So they might starve to death, but at least they will never die of thirst. I wonder if it's possible to conjure other liquids, or if they would be covered under Gamp's Law (never going to forget that one! ) We know it's possible to re-fill bottles of wine, but does there have to have been some wine there in the first place? So actually all you're doing is increasing the quantity of what's already there. So many questions!

I think Hermione says that it's possible to increase the amount of food if there is some in the first place. I can imagine that conjured water or magically increased food may not be as wholesome as natural food and drink, but it may help for a while. (Harry magically refills Slughorn's goblet - as well as Hagrid's - with wine in HBP, and we know that both Slughorn and Hagrid get drunk.) I don't think you can conjure, for example, milk using aguamenti, but we do see Dumbledore apparently conjure various drinks - though he may only summon them simply from where they are. The Hogwarts kitchen seems like a good source, especially if it is only the Headmaster's privilage to summon Hogwarts food; or perhaps he summons them from his own office or room.

LOL, I didn't realize they were all going to drink from the same goblet! Then again, it's probably Sirius who has been hungry and thirsty for the longest time.

- So to summarize their situation: they all have had something to drink, two of them have eaten as well, and they all need to rest a bit during the day, since all three of them are nocturnal birds now, one way or another. But perhaps they will move away from clearings and forest paths.

Good summary Julia. I think we just need to get Sirius something to eat and then you're right, they should probably rest until nightfall.

Phew! That was getting to be a long sentence, but didn't go at all in the direction I thought it was heading! I checked, and the mushrooms are edible (but I'm sure you already knew that, Julia ) so I presume he's going to eat them.

Hi, Verity!
LOL, I'm curious now: Where did you think the sentence was heading? Anyway, I guess a fairy ring (of mushrooms) in a story about magical people has potantial that goes beyond a good meal - it depends on us!
By the way, is this absolutely correct: a fairy ring of St. Georges mushrooms were growing? Should it be plural?

- Oh, I've been wanting to tell you that there has been a fancy dress party recently at my school and I went there dressed up as Professor Sprout!I checked, and the mushrooms are edible (but I'm sure you already knew that, Julia...

Well, back when I posted 'before too long' I was thinking that he'd soon be sitting down to a meal of some kind, and then when we got to 'with the help of a few spells, Sirius...' I thought for sure he was going to get some food. But, it seems he had other plans. He must be a real fan of mushrooms!
I hope there's a photo of you as Professor Sprout, Julia! That sounds like a lot of fun. Were there any other Harry Potter characters at the party?
I debated whether to go with 'was' since ring is not plural, only the mushrooms are plural, but I think you are right. I've changed it now.

LOL, since one can't conjure food, I thought the useful spells would help Sirius find some! He must be used to eating mushrooms and wild plants since he's been wandering in Britain for almost a year. Of course, he could try hunting as well.
A colleague of mine took pictures of me as Prof. Sprout, but I haven't seen them yet. (I was wearing my dress robes with a tall, pointed witch's hat and a pair of pink, flowery earmuffs; and I had a wand and a flower.) The party was a lot of fun. Many of my colleagues had very imaginative, creative and funny costumes. I was the only HP character though.
