Things that you would like to see happen...

This topic serves as an archive of a thread from the Harry Potter Lexicon Forum as hosted on World Crossing which ceased operation on April 15, 2011. Elanor

Please post here with your ideas on what you would like to see happen in Book 7 even though you know that it is highly unlikely or even impossible to happen. Any suggestions, no-matter how silly, are welcome.

Some of mine:

1) Aberforth's patronus to be a goat

2) Aunt Marge to marry Colonel Fubster

3) Buckbeak to execute Macnair

4) Dot from Little Hangleton to make another appearance

Good Evans - Aug 17, 2005 11:47 am (#1 of 195)
Practically perfect in every way
I think this is an "anti predictions for book seven" thread. I hope the mods let it stay, what a lark !!!

Ok I would like ......

Dedalus Diggle to become Minister for Magic (what fun the wizarding world would have - he's such a sweetie)

Mr Tibbles to set up home with Mrs Norris

Rita Skeeter to reform and write her own autobiography "beatleing around for a scoop"

Hagrid and Madam Maxine to marry and have giant babies

great fun.... lovely idea for a thread!

Good Evans:- Dedalus Diggle to become Minister for Magic (what fun the wizarding world would have - he's such a sweetie)

I think that's something we won't see, Good Evans. I think JKR has let it be known, without a doubt, that the MOM is run by liars, duplicitous 'persons', and people who would sell their own mothers into slavery as long as it got them a couple more votes - just like most governments, really! What am I smiling for? I meant that!

Go Jays!
I would like to see:

1- Aberforth to become a main character and have it revealed that he was really a master spy all along and much smarter than his brother gives him credit for-- and to find that he prefers the nickname "Abby"

2- Caradoc Dearborn to show up again

3- Dumbledore really is the Giant Squid!

4- Lupin, Tonks, and Bill start a wildly popular rock band named "Werewolves of London"

OR, in the movies: that aforementioned song to play faintly in the background when Lupin enters a scene

5- the phrase "all you need is love" to be said or sung by a good guy when Harry defeats Voldylocks

okay, I better stop before I get way out to lunch...I'll have to think of some slightly more likely ones (although I'm still sticking to #1 no matter what!)

Choices - Aug 18, 2005 5:50 pm (#6 of 195)

*Completely Obsessed With Harry Potter*
OK, things I'd like to see happen - I want Dumbledore to be alive (and I want the old Dumbledore back - while I'm wishing), I want Harry to return to school next year, I want Snape to be a good guy and find love, I want Lupin to be happy and find love, I want Sirius to be able to communicate with Harry, I want the Weasleys to stay like they are, but win the Lottery, I want Hagrid to marry Madame Maxime (although I don't really like her - oh well, as long as Hagrid does, I guess it's OK), I want Luna to have some really good, loyal friends, I want Grandma Longbottom to be so proud of Neville and I want Neville's parents to recover, I want peace for the Wizarding World, I want good to win out over evil and I want JKR to write The Continued Adventures of Harry Potter - His first 7 years after Hogwarts - for starters. I could think of more, but I'll stop here.

Mrs Brisbee - Aug 18, 2005 6:52 pm (#7 of 195)

veil 26 - Aug 18, 2005 7:31 pm (#8 of 195)

Choices, good choices. I think D'dore's alive, anyway, so I want backup for this. I know in my heart that Snape is good and, though I have no hope that he'll find love, I at least want him to live through Book 7 (though I fear he won't--he'll turn over V'mort to Harry and die in the process). I want Lupin and Tonks to marry and have lots of pink-haired tots. I love the portrayal of Molly and Arthur, but they don't need to win the Lottery--they've already raised the devoted Fred and George, who will support them and the rest of the family. Hagrid and Madame Maxime--cute couple, but huge kids, and they'll probably have a half dozen at least. Love Luna, but haven't decided what wonderful thing in life she really deserves. Maybe just a boyfriend/husband who loves her and understands what it's like to be underappreciated (maybe that's Neville--it seemed as though JKR teed that up a bit in Book 6).

Yes, Haymoni, that would be something. Imagine if SHE was the one to come across the werewolf that disfigured her son? The Weasley kids are a talented bunch, I imagine she is a witch to be reckoned with.

I want to see Percy beg for forgiveness.

I want Snape to turn out have been worthy od DD's trust.

I want to see Draco fighting on the side of good.

want to see LV melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.

Okay, so the last horcrux is to be found at the top of the Pillar of Storge; and is none other than the Toenail of Icklibogg, carefully placed in the Kettle of Nackledirk; and carefully guarded by Professor Bicycle holding the green flame torch, with the assistance of Mark Evans - who have a whole army of Crumple Horned Snorkacks with them........................

Yep, I see nothing wrong with that. It all sounds quite plausible to me.......................

