Reposting Trials and Tribulations (re: John's and Mona's notes)
John, glad to help re: 'Wold'. On the other issue ("#Name?"), I must confess, I will not have time to look through your reposted posts to catch that error... maybe other forum members can be enlisted to read your threads, with a request from you on the Chat thread?
Mona, I will email you that Snape Word doc when I get home as it is on my other laptop. And that is strange re: what FIND/REPLACE won't FIND/REPLACE. The nerve!

Update on the threads I have reposted so far
PaH:
Well, in a way (that is, when you don't have to deal with the trouble it creates of course), that's a comforting thought: even great as it is, a computer will never be as good as a magic wand.
I have reposted several other threads since I last posted my list. Here they are:
Hogwarts Students During the Harry Potter Years
EL, Neville Longbottom, Hogwarts Students During the Harry Potter Years, Y
EL, Pansy Parkinson, Hogwarts Students During the HP Years, Y
EL, Theodore Nott, Hogwarts Students During the HP Years, Y
EL, Neville. [short thread], Hogwarts Students During the Harry Potter Years, Y
Hogwarts Staff Members Past and Present
EL, Professor Quirrell, Hogwarts Staff Members Past and Present, Y
I have posted the two Neville threads in the same thread, explaining that there were two of them at first in the header (I hope what I have written is clear enough).
I was about to start reposting more but all my remaining threads (and that's a lot, lol!) should be placed in folders not yet created, but hopefully they will be soon.
About the message in the header, that's a good idea. I am posting in the threads I repost the one John had given as an example once. Btw Mona, I noticed just this afternoon there was a couple typos in that sentence I had never noticed (not the ones you had noticed PaH, it must be a difference sentence) but they're still in the document I sent you.

Elanor's list of Reposted Threads
Hi Elanor, Thanks for your list! I'll go update it now.
Could all archivists do me a favor? Rather than have these 'Reposted Threads' updates being sprinkled liberally through this thread, could each of you designate one post as the 'updated list' post, which I can link in the header page for easy reference for both you and me? And then each time you update the list, use a line of -------- or [*hr] to separate different sections?
I'm going to post Elanor's updated lists as an example. Elanor, please repost your list as one of your own posts, with your own avatar. Then, I'll put the link of that post in the header section. (I'll change the one there now.) Thanks!

No problem PaH!
Do you want it to show the "√" marks or would you prefer it to look like the list I first posted? For now I've left the "updated" marks in the list, but I can edit and delete them.

While awaiting new Archived from WX folders...
While awaiting new Archived WX folders on the Main Page, everyone who's ready to repost a thread that belongs in a yet unmade folder can just create that thread in the existing 'Archiving Threads From World Crossing' folder and then move it into the correct folder once Denise creates it. If folks are anxious about moving folders... don't be! It's pretty easy and hard to make a mistake. If you're still anxious about trying to move anything, I'm happy to do that. Just let me know via a note here.
Happy reposting!

Re: Efforts to Archive WX Threads
Thanks for adding the ticks to my post, PAH. I had no idea how to do them.

Adding checks/ticks to your list of reposted threads...
No problem, Mona!
I just want to clarify something, tho'. The checks/ticks are something I add to your (all the archivists') lists after I've actually updated the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. This way, I can actually keep track of what I've updated and what I haven't. If you folks start including them in your updates, I'll have no way of keeping track of what's already been included and what hasn't. See what I mean? So checkless/tickless updates are preferred... thanks!
Maybe the folders we need will Apparate soon? (hint, hint Denise)

Re: Efforts to Archive WX Threads
I am sorry I've been AWOL the last few weeks, but I've been swamped at work. Hopefully things are settling down and I should be able to start re-posting by the end of the week. I'll have to go back and read through all the instructions to see if I can figure out the brave new thread world !
Mona, if you still want the Snape threads, I will email them to you.

Very cute baby pics, LA and PAH!
I just want to clarify something, tho'. The checks/ticks are something I add to your (all the archivists') lists after I've actually updated the Tables of Archived Threads. ~ PAH
Ah, I thought there was something there that I didn't get, LOL.
LA, I'm glad you were only busy. I was getting worried about you. Yes, please send me your Snape threads to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Right now I'm reworking some of the threads I'd already posted, and it's much more time consuming than just reposting a thread. I wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to repost!

