The grass has been mowed, the stands are bright and clean, the pennants are snapping in the wind... the brand new transportable St. Mungo's Quidditch Pitch is ready for its first season! Paid for by generous credit card donations from anonymous patrons, this state-of-the-art field is unlike any other. Due to the nature of so many away games, the field is itself transportable - so that the St. Mungo Maniacs will always be playing on home territory - no matter where in the world they are! The team list will soon be announced - but the Maniacs have been known to throw in random players, whether or not they were on the original list. If you wish to be a spectator, find a seat in the stands, and be sure to customize it fully to your exact preference. If you fancy a bit of the action, grab your broom and head for the team dugout.

Right, the teams. I believe we agreed to have the main team and a junior team. Should the two teams take turns in playing matches?

The main team currently is:

Chasers - me (captain), Ticker and Sabby

Beaters - Fawkes and Emily

Keeper - Acceber

Seeker - Pyro

Referee - Viola

Commentator - Marie E

We're still looking for mascotts and cheerleaders.

Whoa - it seems that our new Quidditch Field is attracting a lot of interest. The St. Mungo's Maniacs have been invited to be a member of the International Quidditch League. The official who contacted me stated that there are a few rules that will have to be followed in order to be eligible. As these rules involve getting extra points, I agreed to sign us up. The rules are as follows:

1. Due to the popularity, the roughness, and the speed of Quidditch now with the new fast brooms (bedpans in our case), every team needs to have back-ups for all positions, including captain, and the back-ups need to be able to play at least a few minutes in each game they are present for in order for the game to count in League standing. This means the "junior" team should be absorbed as the back-ups.
2. Each season, the players must rotate positions - this includes Captain, Mascot, Cheerleaders, Commentator, Referees, and Bystanders. Due to the closeness of the upcoming season, the official agreed to let our teams stand as they are for now, as long as rule #1 is followed.
3. Other rules to follow as needed. Feel free to contact the Quidditch Official via owl at pinkylexiconfan@yahoo.com if you have any questions.


Bonus Points
- In case of a tie, one point is awarded to the team for each substitute (back-ups) used in the game. For example, if 9 substitutes are used, 9 points are received.
- In any game, one additional point is given for each player who switches positions. This includes onlookers suddenly joining the game if they feel their team could use a hand. No more than 15 onlookers allowed at a time on the field, so if your fans manage to get on the field before the other teams' fans, all the points go to you.
- The International Quidditch League realizes that sports are very therapeutic, so any witch or wizard that has a note from a doctor, nurse, other medical personnel, or a very good forgery, may join in the game at any time, with no restrictions, so long as they are currently a resident at a medical facility. The team they choose to help is considered to be "handicapped" and receives 2 points per player, as these players have not had a chance to practice with the team.

LOL! Sounds good to me. Who are the back-up beaters, Fawkes and I'll get you a little extra practise I'm sure. Umm... speaking of Fawkes... anyone seen her recently?

The handicapped points sound good, since we're really all handicapped as far as I can tell, so what's an extra bystander or two.

Oh, and of course a big sarcastic thank you to Malfoy and Umbridge for the use of their credit cards to buy this wonderful field!

I'll will referee again, but would really like to be a backup seeker. I've been practicing catching my butterflies.

I love the new quidditch pitch. It looks so fresh, so new, so expensive. *Looks at old, beat-up bedpan* Maybe I will put a fresh coat of paint on my bedpan, just to spruce it up a bit.

You know, since we have this nice, new stadium, maybe we should get some nice new uniforms. Any suggestions?

Oh look guys, *finds pom poms in the bedpan* I've charmed my pom poms so I can use them instead of the beater bats.... cooooool! So if it's a slow match, I can always shout out a few cheers! Um Viola, oh wonderous ref, is that allowed?

Oh and uniforms... my cheerleader outfit was purple & lime green? Maybe those where the team colours?

Yes, Fawkes, I will allow you to use your pom poms as your beater bat.

I can't remember what our team colors are, but I think that Lime green and purple are perfect. Anyone want to design our uniforms?? They should be unique, instill a sense of pride for our team. They should intimidate the other team. They should be flattering to our figures, yet comfortable and easy to move in. Oh, and our bedpans should match.

How about Lime green hospital gowns with purple jackets (to cover our backsides)?

Wow! This place is absolutely spectacular! And the uniforms are wonderful! I like the "booga-booga" face on it that makes bizarre faces at the opposing team (or anyone that looks at it funny).

*Hops on bedpan and starts chasing Fawkes around the pitch until she brandishes wicked looking pom-pom...*

Hmmmmmm... I need a quaffle or something to practice with. Wlfgrl, could I borrow that cute puppy? I promise I won't drop it.

I am crushed to discover that our team colors have altered, as i was halfway through making a red and white cheerleading uniform. (only Barbie sized, I was going to Engorgio it later) Ah well, c'est la vie. Green and purple are cooler anyway, and more maniacal.