Gryffindor
I'm pining for a dragon race. Dumbledore offered Harry a "ladder that turned into snakes". This is a reference to the morality game of "Snakes and Ladders". The Ladders are the virtures, the Snakes the vices. Mazes are made where one has to wend their way through the maze to the virtures. Ok, so I would like to have a race through the Dragon Reserve mentioned in Fantastic Beasts that shows each dragoon is all its glory: The Chinese Fireball, the Swedish Short Snout, the Hungarian Horntail. A game of chance, a chase for the Golden Snidget, through the reserve of a Firebolt. Go Harry!

I'd also like to see F&G develop some DADA tricks that blow up in the users face if used by a bad guy. I really see the twins as a big factor in the last book.

I bet they are quite happy now not to be in the OOP. Having to stand guard duty and take orders that they don't know the "why" of.

Much better off and more productive as free agents.

I agree Dame Peverell...I see Fred and George similar to the character Q in the James Bond films...always around to supply cool gadgets and such for James Bond to use in his missions. Fred and George could begin to supply these kind of items to Harry and company for their fight against LV and the DE's.

T Brightwater - Sep 7, 2005 11:12 am (#27 of 195)

I'd like to see Harry fend off an attack in Little Whinging with Dudley's Smeltings stick, only to discover that the neighborhood bully that he thought he was facing is actually Voldemort in disguise, and that concealed inside the stick is the wand of Rowena Ravenclaw. LV then obligingly topples over and disintegrates a la Saruman.

I'd like to hear the following exchange:

Harry: Would you tell me something, sir? Did you ever have a crush on my mother?

Snape (honestly perplexed): No - what on earth gave you that idea?

Or, alternatively:

Petunia: Harry, just to warn you before you leave, someone who looked a lot like your mother's greasy-haired old boyfriend was asking for you last week. Can't remember the name - Snake? Something like that. He's the one I heard telling her about Dementors.

Or even:

Lupin: Oh, Harry, I forgot to tell you: the other reason Snape hates your guts is that he had a crush on your mother.

(Anything! Anything definite, one way or another! Arrrgh!)

Here is what I would like to see happen in the last book........

The battle is done. Voldemort is dead and Harry meets with Snape after everything has settled down. Harry realizes how much of a sacrifice Snape has made over the years to help in the ultimate defeat of Voldemort. He finally understands why Dumbledore trusted him so much, and how Snape really did not intend for Harry's parents to die. He understands that Snape has never gone for one day without feeling extreme guilt over what happened to Lily and James. In truth, without Snape's help at the last, Harry could have never won his battle against Voldemort.

Here is how I envision Harry's last encounter with Snape.

Snape stared down his long nose at Harry and said nothing.

Harry looks up at him and says, "Professor, I...well, I....."

Snape snarls, "Well, out with it Potter!"

Harry just let the words come out. If he did not say them now, he would never have the courage to do so in the future.

"Well, it was you this whole time, wasn't it? Without your help I could have never defeated Voldemort. You risked your life and saved mine several times. I just want to say...well...thank you. I was wrong about you professor, and I am sorry about it. Very sorry. And professor, what happened with my Mom and Dad...I forgive you professor. After what you just did, I think they would forgive you also."

Harry looked down at this feet then raised his head again to look Snape in the eye. He extended his open hand to his old potions teacher. He held his hand up hoping that Snape would shake it. All the unfair detentions and the unjust punishments he had received from Snape over the years just did not seem to matter that much anymore. Even Snape's actions toward Sirius were not important anymore. It was time for all the hatred and anger of the past to be set aside.

Snape looked hopefully at Harry but then a trace of fear crept into his eyes. He quickly searched Harry's thoughts to see if Harry was setting him up for some sort of cruel joke. Harry allowed the intrusion and eventually Snape saw only sincerity in Harry's mind and heart.

In all the time that Harry had known Snape he had only seen an emotionless gaze on his face, or a face filled with anger and hatred. Now, for the first time Harry saw that face twist as if Severus had been stabbed in the heart.

For a second Harry actually thought that Snape was going to cry. But Snape mastered his emotions with a tremendous effort and quickly returned his face to an emotionless mask.

When he tried to speak, Severus found that there was a large lump in his throat. He quickly coughed to clear it.

Slowly, and with a great deal of hesitation Snape took Harry's hand and shook it. Harry placed his other hand over Severus's and smiled.

"Professor?"

"What Harry?" asked Severus Snape.

"You are no coward." Harry said.

Sevcerus opened his mouth to speak but then he closed it quickly and turned away. He nodded with gratitude and walked away at a brisk pace from the boy who had defeated the Dark Lord.

Harry felt a weight lift from his mind. He did not know if he and Snape would ever be friends. But he felt much better having told the man how he felt.