New Folders! Moved topics! Oh my! :-D
We have new folders! Lot of 'em! YAY!!! Thanks Denise!
I took the opportunity of moving some topics from the 'Archiving Threads From World Crossing' into these new folders:
1. Slytherin Should Be Disbanded into Opinions On All Things Harry Potter (originally in New Discussion Threads Not Approved or Placed; this folder seemed the most suitable place for it)
2. Alchemy Symbols: Silver to Gold/ 4 Temperaments (Part I) into The World and the Harry Potter Phenomenon
3. Alchemy Symbols: Silver to Gold/ 4 Temperaments (Part II) into The World and the Harry Potter Phenomenon
4. DIGS! (Dumbledore is the Giant Squid) into Theories (originally in Condensed Archived Threads Folder; this folder seemed the most suitable place for it)
I think someone else moved Sirius Black to its proper place, the new folder Wizards, Witches, Muggles, Squibs, Ghosts, Etc. It was great to see in its rightful place.
The majority of the topics left in 'Archiving Threads From World Crossing' are those that were [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on April 7th, to try and create some order in the Archived Threads on the new forum. But then [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on April 12th, that this forum was organized a bit differently and her original plan (a great one! ) wouldn't work. So LA, that's what my [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is all about. Rather than deleting those topics, I'd just rename them. But if you want to delete them and start fresh, that's fine, too.
I think that anyone who reposts something from one of these folders:
• New Discussion Threads Not Approved or Placed
• Threads/Posts Removed from Active Groups for Edits
• Archived Threads to Be Worked
• Condensed Archived Threads Folder
... should make the executive decision and decide which of the new folders to sort them into. The time has come for these topics to be Sorted!
Ditto on being glad LA posted. Hoping things calm down at work.
Mona, I know what you mean. And I wish I had used the 'Preview' option in the editing window more often, instead of pressing 'Send'... I wouldn't have so many edits show up on some of my early reposted posts... 20+! Alas, earwax!
And re: my baby pic, thanks! Those old B&W pics taken in the late 60's in India are some of my family's favorite ones.
Okay, time to work on the latest Five Word story, so that I can repost by this evening, a day late.

That was me! I was so thrilled to see the new folders I had to move SB to his rightful place right away. I also wanted to move Slytherin Should Be Disbanded, and I too thought the Opinions folder was the best place, but I was called away before I could do it. Thanks for moving it, PAH.

Update on the reposted threads
Bonjour (or bonsoir) fellow archivists!
A big big thank you to you Denise for creating the new folders, that's exactly what we needed!
I have reposted five more threads today and updated my list (in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) for you PaH.
PaH:
Good to see you again LA! And Strengthening Charms to you as you're going to dive into the reposting process! BTW, after fumbling around a lot for the fastest and easiest way to repost threads and create an index, I have finally found a way that works well for me and created a "template" document that I use for each thread I repost. I just have to add the title of the thread and needed links in it et voilà! If you'd like me to send you the document, I'll be glad to.
I love all the baby pictures! They're just too cute!

Re: Efforts to Archive WX Threads
I think it makes more sense for me to delete the threads I created, rather than re-naming and moving them (although I might leave one to practice moving, just to learn how.) I will try to get that done by Friday.
I hope to start reposting a little bit each week, but won't get a lot done until the summer is over with. On Easter Sunday, our pastor announced the Bishop is moving him to a new church, as of July 1st. He promptly took off on a 3-week vacation, leaving most of the prep for the new pastor for me to deal with. I also found out last Friday, that the "meeting" being held here at church the first week in July (a meeting approved by the outgoing pastor) is actually a National Convention for one of the denominational groups, and there will be 250-300 people on campus all week.
I have to keep reminding myself that in this economy, I am lucky to have a fulltime job. And there's no danger I would ever be laid off . . .
PAH, love the hair bows!!

My Archive Posting Method
A pictorial description of my method of posting WX Thread Archives
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
My new posting method.
1) Create all the posts needed in a new archive topic using post count in title and title as post content.
2) This gets you sequential post numbers for easy URL creation and duplication for indices.
3) Edit each post to add the correct content based on post count in titles.
4) Added benefit is that if you later choose to merge multi volume threads into a single topic. The post dates (and merge order) will be predictable and unlikely to interleave replies like cards shuffled in a deck.

Oh one thing I noted is that a mod can still add posts to locked topics or add topics to a locked thread. The buttons use the image [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] but still work for mods. The left one is for new topic in the form and the one to the right in add reply to the thread.Pensively, John Bumbledore wrote:
- I've had to change my Excel formulas to alert me when it incorrectly identifies post headers.
- I added new formulas to create reposting titles based on the title of the archived thread and the posts included in the reposting (reply.)
- I've resorted to using Word to remove the HTML code
needed in the excel formulas to add a blank line after post headings or only after the "edit" line following post headings.
- I also use word to remove the quote symbols that surround some post headings because of those Excel formulas.
- I am still having to manually fix some formula errors that interpret a "signature" lines like --Mike as a formula with a result of #Name? because the named range of Mike does not exist in the spreadsheet.
- Must make screen captures of my Excel Markup sheet, MS Word find and replace, and Windows "send to compressed folder" techniques to append to this post.

