct with your guess of hags! My explanation...
Distrusted and doubted, - Hags have been known to eat children and they appear to have the same distrust put upon them as vampires and werewolves.
From fairytale rhymes. - According to the Lex, there was a hag called Maladora Grimm, who was the queen from Snow White, and also Leticia Somnolens, who was responsible for Sleeping Beauty.
Sometimes can mean,
Nasty times. - Quirrell apparently had a 'nasty bit of business' with a hag on his year's experience away from teaching.
Written about, - Gilderoy Lockhart wrote 'Holidays with Hags'.
Slandered for nowt. - Hags feel they have an unnecessary reputation. Annis Black (a hag) wrote to the Daily Prophet protesting against the portrayal of hags as 'flesh-eating monsters'. This was in a Daily Prophet from the days of the fan club magazine, so you might only have got this reference if you read the Lexicon a lot!
Who or what am I?
Note - Nowt means nothing!
I hope this explanation make sense. It was a pretty difficult riddle unless you read the Lexicon, I think.
Take it away, John!

Good morning (day or evening)!
Oh, I fear this will be either too easy or too obtuse. So I guess I am of two parts.
Beset by an olive,
I'm called complaintive.
Though I am no tree,
I'm known to the three.
I hope you can find the answer, just not too soon.

Catherine, You got it!
"Beset by an olive" -- Olive Hornby teased Myrtle, causing her to hide in the girl's bathroom.
"I'm called complaintive" -- (you try to rhyme with olive!) Moaning is a type of complaint.
"Though I am no tree" -- I never placed Myrtle as a tree related to a Willow until I read it in the Lexicon. I am familiar with Crape Myrtle, which is not related to the Myrtle tree, and the "weeping" Willow which is a tree.
"I'm known to the three." -- The three, Harry, Ron, and Hermione do know Myrtle quite well.
Azi, I think Grawp was a good guess for the tree reference!
Catherine, you have the riddle. Take it away!

Here's the new riddle. Thank you for your patience. I'm not very good at these, but I made an effort.
Once upon a time in a forest glen
Purity reigned over sin.
Much too fleet for mortal foot
Captured by maiden hand.
Once was gold and this was lost.
Next came the silver frost.
Finally whiter than snow turn
Merely a glimpse did he earn.

Well known to wizard and Muggle alike, I'm known in legends far and wide. Unseen by some, a pest to many, if you’re not careful you'll have many. I'm very elemental to this earth you see, disguised in many forms is me. I fly through the air with greatest of ease, but nevertheless I'll be back you'll see

Hope you have your riddle ready, it is indeed a gnome.
A gnome is a legendary creature. According to the alchemist Paracelsus, gnomes are the most important of the elemental spirits of the classical element of earth. Gnomes feature in the legends of many of central, northern and eastern European lands. Well known to wizard and Muggle alike, - ""Muggles have garden gnomes, too, you know," Harry told Ron they crossed the lawn. "Yeah, I've seen those things they think are gnomes," said Ron, bent double with his head in a peony bush, "like fat little Santa Clauses with fishing rods . . ."
I fly through the air with greatest of ease, - "This is what you have to do," he said. He raised the gnome above his head ("Gerroff me!") and started to swing it in great circles like a lasso.
but nevertheless I'll be back you'll see. - "They'll be back," said Ron as they watched the gnomes disappear into the hedge on the other side of the field. CoS, The Burrow

Earth is one of my colors, but not what I find divine.
I symbolize affection, but from herbology get sleep and sound rest.

Neville is correct, the riddle was about Lavender Brown.
Lavender is a sign of affection, and concealment. Herba/ly it is associated with sleep and dresses for old ladies. Well! That is what the Google search turned up. I couldn't make that up myself!

But it was her turn, after she died.

Well done, Good Evans!
Warning! Lengthy unnecessary explanation to follow....
"Ludo" is Latin for "to play, sport", but can also mean "to delude" or "to deceive". This reflects both his sporting ways and his brief deception of both the goblins and the Weasley twins.
A "bagman" collects money for illegal gambling businesses and loan sharks. This goes way back to the early gangster/mob crime days in the United States. The bagman either collected the weekly bribe money from businessmen who were being "protected" (With thanks to the W hats in a name? site)
Over to you GE

edit - OK riddle

I've also had a recent brush with romance
Within my past secrets are hidden
and my name is not what was originally bidden
a namesake had doubts, others teaching troubles
but for now I think, I'll just stick to blowing bubbles.

Well Done Catherine - I was trying to be all mysterious, but obviously you were too good for me!!!
yes indeed it is Dean
reasons: he was only on the Gryffindor Quidditch team a short while, he had a brief(ish) romance with Ginny
He doesn’t know he is a half and half, he thinks he is Muggle-born
Jo originally called him Gary - and of course his birth surname is probably not Thomas, if Mum and Stepdad are both Thomases (but that’s not canon)
Doubting Thomas was one of Jesus' disciples, and Dean is another name for a Teacher / principal /Academic type.
troubles just rhymes with bubbles and Dean’s favourite footie team is West Ham, the supporters’ theme song for West ham United is "I'm forever blowing bubbles" so there you have it
very well done (and so quickly) Catherine, over to you......