I want to see Stan Shunpike turn up in the final battle and inflict serious damage onto a death eater or two. That would stick it to the ministry even more: the man they imprisoned as a scapegoat would be somewhat of a hero.

I really hope we haven't seen the last of Stan.

Kerfuffle - Oct 7, 2005 1:12 pm (#36 of 195)

Some random thoughts... I would like to see:

Harry and Voldemort going into the final battle, but still having one horcrux not yet found and destroyed. If the final battle is at Hogwarts, near or in the Forbidden Forest, Harry and Voldemort could be fighting it out, when whizzing out of the forest is an arrow shot by one of the centaurs. The arrow embeds itself in the bottom of Voldemort's foot, thereby destroying part of his sole (soul). Think Achilles, the only vulnerable place on his body was his heel. Voldemort seems invulnerable, but there must be a fatal flaw somewhere.

This could also explain why socks seem so important in the series, unwitting clues about protecting your "soles".

Maybe the socks Dobby knitted for Harry are charmed with extra protection.

Like I said, some random thoughts.

Nice tie-in with the socks, Kerfuffle.

I'd like Voldemort's death to be inadvertent suicide where he tries something on Harry and it rebounds – again. I'd find it hysterically apropos if Voldemort, after going to such extreme measures to ensure death never comes, goofs up and does himself in.
Hmm... I wonder if a wizard could get a Darwin Award?
I had a link to the Darwin Awards here, but decided to remove it since some stories there edge toward creeping over the family friendly line. During the final battle between Harry and Voldemort, Harry is using non-verbal spells. But since he is a horrible Occlumens, Voldemort blocks them. Suddenly, Bellatrix appears behind Voldemort. Harry focuses his mind on an image of some member of the Order or Dumbledore behind Voldemort. He finally is able to clear his mind of the truth, and insert a fake thought. Voldemort sends an AK behind him, and it kills Bellatrix.

I like that scene, Patrick - you should consider expanding it into a fan-fiction story.

Thanks Brightwater. I would really like to see Snape reveal himself as a noble figure in the final book. He sort of represents all the misunderstood, mistreated people in the world who are kicked around by those who are more fortunate.

But then again, we just won't know the truth about Snape until the end.

I do not know if I have the writing skill to expand my little scene into a full story; but I appreciate the words of encouragement.

I want to see Stan Shunpike turn up in the final battle and inflict serious damage onto Rufus Scrimgeour. Well, not really, but I immensly dislike Scrimgeour and want him to go down. Hello everyone _newbie here.

What I really really want. Well I'm almost convinced Sirius isn't dead, so that's what I want the most: not to be disappointed in my hope.

Second? Really?? Well I really want (hey I feel like a kid writing her letter to Santa) to see Sirius fly that motorbike. Oh come on what a lost opportunity if we never get that scene!

And I'd love to see Ludo Bagman revealed as the mean, mean Death Eater he is.

Also Percy asking his father's forgiveness would be welcome.

Dumbledore Lives!!!
This really is like writing to Santa!!

1. I would like Neville to seriously mess up Bellatrix and have fun doing it.

2. To see Mrs. Weasley just explode on a group of DE.

3. I have a stong feeling that Voldy is going to live, but will be kissed by a former Azkaban prison guard. This is a tribute to DD, "There are some things worse than death" and it allows LV to have his immortality that he wants so bad.

4. Severus turns out to be ok, but Harry smacks him anyway just for being a jerk over the last six years. (They can be friends after that).

5. Finally and most importantly....I want Jo to let Harry go to Auror school so the series doesn't have to end with book 7!!!!

Wow, lots of people want Neville to get a couple Crucio's at Bellatrix! Of course, that would be justice, but one of JKR's themes is doing what's right, not what makes you feel good/happy/whatever. So: I'd like Neville to have an opportunity to torture Bellatrix, maybe on the verge of actually performing the curse. But I want him to not do it, to realize it's wrong: wrong to hurt anyone in that way and even more wrong to hurt himself by performing something so unspeakable. (I hope Harry will figure this out too.) So, instead of an Unforgivable, Neville makes sure she gets a cell in Azkaban for the rest of her miserable life. There's a difference between Good people and Bad people, and that's what they are willing to do and how they are willing to do it. Neville is not evil. I want him to make the right choice.

As Harry said, this is all Voldy's fault - what happened to his parents and what happened to the Longbottoms.

However, Emily, I am sure that you are right. Neville is far better than I and would take the high road.

Not as satisfying, but I can't argue the point. Doing what is "right" is very important. That said, I wouldn't exactly chase away a couple of dementors that wanted to give Bellatrix, Greyback, or voldy a little kiss...