Neat pictorial description, John! And other stuff...
I love the visual presentation of your archiving process, John. Very snazzy. I understand the numbered list of information in your post, but, I have to admit, the info. in your bulleted list makes me feel a bit . I don't use the formula option of Excel at all, whenever I happen to use it, which is hardly ever. But my archiving process is a bit different from everyone else's, as I'm not doing bulk reposting of 25 to 50 WX posts in one forumotion (fm) post. I'm plodding a way, a bit at a time, but I'll get there in the end!
Okay, now for some other notes:
1] Elanor, I have √ your list of reposted threads in your [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
2] Just a reminder to John, Julia, and LA, don't forget to post a "list of reposted threads post" when you've got 4 or 5 threads done, like how [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] have done, and I'll update the 'Table of Archived Threads' within a day or two of your posting. I know some other complete threads have been posted already, that aren't updated on the tables. But, to be honest, I don't feel like scrolling through the Archived WX Threads folder to find them. It's time consuming, and I'd rather have things be easy, peasy. I'm sure you can appreciate that.
3] Mona, re: moving the 'Slytherin Should Be Disbanded' thread, my pleasure. Re: how to make a √ (which I believe is a square root symbol in math), there is HTML code for it, but I discovered a much simpler way: I press the 'option' key and V on my MacBook keyboard and get a √. I don't know what happens on a PC board, tho'. I'm a Mac person, through and through.
4] Elanor, re: moving the 'Alchemy' threads, sure thing!
5] LA don't fret at all about getting all your reposting done by the end of the summer... you archived sooo much! It's amazing what you, and everyone, was able to do in so little time. Do what you can, when you can. All I know is, each time someone reposts part of a thread, it's like getting a little unexpected gift. So the way I see it, there'll be lots of little unexpected gifts to look forward to for many days to come!
6] WOW!!! Things are really going to be busy for you for the next month, aren't they, LA? Lots of Calming draughts and Strengthening charms for you.
8] Okay, off to format some more HP Riddles. The reposting is not the hard part... it's the reformatting... ugh. Sometimes, some people's explanations of their riddles are, siriusly, 10x as long as their riddle.

PAH - would it be easier if we sent you an email or private message on the forum, telling you what we've reposted so that you don't have to search through various messages?
Of course, posting here lets everyone know the progress being made . . . . and those little check marks are cute!

I'm glad you asked, LA. In one of my earlier posts — I'll have to look for it to post a link (EDIT: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] — I had an idea that would prevent unnecessary searching on my part and everyone's part. In the header post of this thread, near the bottom, you will see this:

• [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If you check here each time you want to repost your update, you all won't have to scroll through lots of posts to find your updated list, and nor will I. Handy, huh?
Emails and PMs from 5 different people with bits of info. here and there will get unwieldy, and then I won't want to look at them as they accumulate, and like you said, it's good to see how the work progresses and those check marks are cute, after all.

Re: Efforts to Archive WX Threads
Potteraholic had a thread... **erm, that sounds pretty catchy!**Potteraholic wrote:Lady Arabella wrote:PAH - would it be easier if we sent you an email or private message on the forum, telling you what we've reposted so that you don't have to search through various messages?
Of course, posting here lets everyone know the progress being made . . . . and those little check marks are cute!
I'm glad you asked, LA. In one of my earlier posts — I'll have to look for it to post a link (EDIT: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] — I had an idea that would prevent unnecessary searching on my part and everyone's part. In the header post of this thread, near the bottom, you will see this:*********************************************************
→ Index of Archivists' updated lists of REPOSTED archived WX threads ←

• [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
• [url=]Julia's list[/url]
• [url=]Lady Arabella's list[/url]

If you check here each time you want to repost your update, you all won't have to scroll through lots of posts to find your updated list, and nor will I. Handy, huh?
Emails and PMs from 5 different people with bits of info. here and there will get unwieldy, and then I won't want to look at them as they accumulate, and like you said, it's good to see how the work progresses and those check marks are cute, after all.

PAH, how do you do it all and still not get "link" weary.
Ummm... link weary?
Ummm... I didn't think links were really that hard to do. In fact, I find them easy, peasy, 1-2-3sy (or lemon squeezy).John Bumbledore wrote:PAH, how do you do it all and still not get "link" weary.
Or do you mean that I 'over-link'? Hmmm...