Good guesses all, but I couldn’t fool you all for long. The answer is indeed Cedric Diggory.
Explanation as follows:
Smoke and ash, spread-eagled remains (Smoke refers to the smoke emitted from Cedric’s wand during Ollivander’s test, and also that Cedric ‘returned’ in smoky form during the Priori Incantatem. Cedric’s wand is made of ash, and ‘ash’ is something one might also expect to find with smoke. Harry was appalled to see Cedric's body spread-eagled on the ground.)
Tragic glory coldly slain. (Cedric achieved eternal glory by winning the Tri-Wizard Tournament, but was killed in cold blood by Wormtail at Voldemort’s command)
The innocent are the first to die (Harry was told this by a centaur in SS; Cedric was certainly ‘innocent’ and he had a unicorn hair in his wand. Cedric is one of Voldemort’s first casualties since regaining his body)
Lover left with tears and sighs. (Cho cried all through OoP)
Always good and kind and brave (Dumbledore’s description of Cedric from the Leaving Feast in GoF)
Seeker of a sleeping grave. (Cedric was the ‘Seeker’ of the Hufflepuff team, and requested that Harry take his body back to his parents.)
Remember that fateful night (Dumbledore urges the students to ‘Remember Cedric Diggory’ because he strayed into the path of Voldemort)
Try to do what is right. (Dumbledore urges the students to ‘choose what is right’ over what is easy).
Whew. So, it looks like Geauxtigers is the winner of this round.

Now you've got it! It is the Elixir of Life!
Harder than even blood to procure A reference to the old saying about getting blood from a stone.
My legend will forever endure. People have long written about the immortality offered from the elixir.
Time slips -oh- so slowly past. Flamel and his wife lived for centuries.
The question is, will it last? You have to keep taking the Elixir, or perish.

The answer isn't the mistletoe Jewel but you actually wrote the right answer so I guess I can say you found it still! Congratulations!
The answer was "baubles".
"Trying to fool you? Possibly..." This line and the "Crazy as I may be, I'm the wisest eventually." ones were referring to the fact that a "bauble" is a Christmas decoration but also, according to the Oxford dictionary, the name given to the baton jesters used to use as an emblem. The "fool" was the one who was able to say the truth under the guise of a joke: his "madness" hides in fact wisdom (symbolism we find in the series BTW, as for DD who is a genius but also "a bit mad" as said in PS).
"In well-hidden places light plays with me": this was a reference to Dobby's baubles in the Room of Requirement and also to the ones Harry sees at St Mungo's in OotP.
"And your path becomes merry": because of the password used during Christmas time to access the Gryffindor common room in the HBP which was "baubles" and "merry" to make you think of Christmas.
Congrats again Jewel! The new riddle is all yours!

Thanks, Good Evans! Sorry it took so long before I got to the riddle, but here it is. Mind you, it is fairly short and kind of obvious, (I think ) but since I'm going away on holiday in two days, I thought I should make this one quick.
Old and worn
Tattered and torn
I may seem to be
But a most faithful one
I will adorn

Old and worn
Tattered and torn

--------------------Obviously the horrid robes!
But a most faithful one
I will adorn
On this glorious eve.------------------Harry's "most"ly faithful friend, except that little incident over the TWT. Eve meaning evening.

Congratulations The One! You're the closest so you can have the pleasure of solving the riddle.
The answer is timepieces (clocks and watches). The twelves refer (as so many of you guessed) to Dumbledore's watch, I almost added a second twelve for Ron's watch.
The nine is one of the two Weasley clocks, the one with a hand for each family member. The one refers to the other Weasley clock that has one hand and words such as "time to feed the chickens".

The One - Jul 6, 2006 4:51 am (#2932 of 2987)
My riddle.
My first one, but I hope this will work:
I create changes.
But if I do, there will be nothing to change.
So perhaps I don't?
Hard to tell, really.

My guess is Time Turners
Needed The One's explanation, but never got a chance to copy it before WX closed forever.

Okay folks, the riddle as promised.
Don’t be rude, and don’t be snide.
After all I’m on your side.
After suffering true frustration
I am spoken at dawn of revelation.
I am useful I’ll have you know
I help make the green grass grow.
For your plans to come to fruition
I set the needed variable conditions.
So, don’t be rude and don’t be snide,
Can you guess who am I?

Puck! You are Potty Puzzle Queen of The Day.
I hope you reserved some of your wisdom for the next puzzle.
The answer is Hippogriff
Don’t be rude, and don’t be snide. Never insult a hippogriff
After all I’m on your side. Hip. Your hips are on your sides.
After suffering true frustration I am spoken at dawn of revelation. O as in OH!
I am useful I’ll have you know I help make the green grass grow. GR There is a "gr" in green, grass, and grow.
For your plans to come to fruition I set the needed variable conditions. If you want a plan to workout the word if sets the conditions. As in "If it doesn't rain today, I can go to the beach."
So, don’t be rude and don’t be snide,
But can you guess who am I?
Phew! I was hoping not to have to continue this puzzle for another weekend!