Maddest Dragon - Dec 4, 2005 2:48 pm (#61 of 195)

I want to see:

Detailed explanation of the communication between DD and Aunt Petunia, and what really happened to the rest of Harry's relatives. Harry has the right to know--and, somehow it fits very well with his coming of age. Perhaps Petunia could give him Dumbledore's letters, letters from Lily, etc. (assuming she's kept them) for his seventeenth birthday.

Ron really shining at something Harry isn't good at, and being widely recognized for it, instead of playing second fiddle to Harry as he so often does.

An ending to the story that ties up all the loose ends and completely satisfies.

Above all, happiness for Harry, who's suffered enough as it is (and it's likely not over yet).

- - - - - - - - - -
Honour - Dec 4, 2005 5:20 pm (#62 of 195)

Only Ron seems to think that he is playing second fiddle to Harry, if its not Harry he feels inadequate to its his brothers and his place in the pecking order of the Weasley family. I hope JKR gives Ron a bit more oomph! for the 7th book. His character was developing quite nicely in the first book, he was funny and brave in the second, from there he became stunted, was whiny in the third, an immature and jealous toad in the 4th, became whiny again in the 5th, and background noise in the 6th, so like I said I hope he gets a bit more attention from JKR in the next book.

When the two worlds get so intertwined that there's no use trying to keep them separate any longer, and Vold loses the soul he doesn't deserve anyway because he abused it so badly, I'd love to see all the muggles spontaneously get magical abilities, everyone becomes immortal if they want to be, and the whole world is one happy magical place. What I would really like to see is the final battle with Voldy on one side and Harry and Snape on the other. Well, there might be some DEs and some members of the OotP as well, but the most important would be the collaboration between Harry and Snape. They should come to some genial ideas, feeling like they were reading each other mind and predicting the moves of the other. Or maybe Harry thinking something and Snape doing it. At the end they would be so satisfied with the fact that they succeeded to defeat Voldemort and that they were such a good team that they couldn't resist doing the "Gimme five" thing. Only after that they would become aware that there is something odd about that, but that would be too late, the bond would become too strong... Maybe Harry would even invite Snape to be the best man on his wedding...

Narcissa: I only want a garden salad. Some of us have a figure....

Lucuis: 20 House Elf Nuggets with mayo! Quickly, Muggle! *Imperio*

Peter: I want a hippogriff burger with extra cheeeeeeeeese! *drool*

Narcissa: Dressing!! Are you an imbesil? *CRUCIO!*

I want Neville to be alive, and well, and finally know he's braver than he thinks.

I wnat to know where Tonks and Lupin are going to build the kennel for the puppies.

I want to know if Harry and all of his friends are actually going to gang up on Voldemort and use some wizarding version of the care bear stare to kill him. I'd rather see him knocked head first into that jar of time and turned into a baby again, to live his life over and see if he can do better the next time. I saw that idea on FAP and I liked it.

What I would really like to see is Snape proving his loyalty to Harry (without sacrificing his life in the process), Harry saving Snape's life at least once, and then Snape dying heroically and in the process proving his loyalty to the rest of the Order.

I also want the Hogwarts house elves to play a larger role. This has been in the back of my mind since OotP, when I saw the chapter title "Dumbledore's Army" and thought it might refer to the house elves.

Finally, I'd like to find out what that potion did to Dumbledore.

I wonder if you can pre-program the things you want your portrait to be able to say. Since 'Wizard portraits are not living or thinking entities, they are only a "distillation" of the real person. This "aura" can give advice or repeat catchphrases but not much more.' Jo

I was hoping DD could program his to give the truths to the questions that Harry has not asked yet.

Magic Words - Mar 11, 2006 7:06 pm (#103 of 195)

One thing I've been wondering for a while is whether the portraits can remember what happened to them when they were alive. I got the impression Phineas Nigellus could, but his opinions might just be ideas he's picked up since his portrait was hung in the office.

Okay, here goes.

1. I want Sirius back as well. What a man! 2. I want (as I have mentioned in another thread) the Ford Anglia to come back in the last book. Possibly running over LV and killing the last bit of him.

3. I want Neville to be strong and confident 4. I want Ginny and Harry to live happily ever after. 5. I want Harry and Ron to stop whining so much. It's like watching Anakin in the second prequel of Star Wars.

6 and Finally, I want Dudley and Vernon to end up as piggies in a wizard petting zoo.

I would like the twist at the end of book 7 to be as fabulous as the ones in books 3, 4, and 6. I want my jaw to be left flapping in the wind at what amazing writing the end of the book was. That's my first and most prevalent wish.

If I can have everything I want, then I want:

-Harry alive and happy.

-Ron and Hermione to quit bickering and kiss already.

-Moody to have a bigger role.

-Harry and Lupin to finally get as close as they were in book 3.

-Neville to smite the shenanigans out of Bellatrix.

-Professor McGonagoll to smite the shenanigans out of someone. Anyone. Draco maybe?

