5. Is the magical thing owned by a student? (That is, Harry or a contemporary of Harry, not a past student who is an adult during book-time.) No.

7. Do we see it in the first book? No.
8. Is the person who owns this thing someone who supports Harry--who is "on his side"? Yes.
9. Is it owned by someone who is (or was) a Hogwarts professor? Yes.
10. Does Snape own it? Yes.
11. Is this thing a tangible object? No.
12. Is it something we see in the first half of the book? I'll say no (but I may be wrong).
13. Do we see it somewhere between chapters 19-25? Somewhere around there, yes.
14. Is it Snape's doe Patronus? YES!!! Congratulations, Solitaire!

I think the doe first shows up right in the middle of the book - it's in the middle of Chapter 19 (so it's after 18 chapters and a half), and DH consists of 36 chapters and the Epilogue. It was difficult to decide whether it was in the first half of the book or not!

2. Is it an abstract concept? In essence, it is an abstract concept. Magic can make it somewhat less abstract.
3. Is this thingy first mentioned in an odd-numbered book? Yes.
4. Is it mentioned in more than one book? A part of it only.
5. Is it mentioned in the first book? No.
6. Is it a "lesson" or "philosophy" about something that Dumbledore imparts to Harry? No, but you are thinking in the good direction!
7. Is it mentioned in Dumbledore's office? Yes, absolutely, but not only there. (I interpret "mentioned" as 'mentioned in the book', not necessarily by a character.)
8. Is it first mentioned in PoA? No.
9. Is it an idea or concept told to Harry by another person? Something like that.
10. Just to be sure, is it first mentioned in HBP? No.
11. Does this have anything to do with a Pensieve? Yes, everything.
12. Is it a memory that Harry sees while looking into a Pensieve? Yes, if you change one small detail in your question.

I thought 'memories' would be a good choice for the last game in the old place... :ooh: But it was a bit difficult to give simple yes and no answers. Are a magical person's memories (removed from his head, viewed in a Pensieve even after the person's death) - magical? Are they abstract? Memories are, but in HP they can be - sort of - tangible... Where are they first mentioned? We see all of them (the ones Snape gave to Harry) in DH for the first time, but in OotP, one of them is already mentioned. And of course, the "small detail" was the plural instead of the singular.
