Re: HP Related Trivia (Vol. III)
Okay, here we go!
- Spoiler:
- 1. Trelawney to Harry in HPB. I think it's in a corridor coming from DD's office, and she is ticked because doesn't have time to see her (because he is getting ready to work with Harry).
2. Harry to Draco on the Hogwarts Express, after Draco has insulted Ron ... PS/SS.
3. Draco is making a smart remark to anyone who will listen (?) in a Potions class ... no idea which book.
4. Fleur to Madame Maxime in GoF, after Harry has been called out as the 4th champion to compete in the Triwizard Contest.
5. DD to Harry in this hospital wing--PS/SS--following his encounter with Quirrell.
6. Lee Jordan to listeners of Potterwatch in DH, as are listening to the Deluminator.
7. Trelawney to in Divination, just before Hermione walks out of class. Trelawney has just seen the Grim in Harry's teacup, and Herm makes an exasperated comment like "not that stupid Grim again," or something similar. PoA
8. McGonagall encouraging Peeves in OP, regarding the chandelier he is trying to unscrew. This is following departure from Hogwarts, and everyone is pretty much trying to make Umbridge's life miserable.
9. I think this is Fred ... saying it to all in the vicinity as Harry walks down the corridor in Chamber of Secrets.
10. Harry to Krum (regarding Ginny) at Bill and Fleur's wedding in DH.
11. Moaning Myrtle to Harry (about Draco) in HBP ... just before Harry performs the Sectumsempra curse on Draco.
12. Ron to Harry (about Griphook) in DH ... at Shell Cottage, perhaps?
Bonus: The only thing I can think of that they have in common is that is present at all of them ... either making them or overhearing them.

Re: HP Related Trivia (Vol. III)
I just wanted to say thanks to PAH for doing the last quiz. That was a good idea for the bonus question.
PAH, I also wanted to send you a short note about feeling unappreciated. I know you have done and do a lot of work on the forum. This site does not run itself. Many tasks take a lot of time. If doing these tasks feels more like work to you instead of fun, then I highly recommend that you take a break (as you indicated you will). When the fun becomes work, it's time to take a step back and evaluate the situation. My impression is that you have many things to do in your life and maintaining this site has become a burden that you don't need. I will not hesitate to drop activities on the forum when things get crazy at home. I don't like doing that when I know people are waiting for things to get done, but my family takes priority.
Also, thanks to the other forum "hosts" (the proper name escapes me at the moment). Sometimes fun takes a lot of work and I, for one, appreciate the effort.
I hope you are able to get some "me" time, and come back to participate in whatever level you feel comfortable.

Re: HP Related Trivia (Vol. III)
If nobody has an objection, I'd like to put together another trivia quiz. I'll do some studying on a potential subject (suggestions welcome) if the consensus is positive, or at least not negative. My first thought would be a Christmas holiday quiz in preparation for the winter holidays.

The Harry Potter Christmas Trivia Quiz
It’s near Christmas so I thought a Harry Potter Christmas Trivia Quiz would be appropriate. It is clear that Christmas is important in the world of Harry Potter. Many important things happen with Christmas as part of the scene. Some questions are meant to be nearly impossible and some not so difficult. As I have said before, I’m quite impressed how many people know the minutia in the Harry Potter books. I'm not making the quiz long to save time for you and me. So let the quiz begin!
1. Harry receives gifts from the Dursleys and sometimes we are aware of what the gift is. What are the three gifts we know about and what books are they in? (1 point per gift, 1 point for the correct book) Total points not given here.
2. In PoA, there are only 13 people at Christmas dinner (an unlucky number!). Two remain unnamed but the other 11 are specifically named. Can you name all 11 for 11 pts?
3. Not all Christmas Days were spent at Hogwarts. What years were spent at Hogwarts for 1 point?
4. Where else was Harry on Christmas Day? (Where was he when he woke up?), 1 point each, I won’t show total points here since that will give the answer to #3.
5. In what books did Harry participate in a snowball fight? 1 point per book.
6. In the books that Harry left Hogwarts for Christmas, what are the methods mentioned for travel to and from the school? ( Hint: Not all are mentioned) (1 point each)
7. Three different hats from Wizard Crackers are mentioned in the books. Two for Dumbledore and one for Harry. Name them for 1 point each
8. What color jumpers (sweaters) did Mrs. Weasley give to Harry? Specifically, there are 2 years where a pattern and color are mentioned (1 point for each pattern, 1 point for each color, 1 point for each book, 6 total points). Another year has a color without a pattern (1 point for color, 1 point for the book, 2 points total). Grand total = 8 pts.
Good luck to all!