-"Gred and Forge" to USE shenanigans to smite Dolohov for wiping out uncles "Fideon and Gabian" Prewett. That's my pet theory. hehe..

-Luna to steal Rita Skeeter's job.

-Umbridge to become a scribe like Percy was for the Ministry...only she can only use HER OWN pen.

-Trelawney to find out that she IS a seer so she stops faking.

-Grawp to smoosh Macnair. Disposal of dangerous creatures indeed.

Oh I can think of more, but I'd be here all night!!

Mrs Brisbee - Feb 2, 2007 5:07 am (#106 of 195)

Well, with the release date set, and the final book mere months away, that's it. There are hundreds of little things I would like the answers to or better explanations for, but there is only so much room in a book. I have resigned myself to disappointment as far as that's concerned. But here is my wish list for things Rowling might still find room to include-- but may not:

The Mystery of Fawkes. This is the big one that I'd most like an answer to. Fawkes connects Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Harry. Why? And what exactly is the mature of his connection to Dumbledore?

What happened to all of Lily's friends? By the time Harry was born she didn't even have someone she would pick for a godmother. Did Voldemort kill them all?

McGonagall to do something truly amazing, or become a great headmistress. Since her great introduction in PS/SS, I've been waiting....

Some really meaty stuff about all the Founders, because this whole mess started with them. There's a good possibility I might get this one, but who knows?

Susan Bones to do something truly amazing, and not to die. Why? I'm still irked Madam Bones was killed. And the whole Bones family has been hit hard. And as much as I like Ernie Macmillan, I wish Rowling had chosen someone else for the "face" of Hufflepuff in HBP-- I think he was the only Hufflepuff character to get much print in HBP. Judging by that, I would guess he is to be the major Hufflepuff character in DH. I'd like to see some of the others.

The return of the DA! I might actually get this one, but I'm not holding my breath over it.

journeymom - Feb 2, 2007 11:57 am (#107 of 195)

Definitely, Harry alive and happy and normal.

I'd like to find out that Eileen Prince became Irma Pince. It might be neat to find that Alice Longbottom's maiden name was Prince.

I'd like to see Fenrir get it, and Umbridge officially charged by the Ministry.

Something I hope we don't see - the search for every single last one of the remaining horcruxes. If I have to sit through - what is it? four more? - sequences like getting through the cave, getting on the boat, somebody getting hurt, getting back to Hogwarts . . . I'm going to expire from sheer boredom.

Pamzter :"If I have to sit through - what is it? four more? - sequences like getting through the cave, getting on the boat, somebody getting hurt, getting back to Hogwarts . . . I'm going to expire from sheer boredom"

I sympathise! So I will like to discover that Voldemort has a (hidden and well hidden) residence, from his early years, which he had used as a laboratory for his horcrux experiencing. And that, fearing for the destruction of the remaining Horcruxes, he will succeed in gathering them in that residence.

So Harry's quest will be a quest of the past years of Tom Riddle/Voldemort, the lost years... Looking for old classmates, teachers, colleagues (at B and B)... of Tom. And no boredom !

I got it, John. That is very, very funny if one has a particular type of sense of humour (which obviously we both have).

Something I'd like to see JKRowling write some backstories for more of her secondary HP characters. I'd love a book of short stories about characters like Luna, Dean Thomas, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Gideon and Fabian Prewett, and maybe Lucius Malfoy. And the Founders. Actually, the Founders story could make up a whole book by itself.

And Snape's story. Definitely.

I'd like to see books encompassing full background and side stories of all the important characters, and I think it would also be very fun to see a TV production of the seven books without the edits that have been necessary for the movies. A big plus would be to include many of these background and side stories in that production.

I would like to have an answer to the question: Why is Trevor always escaping?
To answer to this silly question, I will propose a (silly) clue, by a combination of two of my last messages:
First one here “Steve Newton: From the Lexicon Bestiary, the Basilisk "is born from a chicken's egg, hatched beneath a toad."
LL: A very good association! And a really funny one, if that could be the answer to the enigma about Trevor, which is: Why this toad is always trying to escape ?”
Second one there “PatPat : Yeah, Luna, I'm curious about Poudlard also. Enlighten us please!
LL: Poudlard is the translated name (in French) of Hogwarts. Hogsmead is « Pré au Lard » which I could translate in return as « The Meadow of the Bacon » ! Poudlard would be an association of "lard" (bacon) and Pou … beginning of “poule” perhaps - (poule = hen)…
Pat Pat: I love seeing those translations, as I'm always wondering if there are clues hidden there.

I can only give you a silly clue, PatPat:
Hen – Chicken …. Chicken + Toad : The Basilic?
Then we could have this answer in Book 7: Trevor is always escaping, trying to find chicken (among hens) in “Poudlard”, to fulfill a great destiny! (not a good joke in English I must admit )

In the final confrontation, when Voldemort or a horcrux is about to get Harry and it looks really grim, Snape and Harry make eye contact, and for a split second, indecision, fear, and then Snape does it! He does something that could very well indicate that he was on the right side all along.

