Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Puck, the answer is not the Bloody Baron, and Choices it's not Godric Gryffindor.
I've added a hint -
First one of a name fair
Caused this seeker to stare
On a grave, and in books
On clothes, to get looks
I keep cropping up everywhere.
Hint: I cause to stare but I can't stare back, despite appearances.
Guessed: Gryffindor's Sword, Snape, Bloody Baron, Godric Gryffindor.

The hint makes me think of Aragog.....is it the big blind spider?

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Choices, thanks for the guess. Aragog certainly fits the hint, but it's not the answer I thought of.
Unofficial hint - The answer is a non-living thing.

You are absolutely right, BB! Looking forward to your riddle.
The riddle -
First one of a name fair
Caused this seeker to stare
On a grave, and in books
On clothes, to get looks
I keep cropping up everywhere.
Hint: I cause to stare but I can't stare back, despite appearances.

- Spoiler:
- The answer to the riddle is The Sign of the Deathly Hallows.
First one of a name fair
The 'fair' name is Albus, which means white. Dumbledore used the sign instead of the initial A in his name, in his letter to Grindlewald.
Caused this seeker to stare
The seeker is Krum, who was astounded when he saw Xenophilius wearing the sign around his neck.
On a grave,
We see the symbol on the gravestone of Ignotus Peverell.
and in books
On clothes, to get looks
Krum says, "Some idiots copied it onto their books and clothes thinking to shock, make themselves impressive..."
I keep cropping up everywhere.
The trio keep encountering the symbol throughout the Horcrux Hunt.
Hint: I cause to stare but I can't stare back, despite appearances.
The symbol is described as a triangular eye, but of course it can't really see.
Guessed: Gryffindor's Sword, Snape, Bloody Baron, Godric Gryffindor, Aragog.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
This will be my first riddle that I've ever written. I hope it's not to easy (or too hard). I hope all you night owls enjoyed the midnight premier of the DH2 movie! I'll be going to a matinee!
I kiss friend or foe with no hesitation
My friend thinks that Dudley would be prey for my relations
Another name is fierce but that's not really true
I'll greet you all loudly and you'll be wet when I am through

Fang tries to lick Harry and Umbridge without hesitation.

My friend is Hagrid. Hagrid thought Dudley looked like a pig (tried to turn him into one). Fang is a boarhound, bred to hunt wild pigs so his breed would love to hunt him.
Another name is fierce but that's not really true
"Fang" sounds fierce but he’s friendly and a coward.
I'll greet you all loudly and you'll be wet when I am through
Fang barks a lot with visitors, and then slobbers all over Harry’s robes.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Thanks, BB, and welcome to the club of riddle-makers!
Here is the new riddle:
The shared friend of bitter foes
Or an old man's joys and woes
A duplicate for the third
Reaching a sound for a word
And finally something small
Reminds you of someone tall
- There are altogether five
We can see two of them live

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
I'd like to post an advance warning that if by some miracle I guess correctly there's no way I can post a riddle right now. However, I can't ignore a lonely riddle! It is another intriguing one, and I really have no idea. I've been trying to think of things that there are five of, and all I can come up with is:
Beds in Harry's dormitory in Gryffindor Tower?
Beds in Harry's dormitory in Gryffindor Tower?

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Thanks for the first guess and the thinking, too!
Verity, the answer is not the beds in Harry's dormitory in Gryffindor Tower, but something else we have five of. BTW, congratulations on the book and on winning the Trivia, too! You are on a roll!
I'm giving you an early hint with some advice on how to approach the riddle.
The shared friend of bitter foes
Or an old man's joys and woes
A duplicate for the third
Reaching a sound for a word
And finally something small
Reminds you of someone tall
- There are altogether five
We can see two of them live
Hint:
Now string them together, and answer me this,
Which of them would you be willing to kiss?
Guessed: Beds in Harry's dormitory in Gryffindor Tower.

Thanks, for the guess, Puck!
The answer is not Hagrid's pets. There is a reference to Hagrid in one of the clues, but the answer itself has nothing to do with him.
Keep guessing, please.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
This isn't a guess, but I'm wondering if the rules allow a request for clarification? (Being a Bear of Very Little Brain, I can use all the help I can get.)
If it's OK to ask, is the answer to the first clue literal (an actual character) or figurative (a word or phrase)? For example, when I read the first line, I think of Lily - the shared friend of Severus and James. On the other hand, perhaps the clue doesn't refer to an actual character. (??)

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
For me, I thought of a go-between or a mediator and then I thought of Hermione being the go-between when Harry and Ron were not speaking in GOF....."I'm not an owl!" as she said in the movie. I also thought of Snape as a sort of go-between for Dumbledore and Voldemort. Lily between James and Snape is also an excellent idea. I'm confunded. Don't worry though, I'm used to it.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Lady Arabella, I think it is perfectly OK to ask. (To quote Mona ... I mean Dumbledore - "Help will always be given ..." )
So the answer to the first two lines is a word. These two lines are two clues for the same word, but they refer to different characters (which are supposed to suggest the word). So if you think the first line refers to Lily, then the word you seek might be lily, for example. Ideally, the second line should suggest the same word in a different way. (That, however, would not be the answer to the riddle yet.)
Does that help?
Choices, you are right when you interpret the word friend in a broad sense... as broad as you can (though not necessarily as a mediator).
I really like the ideas of both of you. It is a good approach to the first line to think of opposing characters sharing some sort of friend. If the second line clicks, you have probably solved the first clue.
Keep guessing, please.

Ahh, I kept thinking on the first line as being Moaning Myrtle, as she has helped both Harry and Draco. I think of DD for the second line, but can't fit it to the first.
I think I may have been confunded.
