Please choose the two wizarding beverages you would most like to try.

1) Butterbeer....warm and in a tall mug, or chilled in a bottle

2) Gillywater

3) Ogden's Best Fire Whiskey...just a thimbleful...it's strong stuff, you know!

4) ice cold pumpkin juice

5) tea....one lump, or two?

6) Rosmerta's mulled mead

7) Elf-made blood-red wine

Edited to add the beginnining and ending dates for this poll in the title, for uniformity's sake.

1) Butterbeer tops the list. I've been wanting to try it ever since I first heard of it

Now I can't decide between elf-made wine and fire whiskey. They both sound great!

OK, 7)Elf-made wine.

1 and 6 sound good to me .

Well I drink tea all the time anyway, and I've never been a big fan of red wine. So, my choices would be

1) Butterbeer

2) Gillywater (McGonagall drinks it so it must be cool!)

Elanor - Mar 29, 2009 5:05 am (#4 of 36)

6) Rosmerta's mulled mead

7) Elf-made blood-red wine

(I'd try them all though if I could... )

1) Butterbeer .... Mmmmm, butterbeer

6) Rosmerta's mulled mead

(I had wanted to go for the elf-made wine, but I'd probably be attacked by S.P.E.W. for it!)

1) warm Butterbeer on a cold day

6) Rosemerta's mulled mead

I've always thought that pumpkin juice sounds like it would be disgusting!

1 and 2 - Butterbeer and Gillywater. I'm intrigued to know exactly what Gillywater is.

So am I so I guessed it. It must taste cool and refreshing like rescue drops. Pumpkin juice - yeuch. The worst thing about the HP series - the thought that the poor children sit at these delightful feasts and get nothing to drink except disgusting pumpkin juice! I agree that pumpkins are an old fairytale item but a rare berry juice would have been quite as exotic and much more delectable.

Butterbeer and Gillywater. I've always imagined that Gillywater tastes a bit like a gin and tonic, and I love a gin and tonic once in a while.

I've already posted my choices, but I just couldn't resist sharing that I've tasted pumpkin juice. Well, it was marketed as mango juice and it did taste of mangoes. However, I was told after I'd finished my glass of it that it mainly consisted of pumpkin!

As in the past, this poll will run for two weeks, ending Sunday, April 12. But one (or two) new polls will start this week --and run for 2 weeks-- so hopefully we will have a new poll each week. At least, that's the plan!

While cruising the archives of the Votes thread I came across a poll that had been closed but not tallied. Kip gave me permission to tally it up, so....check out the "Rank the Seven Books" thread to see the results.

Great work, freshwater! There were too many good things to choose. But I wonder why people chose tea because everybody knows what tea tastes like! I would like to know what's the difference between elf-made wind and ordinary wine, and what exactly is Gillywater, and whether fire-whiskey tastes different from muggle whiskey... BTW didn't JKR say that Butterbeer tastes like butterscotch? Brrrrrr! Sweet beer???

Thanks for the "thanks", PAH, and thanks for the confetti, Orion!

I've always thought of Butterbeer as being a lot like rootbeer, but with a warm, buttery taste...sort of like a smooth hot apple cider. Yum!

journeymom - Apr 15, 2009 11:06 am (#28 of 36)

There's a recipe floating around on the net for butterbeer, 1 part butterscotch Schnapps to 7 parts cream soda. Sounds like a small serving served very cold over ice would be nice.

azi - Apr 15, 2009 11:11 am (#29 of 36)

I do think of butterbeer as tasting like butterscotch actually! I've never been able to quite put my finger on the taste I imagined, but now I can.