No I do not wish Snape harm, but I do like the ambiguity and I think JK will either never come flat out "Snape is good" or once he reveals himself, he will die.

That would be so cool if JKR wrote it "Indiana Jones" style. Harry has just battled his way through a roomful of DE's. He emerges successful, but exhausted. Out of the shadows pops another bad guy, wand at the ready. "Ha-ha, Harry! Now you're mine. Cruci..."

Harry shoots the DE an exasperated look, digs into his robe pocket, pulls out a pistol and pow.

OK, I'm done with my very sillycross-over fantasy, but not a bad idea, Vox.

Things to look forward to in Book Seven. Hmmm...

1. Harry lives- mostly happily
2. Forge and Gred entangle Voldemort in the book he can never stop reading. Or they give him a Ton-Tongue Toffee so he chokes to death.
3. Bellatrix ends up like Lockhart- her memory blasted by a well-aimed charm from Neville
4. All the Malfoys' money is confiscated and given to the Weasleys
5. Ron/Hermione end up producing a large brood of argumentative chessmaster bookworms (all fans of the Chudley Cannons, naturally)
6. Luna brings a pet Crumple-Horned Snorkak to Hogwarts graduation
7. Dudley's gang meets the D.A. In the dark alley where they beat up Mark Evans...

More to follow.

Hi,

1. Harry and Ginny to settle down, have a family and enjoy long, healthy and productive lives.

2. Ron and Hermione, the same.

3. Neville find a herbilogical (or is that an herbacious?) cure for his parents and, perhaps even Lockheart.

4. Snape to be resolved, not necessarily as a good guy, but not a bad one either.

5. Harry to find relatives either on the Potter or the Evans side of the family.

6. LV to be vanguished in such a manner that Harry does not have to commit murder or perform an Unforgivable Curse.

7. A good ending for Dobby, Winky and even Kreacher. Since it is his wish, Kreacher's head should hang on the wall at 12GP. Perhaps Dobby and Winky could tend Harry and Ginny's home. Who knows, the pitter patter of tiny human feet may intertwine with those of tiny elfs.

8. The seventh book end in such a way that JKR could continue to write stories of the Magical World which could include all the friends we have made in this wonderful heptology.

Hey, call me an old softy, but I'm a sucker for a good ending!

Bye 4 now.

Ok here's my wild theory for the day: Harry is a Horcrux, he has a bit of LV's soul inside him. Harry is attacked by a Dementor - and it sucks out voldemort's soul instead of Harry's - so Harry is Voldemort free and a piece of soul is destroyed all in one go - yay!

My other theory is that Harry isn't a Horcrux, and in fact the final Horcrux hasn't been made yet because Voldy wants to finish the process with Harry's - and only Harry's - murder. That would be symbolic enough for him I reckon, and in his mind he would be making himself absolutely invincible in one stroke.

CF, your first theory is very creative and I like it! But the second seems really possible to me....it would be like LV to be so self-confident --and to so underestimate Harry-- and in that practically kill himself....um, somehow. Because LV MUST die ad Harry CAN'T die.

Columbine Fairy - Jun 20, 2007 7:14 pm (#150 of 195)

hmmm... good question. If he had succeeded at the graveyard then he could have used Nagini. He hadn't intended to be at the ministry so he may not have had anything planned. My thinking would be either he has something he carries around with him in the case of bumping into (and disposing of) Harry, or if that happened he could just use whatever was at hand. For example, at the ministry he could have used one of the statues in the fountain.

Harry does refer to Snape as 'Professor Snape' of his own accord when speaking to teachers other than Dumbledore.

In HBP, to Slughorn, "I've got a detention with Professor Snape."

And my favourite, in COS, after he disarms Lockhart, "Shouldn't have let Professor Snape teach us that one," said Harry furiously...

EDIT:

If Harry says anything akin to "Severus, please," I will cry for a solid week!(Jennifler)

I want Lupin to face Pettigrew and give him his comeuppance for betraying all the Marauders. Unfortunately, Peter never got to face James and Sirius, who were supposed to be his friends and whose lives he ruined and ended, so Lupin will have to take their place.

Well, Peter did face Sirius (and Lupin) in the shrieking shack.... As he is the one who's now directly responsible for Voldemort's return, he should be facing Harry. Then again, that also happened in the shack, so he should probably die while doing something for the good side.

Alas, Legolas, she has no soul ... or heart! Oops! I see TBE beat me to the punch. It's nice to know we agree. Actually, I think she should have to use her own nasty, evil quill to write out her offenses against Harry and the others she has harmed over the years. About Peter ... I want HIM to give Harry the information necessary to save himself. Perhaps he will tell Harry what the other Horcruxes are and where they are hidden. After all, that magical debt has yet to kick in, and his time is running out to repay it.