Okay, a new riddle. Let's try this...
Be you bawdy or be you shy,
From my perch I will descry.
Although I may make you leery,
I hold the answer to your query.

Ah, once again the long shot pays off! It is indeed the mermaid painting in the Prefects' bathroom! Great job, Smurf! (You do know this means you get to write the next riddle?)
Be you bawdy or be you shy,
From my perch I will descry.
Harry wasn't too keen on being watched while bathing, as I suspect most would be.
Although I may make you leery,
I hold the answer to your query.
The sight of the mermaid is what helped Harry to figure out the egg clue.

OK here goes. A nice easy one after the last few
My essence is mostly evil
But my body is very plain
Half of me wants to stop hurting
While the other half feeds on my pain

Ah, you've got it Finn.
My essence is mostly evil - refers to the prisoners inside ('mostly' evil because sometimes they are innocent - Hagrid, Sirius)
But my body is very plain - it's made of plain stone
Half of me wants to stop hurting - the prisoners
While the other half feeds on my pain - the Dementors

I must thank The One for putting me on the right track, though. Great riddle, smurf!
Hmm, let me think of a riddle tonight and I'll post it tomorrow - but do forgive me if I don't get around to it until around 2:30 pm Forum time or so - I haven't forgotten! (Hopefully, inspiration will immediately come and I'll post it tonight before I doze off!)
EDIT: Wow, I just realized how painfully bad my riddle-writing is, so here's a shot at a pretty easy one, I guess:
A flower I may be,
But one without baby.
Nor am I a teacher,
A student, a creature.
I'm the only other one.
Now don't be outdone.

It's not Lily or Myrtle (one had a baby and the other is a student). I should have known I would be outsmarted, however. Catherine guessed Lycoris Black and Lycoris is a flower, and so I suppose I must accept it, as she is not a mother, teacher, nor student. However, I was, when I wrote the riddle, going for Violet, the Fat Lady's friend.
You all seemed to have the right idea to the riddle: by eliminating parents, teachers, and students, that got rid of Petunia, Narcissa, Myrtle (she was a student when she died), Lily, Lavender, Poppy [Pomfrey], Lupin (apparently a type of flower), and Pansy, and that left Violet. Of course I completely missed Lyrcoris.
So, I suppose Catherine wins on my haste… I did say I couldn't write riddles!! Oh, well. Your go, Catherine!

Goodness! I had NO idea I would be given the next riddle. Had to dash one off quickly.
Finn, I feel like I cheated you. You were within your rights to tell me I didn't get the answer you were looking for; it's your riddle, after all!
As a lot of time has passed, I'll throw this one out. Thanks for the patience, everyone.
Perhaps a riddle, somewhat gaunt;
Hissy fits to get what you want.
Not all do slither in;
Many, though, are blood kin.
Seen as dark but could be fair,
Always find it really rare.

Azi does have the answer of Parseltongue
Perhaps a riddle, somewhat gaunt - A play on the names Riddle and Gaunt and their ancestors and descendants.
Hissy fits to get what you want. Parseltongue sounds like hissing - Also a play on the "hissy hissy" rhyme from HBP.
Not all do slither in - Not everyone who speaks snake language is a snake; also a play on the name Slytherin.
Many, though, are blood kin. - The Gaunts are proud of their blood tie to Salazar Slytherin
Seen as dark but could be fair - Not all wizards who speak Parseltongue are Dark Wizards. Also, the Lex lists "Herpo the Foul" as a known Parseltongue; perhaps not everyone is "foul" but instead "fair."
Always find it really rare. - Parseltongue is a rare gift.
So, Azi, the riddle is yours!

The One is correct! Good thing as well, I'd forgotten what it was myself. Explanation follows...
Trio, Tradition Three champions (generally), a traditional competition for (I think) 700 years.
Cheating, Companionship Cheating in the tournament is traditional, and the point is that young witches and wizards meet new people and form international friendships.
Danger, Death Very dangerous (dragon's etc.), the tournament was stopped after the death toll rose too high and Cedric Diggory was the latest victim (albeit not the Tournament's fault).
Take it away, The One!

hehe Finn I have a riddle ready but it's really easy as it's the first riddle I've ever written, but I'll put it up anyway!
I can open doors
and seal them just as well.
use me if you need something,
or even if you don't.
I can be happy or confused
and some may never see me,
so do not scream, be quiet
for your secret's safe with me.
Yeah told you it was bad! Random and obvious, I just can't make them sound good when spoken out loud! Oh well, have fun with it everybody!

Ok Tori was reading this thread and she pointed out that Azi got the riddle. So sorry!! I think this may have been a case of the mysterious "disappearing post". Anyway, Azi got the right answer. It is charms!
I can open doors - alohomora charm
and seal them just as well. - coloportus charm
use me if you need something, - accio, the summoning charm
or even if you don't. - banishing charm
I can be happy or confused - cheering charms and confundus charms
and some may never see me, - disillusionment
so do not scream, be quiet - sonorus and quietus, both charms
for your secret's safe with me. - fidelius charm
take it away azi!