Wolfgrl - I suppose your main job would be to help get the crowds excited and cheering for the team so that the team is heartened by the support and is pushed on to succeed. You could come up with some kind of routine, and lead the cheerleaders. Actually, I don't think we have any cheerleaders at the moment.

We haven't got the full reserve team yet and we can't really start playing until we do. We're still looking for two backup chasers, one backup beater, a backup referee, a backup commentator and some cheerleaders. We also apparently need a backup captain but we'll decide on that one when we have the full teams.

Watch out Pigwidgeon. If you dodge bludgers too well, Liz might notice your talent & throw you on a team. It's hard work being a fan around here, but since a team gets extra points for playing with spectators, there remains some incentive to leave you unattached.

I'll be a backup Chaser. In basketball, I'm much better at defense, so I was going to try for backup Keeper, but that's already taken, so I'll take either back up Chaser or backup back up Keeper .

*becomes sane* There are a few reasons for swinging chickens. It's a little known Jewish custom that takes place the day before Yom Kipur. The first reason we do it is that it's a symbolic transfer of sins from you to the chicken so that you start the year off clean. The second is that it's symbolic of the sacrifices we used to make in the Temple. *goes back to normal*

Liz, After seeing the problem you have encountered trying to get backup for all positions, I sent an Owl Post to the International Quidditch League for an official ruling concerning what constitutes a position. I just received the ruling and I have some good news for you and the team. It is not necessary to have backups for non-players, which would include the commentator, cheerleaders, mascot, and bystanders. If the backup captain is one of the players, it is not necessary to have another wizard to fill the backup captain position because it would be treated the same way the regular captain position is treated... a playing captain. As for a backup referee, if you need one, you are welcome to recruit any ghost that has ever played Quidditch and if you still cannot find one, the League will furnish one on request, with a proper one day notice.

I hope the rulings will allow you to get the season started. According to the League, you must have scheduled and played at least four matches before the end of June. A match could begin on the 30th of June and not finish for days. I also noticed that both St. Vitus Hospital for the Shakes in Egypt and the St. Elmo Hospital for Burns and Bites in Persia team are having trouble scheduling matches. One or both of these two could possibly be scheduled quickly. Neither of the two has been able to schedule a match because of local problems. They may love to come to our new Pitch.

Okay, since the non-player ruling includes mascots, both Hem Hem and Wolfgrl can be official mascots.

So, the final team is:

Chasers - Me, Ticker and Sabby (backups: Elfcat, Hermionefan and Dizzy Lizzy)

Beaters - Dobby and Emily (backups: Fawkes and Pigwidgeon)

Seeker - Pyro (backup: Viola)

Keeper - Blast (backup: Acceber)

I've just booked our first match and it's against the St Vitus team, scheduled for the 8th (to give all our players time to find out the arrangement). Climb aboard the pitch because we're going to Egypt!

June 8th sounds good. As I have not participated in a match before how does this work? And is there a set time?

As to Schedules please keep in mind that the next full moons are, June 22, July 21, and August 19. The healers won't let me participate past 5:00pm on those days. Just so you all know.

WELCOME, WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO THE FIRST GAME IN THE AMAZING NEW FLOATING BEDPAN QUIDDITCH PITCH!!!!!

As you know, St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is proud to be home for the ST. MUNGOS MANIACS (pause for wild applause) who are hosting today’s match against the St. Vitus Shakers. (Pause for semi-enthusiastic golf claps)

As you can see the stadium is packed for the match. It looks like the entire Board of Directors from St. Mungo's has turned out, (they'd be the ones surrounded by security trolls...), as well as most of the hospital's staff, inmates and visitors. Come to think of it, maybe there should be a security troll up here in the announcer’s box...

International Bedpan Quidditch Referee Messa DeSheetz is going over the rules with both teams. And the teams are lining up with team captains opting for the traditional Bedpan Quidditch substitute handshake, the squeezing of the roll of Charmin. I must say that is a rather nasty oozing sore on Shaker Captain Ali's right arm. Maniac's Captain Liz doesn't seem interested in wrestling the roll from Ali so it's GAMETIME!!!!

I'm going to be out of town for the next week, so if anyone wants to be the back-up referee....

All you have to do is blow the whistle whenever you feel like it. Not too often though, the crowd gets a little nasty if you blow it too much.

What a landing! Those awaiting portkeys, please exit to your left... no, no... your other left. And make way for the Epidermasticators - Bedpan Quidditch Team for St. Elmo's Hospital for Burns & Bites in Persia!!!

Don't let those fancy rugs covering their bedpans fool you. This team is tough! Rumor has it that whatever bit St. Elmo's Beater Parviz has swelled his arm muscles to the size of a dragon's tail... and speaking of dragons... Team Captain Seyed has been admitted so many times for dragon burns that he's considered a permanent resident at St. Elmo's...