I don't think we have any evidence, but...the Marauders would probably not have associated with anybody from Slytherin, Peter's not really smart enough to be in Ravenclaw, and he certainly isn't loyal, which is a Hufflepuff trait. Unless you count being loyal to the Dark Lord, but even Voldemort doesn't believe that.

Hagsquid - Jul 16, 2007 8:47 am (#184 of 195)

This is me listening to OoP for the umteenth time.
I don't see why they wouldn't associate with *anyone* from Slytherin. Sirius' brother Regulas was from Slytherin. I imagine they associated with him.

Plus, most of us feel quite heartily about the idea that Snape and Lilly were good friends. There's even canon evidence to support the theory in that they both excelled at potions, and were both likely in the Slug Club. I know this doesn't say that the Mauraders would have associated with Slytheryn crowd, but it's worth noting.

- - - - - - - - - -
Veritaserum - Jul 16, 2007 3:08 pm (#185 of 195)

Go Jays!
Lily seems to be a more open person all around, whereas while James was quite popular, I'd think he'd choose his close friends more carefully. It also doesn't sound like Sirius was very close to his brother, so even if they associated, I don't know if they would be considered "friends." Not the way Ron and Harry hang out with Ginny, for instance.

Edit: plus, if Peter was a Slytherin, people would probably have been less surprised to see his treachery or more suspicious of him all around. For instance, Sirius didn't know Snape was a Death Eater, but didn't have a hard time believing it; but nobody believed Peter could have been the mole, which was why they had chosen him for Secret Keeper. If he had been in the same house with Snape, they might be more cautious about making that kind of decision.

I know this is all speculation, but I'm taking this from the way I read Sirius and James, in particular their extreme dislike for Slytherins and that kind of pureblood/Dark Arts mentality.

The Lexicon states that Peter most likely was in Gryffindor, but says we just do not know for certain. I agree that he was in Gryffindor - it is difficult to make friends from other houses simply because you do not spend much time socializing with those outside your own house. You eat with your house, you usually study and socialize in your house common room, you usually sit with members of your house in classes, etc. I don't think we have seen many instances where people from different houses have been friends - Luna is the only one I can think of and she is more an aquaintance than a real friend. To do what they did - create a map, become animagi, run with Lupin when he transformed, I think they would have had to spend a lot of time together and so I think they must have all been in the same house. Just my opinion.....

I agree about Peter likely being in Gryffindor, but I just want to point out that there are a number of examples of people associating with or dating people from other houses: Percy (Gryffindor) and Penelope (Ravenclaw); Cho (Ravenclaw) and Cedric (Hufflepuff); Harry (Gryffindor) and Cho (Ravenclaw); Ginny (Gryffindor) and Michael Corner (Ravenclaw)...and that's just off the top of my head. Notice there doesn't seem to be much fraternizing with Slytherin that we're aware of...hmm.

I agree Mediwitch, but I think Quidditch and being Prefects and special activities are the cause of most of these pairings. Percy and Penelope were Prefects, Ginny met Michael at the Yule Ball, Cedric and Cho and Harry all play Quidditch. I wonder if they would have met or become involved had it not been for these special activities bringing them together.

Sirius' brother Regulas was from Slytherin. I imagine they associated with him.

Somehow, I get the idea that Regulus and Sirius were not all that close. I mean, Sirius seemed to spend a lot of his out-of-school time with the Potters and Uncle Alphard, and his only mention of Regulus is in connection with the DEs and Voldemort. JM2K, though ...

What I want from DH:

Neville to nail Bellatrix - he doesn't have to kill her; only stun her for the Aurors to pick up later, or to blow her back over a cliff or into a rock and snap her neck, or something similarly unforeseeable that causes her death.

Harry to live. If Ginny dies, then Harry/Luna.

Ron/Hermione.

Buckbeak to kill Kreacher (and eat his body only, so his head can be mounted at 12 Grimmauld Place as he wished).

Not Lupin, but Crookshanks, to kill Wormtail.

Umbridge to either die horribly, or worse. Certainly to be called to account (how strongly do you have to cast Sectumsempra before it's fatal?).

Part of me wants Snape to be evil, just so Harry can be right about things for a change.

Lupin to kill Greyback. And marry Tonks.

Dumbledore's Army to come in and save the day, redeeming itself for its failure to show in HBP, and clear Harry's way through for the final confrontation.

Harry to clear the air with the Dursleys. Them to know a moment of pants-wetting terror as they realize that Harry can now do magic. On them. I would like Petunia and maybe even Dudley to apologize for all they have done, but I don't think Vernon really can.

Draco to eat humble pie and accept responsibility (and crawl on his knees) for all he has done. And to be proved to be a DE.

Harry to finish the battle totally in control of the situation at last. I want him to call Voldemort "Tom" the way that Dumbledore did. And I want him to go back to that portrait at the end and tell it that the job is done.

Muggle Doctor, I agree all those things would make for a very satisfying book (except for the Snape part - I want him to be good. LOL). :-)

Crookshanks killing Wormtail would be funny.

Part of me wants Snape to be evil, just so Harry can be right about things for a change.

He was right about Draco Malfoy. (I know how you feel, though, it always irritates me how characters who insist on something all throughout a story almost always end up being wrong.)

And I want him to go back to that portrait at the end and tell it that the job is done.

That would be so moving! Or sititng at his parents grave saying, "I did it, Mum. Thank you."

Here's what I would like to see happen:

1. Harry gets a vital clue when he visits his parents' grave.

2. Something big happens at Bill and Fleur's wedding but not tragic.

3. Harry gets revenge on the Dursleys by scaring them and then walks out the door with a "Ha ha!" attitude.

4. Harry and co. return to Hogwarts because they realise that not to would be to alert Voldemort that they are up to something. But the teachers cut the trio some slack with school work and help give them plenty of time to work on finding the Horcruxes (and allow them to discreetly leave the school when necessarily).

5. At least one Horcrux is hidden at Hogwarts.

6. Neville spectacuarly catches Belatrix and is responsible for her returning to Azkaban.

7. Draco puts his pride aside and asks the Order for protection. Lucius dies and Narcissa reforms.

8. Wormtail repays his life debt to Harry and Voldemort kills him in anger.

9. Voldemort tries to take the school as he never could before when Dumbledore was there, and the final battle happens there.

10. Voldemort flies into a rage when Harry kills Nagini because, as Dumbledore said, he is as fond of her as he can be of anything. This will be the closest we ever see Voldemort come to grief.

11. Harry kills Voldemort by some other means than the killing curse but is seriously wounded in the process. Snape heals him.

12. Harry and Ginny get back together, Ron and Hermione get together and Lupin and Tonks stay together.

13. Harry takes a while to recover from the ordeal but eventually starts to perk up. He will always have mental scars (because J.K. is far too realistic to make him 100% okay) but he learns to live with them and be happy. After helping the wizarding world rebuild he decides against a career as an Auror as he is sick to the teeth of Dark Wizards and instead plays Quidditch (for the Chudley Canons, of course, Ron would kill him if he chose anyone else).

14. But of course the ending needs to have some kind of unexpected twist that NO ONE foresaw. As long as Harry and Ron survive and are at least relatively happy I'll be okay.

Love your suggestions Liz. The above would make me very happy too.

He was right about Snape as well. On the surface it looks like Snape is a death eater still.

Muggle Doctor: "I want him to call Voldemort "Tom" the way that Dumbledore did."

Oh my gosh, I get chills thinking of that. I would let out a cheer if Harry does that!

Edit: It would be great if Harry got to play professional Quidditch. How rewarding.

I, too, would like Neville to be heroic. Please let there be a magical reason for his terrible memory and let him to have enough love and support around him to be able to pull off some great magic. I would also like to hear more about great-uncle Algie, the mimbulous mimbletonia, and Trevor the toad. I'm sad to expect Pomona Sprout to die, but I'm thinking Neville will be a teacher at Hogwarts. I'm hoping that it is "after a number of years" rather than right away, so Professor Sprout can live.

I would like to revisit the shack by the sea where Harry and the Dursleys were hiding when Hagrid came to get Harry and for Harry to recover Sirius' motorcycle somewhere. I'd be dancing around the room like a maniac of happiness if the motorcycle were at the shack.

I want Luna to live and to be paired with someone. I don't care which ship she sails on, as long as she has someone. I would like to see her interacting with Remus, not as a match of course, but as someone who could possibly help him. I would like at least one of her and her father's wacky theories to be right.

I want Ron to be in command of spiders somehow. I think that Fred and George are unusually perceptive and that turning the teddy into a spider was not a coincidence. Besides, it would be conquering his own worst fear. I hope that he performs well and that his own ending allows him to not be poor anymore, as his hatred of being poor has been his true weakness for much too long.

I want to learn about Lily. I'm absolutely deprived of any real information about Lily.

The horcrux search should take us inside Hogwarts, in the Forest, and to the orphanage. I would also be pleased if Harry follows his own paths about growing up in his search so that we get the Dursleys, Godric's Hollow, the Shack by the Sea, and perhaps some places he lived with his parents.

I want Pettigrew to show some sort of mercy to Harry. Also, I want Pettigrew to kill a werewolf or something with that nasty hand of his. Snape also should show his true colors, one way or the other. I am thinking good to some degree.