And that moment you've all been waiting for... THE ST. MUNGO'S MANIACS TAKE THE FIELD!!!! There're the rules, . . . the handshake, . . . the whistle, . . .and THE GAME BEGINS!!!!

It's St. Elmo's with possession. Chaser Houmoyoun drives down the field with St. Mungo's in hot pursuit. Beater Dobby gets off a great shot at Epidermasticator's Beater Parvis - and it simply bounces off his right arm. Captain Seyed is in scoring range. The Maniacs goal hoops are wide open. Where is Keeper Blast?!?

He shoots. He scores. It's 10 points to St. Elmo's... and here comes their mascot... It can't be. . . It's not . . . It IS a Persian Purple Fire-Licker. Boy, these dragons are dangerous. I just hope they can get it off the field...

Liz, I felt that the four matches in the first month could cause hardships on some of the teams considering the distances between teams. I contacted the governing body of the International Quidditch League and have just received an Owl Post.

Cutting through all of the legal garbage, you will only have to schedule three matches during the first month (if you would have had less than thirty days but more than twenty-one) plus if a match exceeds a playing time of seven days, you can reduce your number of matches by one. However, you can only use that exception once per three-month quarter.

I hope this helps with your playing and scheduling.

I ordered the Quidditch game for GBA. I am very disappointed and am considering calling the company. They don't have the St. Mungo Maniacs in there anywhere. Although I haven't finished all of the world cups yet. I bet we are in the series after the firebolt. We better be, or I'm calling to complain.

Well... a-hem,... folks, I'd like to assure you that we are in no imminent danger of a sudden or unexpected landing, so I'd recommend you hang onto your seats a bit tighter & let's get back to one of the finest bed-pan quidditch matches being played...

Right. So, it's the Maniacs in possession. Up in the air, play is unaffected by the rotating pitch, that is, except for the goal hoops.

It's Ticker - Liz - Sabby - Liz - Ticker - she shoots & the shot is neatly deflected by Acceber, preventing the Maniacs from scoring against themselves.

Uh, guys...We might have to change our strategy a bit.

It won't be a problem at all, Viola. This pitch comes with a built-in mosquito-repellent shield. All I have to do is push this button here and a force-field will be set up around the stadium keeping all mosquitos out.

*grabs the Quaffle and scores while the opposing Chasers and Keeper are marvelling at the anti-mosquito shield*

News Flash: With an unprecedented decision, the St. Mungo's Maniacs have already forfeited their upcoming game against the Mid-Atlantic Mermaids, scheduled to begin July 16th. Spokes-healer Smith said in a statement earlier today, "The Mermaids wouldn't reschedule - something about the tide not being in their favor - and we needed to make our decision while we still had a team member or two stable enough to not require a padded cell for the arrangements."

Though this loss may tarnish the Maniacs otherwise stellar record, fans & anxious family members alike will be waiting with baited breath to see if the team can pull itself back together in time for their next match against the VonKrakenschnitzheimer Vraknids in Transylvania.

Ticker, the International Quidditch League just sent the following owl to all sponsors of Quidditch teams:

An International Holiday period has been declared for the period beginning 12:01 am BST Saturday 16 July 2005 and ending 11:59 pm BST Friday 22 July 2005. All official Quidditch matches during this time are hereby cancelled. Those matches affected by this decision can be rescheduled anytime between the end of the Holiday period and the end of 2005; however if unable to be rescheduled, the game will not be counted in the standings as either a win, loss, tie, or forfeiture. The Holiday was declared so that all wizards would have the opportunity to glean the latest revelation of St. Jo!

I thought each of the members of the Quidditch team should be made aware of this news as soon as possible. Based on this, the Mermaids have no choice except to reschedule.

Okay, guys, I have our first match of the new season. I received a letter from the Quidditch league people, who said since this season started late due to certain *ahem* bereavements, we only need to play two games this month. Next month it's back to normal, though.

The first match is against the Hungarian Hippogriffs and starts on Monday.

So all aboard the peach! (Was it the peach? Or was it the duck?)

Liz, I took the liberty to contact an official at the International Quidditch League earlier this month and explained that time to get in the second required match before the end of August could be possibly a problem. I asked if there were any exceptions for our being in the League for the first time and being we did not have any previous knowledge of how the IQL worked as for scheduled matches within a calendar month. He finally sent me an owl post and it looks like you do have a way out of getting this match finished and getting your new match started before midnight tomorrow BST, August 31st.

He said to ask by owl post for an official scorekeeper to be sent by IOL for the next match at least twenty-four hours before the match is scheduled and say the match is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. BST, Wednesday, August 31, 2005. He said that the IQL could not possibly respond in time to have an official scorekeeper designated and at the site before the schedule time. Because of that official loophole, you could have the match delayed a minimum of three days, which should give you adequate time to finish this match and reschedule your next match. This exception can only be used once, so use it carefully, if you so choose. And remember, you need to have the owl leave his location no later than 9:30 p.m. BST tonight so that the post will be at IQL headquarters in time. The address is Head Warlock, Suite Q, the Malieveld, The Hague, The Netherlands. That needs to be sent in less two hours and forty-five minutes for this post. If I do not hear from you before then, I will automatically send the post myself. I hope this helps.

...indeed and finally arrived are the St Mungo's Maniacs. Today's match should be only slightly hampered by the mysterious fog that permeates every game here in the Netherland's Nether-world-cup Stadium. It does give the Crocodiles a home team advantage, and the Maniacs stellar record should get a bit of a challenge.

The teams are in position, the ref goes over the 2 or 3 obligatory rules. There's the handshake, the whistle, and the game begins. The Crocodiles have first possession..."

Blehhh, hoogidy, boogity. (Shivers...) Did you see that?!? I almost had the quaffle & suddenly there's an nasty old ghost screaming through my arms. Yechh. This place is creepy.

*finds Quaffle and throws it to dizzy lizzy, who catches it and races towards the goals. Suddenly a huge crocodile comes out of no where and catches her with its tail. There is a yelp as dizzy lizzy slips off the frying pan and just manages to grab on with her teeth, but drops the quaffle. Ticker then hurtles into the crocodile's gut in revenge for lizzy's near fall, and not only does the crocodile drop the quaffle (which Ticker then grabs and scores with) but a large alarm clock comes shooting out of its mouth*

This fog is really disorienting. Pyro, this is the Netherlands, not Hungaria. This is their creepy stadium instead of our fabulous flying pitch. And that is Tinkerbell in your hand, not the snitch. But, I must say, those warm, roasted peanuts look really tasty...

...SMACK!!!! *Bludger hit to the thigh* ...Ooooof. That just makes me mad, that does.

*Flies to oncoming Netherlander with the quaffle and doesn't allow him to chicken out of the collision. Mid-air tackle results in Ticker carrying the chaser with the quaffle down to the hoops where both are thrown through for another 10 points for the Maniacs...*

For some reason that makes my leg feel much better.

Oh, Liz, I should have checked with you first, I'm sorry. But I booked an exhibition game with the Mediterranean Mermaids. We will all have to eat some gillyweed first, then we can practice in the pool. Will we have time to fit it in, or do I need to call them to reschedule?

Btw, I lined the pool with a few phoenix feathers. (I found them on the ground after....you know) So the weight of the pool will not be a factor.

MUNGO'S MANIACS since they have brought their own flying stadium with them. Playing without the home court (or hot tub) advantage will be the WISCONSIN WALLABIES. The Wallabies are certainly ready to give the Maniacs a challenge to their perfect record. As you probably know, they are a transplanted team from Australia, who were sent to Wisconsin in hopes that the land-locked state, dairy air & squeaky cheese curds would have a calming effect. You'll be able to judge for yourselves soon.

And now the teams are taking their positions on the field, the referee goes over both the rules, the snitch is released, the whistle blows, the quaffle is thrown & it's the Wallabies with first possession...

Oops, sorry that's meant to be womble. This is a womble. They're creatures from a children's TV show that used to be on. Wombles live in Wimbledon and they clean up the litter that people leave around.

Okay, everyone, the new Bedpan Quidditch season is beginning. I've booked all our matches already. There will be nine games in this season and they will be against (in the following order):

1. The Tanzanian Tebos
2. The Australian Ashwinders
3. The Kenyan Kneazles (who, despite their assurances to the contrary, I'm sure we've played before, but clearly they want a rematch)
4. The Brazilian Bicorns
5. Egyptian Erumpents
6. Ghana Gytrash
7. Indonesian Inferi
8. Madagasgan Malaclaws
9. Polish Pixies

Just as a reminder, here's our team:

Chasers: Me, Ticker and Sabby (backups: Elfcat, Hermionefan and dizzy lizzy)
Beaters: Dobby and Emily (backups: Fawkes and Pigwidgeon)
Keeper: Blast (Backup: Acceber [Yikes, haven't seen Acceber in aaages!])
Seeker: Pyro (backup: Viola)
Referee: Viola
Commentator: Marie E
Mascott: Hem Hem (and Wolfgrl)
Cheerleaders: Hermionefan, Fawkes, Emily and Elfcat (when they're not playing backup)

I think we decided to use the flying pitch to get to matches rather than the duck, so that wherever we are in the world we'll always be playing on home ground.

Liz; you might want to just double check the Ashwinders don't try and cheat by putting the pitch near where Cyclone Floyd is dumping lots of rain. The Ashwinders would have the advantage then...