Re: HP Related Trivia (Vol. III)
OK, I'll have a go at your devilishly hard quiz BB. I'm afraid I'm going to embarrass myself with how little of these details I can recall, but hopefully that will encourage more people to have a go.
Oh my gosh, that's embarrassing. I can't wait to see how everyone else does.
- Spoiler:
- 1. Harry receives gifts from the Dursleys and sometimes we are aware of what the gift is. What are the three gifts we know about and what books are they in? (1 point per gift, 1 point for the correct book) Total points not given here.
I'm pretty sure Harry receives a pair of mustard coloured knobbly socks, cast offs from Vernon if I remember rightly. I'm going to guess this was in Philosopher's Stone.
In Chamber of Secrets Harry receives a 50p coin taped to a piece of paper.
I guess Harry would also have received a present from the Dursleys in POA, but I can't remember what it was!
2. In PoA, there are only 13 people at Christmas dinner (an unlucky number!). Two remain unnamed but the other 11 are specifically named. Can you name all 11 for 11 pts?
Harry, Ron, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Trelawney, Flitwick, Sprout, Hagrid, a couple of first years?
I'm really only sure about the first six of those - how embarrassing!
3. Not all Christmas Days were spent at Hogwarts. What years were spent at Hogwarts for 1 point?
PS, COS, POA, GOF
4. Where else was Harry on Christmas Day? (Where was he when he woke up?), 1 point each, I won’t show total points here since that will give the answer to #3.
OotP - 12 Grimmauld Place
HBP - The Burrow
DH - Camping in the vicinity of Godric's Hollow
5. In what books did Harry participate in a snowball fight? 1 point per book.
Philosopher's Stone, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire
6. In the books that Harry left Hogwarts for Christmas, what are the methods mentioned for travel to and from the school? ( Hint: Not all are mentioned) (1 point each)
OotP - Portkey to 12GP, Floo powder back to school (it had been connected to McGonagall's office especially for the occasion
HBP - Not sure how they got there - was it the train? Now I'm thinking they used Floo powder again to get back to school. Maybe I'm mis-remembering the detail above from the wrong book.
7. Three different hats from Wizard Crackers are mentioned in the books. Two for Dumbledore and one for Harry. Name them for 1 point each
One that looked like Neville's grandmother's hat
Can't remember the other two - oh the shame!
PS - Green jumper with a H pattern
There was a jumper with a golden snitch - not sure what colour it was, I'll go for Gryffindor red - not sure what book it was in either, let's guess COS
For the colour without a pattern, I'll guess GOF and maroon - although Ron normally gets the maroon ones
Oh my gosh, that's embarrassing. I can't wait to see how everyone else does.

Re: HP Related Trivia (Vol. III)
Thanks for the new quiz BB!
- Spoiler:
1. A tissue, a 50 pence piece and a pair of Vernon's old socks. No idea which books they are in. I'll go with the socks in PS, 50p in CS and the tissue in POA.
2. Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Professor Trelawney, Professor Snape, Professor Flitwick, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Derek ( The kid that DD offered the chipolatas to, lol!), a couple of surly-looking Slytherins?
3. PS, COS, POA, GOF.
4. He was at 12 Grimmauld place in OotP, The Burrow in HBP but I can't remember where he was in DH (I remember Godric's Hollow on Xmas Eve, but dunno where they went from there).
5. Err, COS and GOF.
6. Floo Powder, Knight Bus...I assume train is the usual method.
7. Rear Admiral's hat, a flowery bonnet and a vulture topped hat.
8. Bottle green (PS), red with a Hungarian Horntail on (GOF), green with snitches on?

- 1. Harry receives gifts from the Dursleys and sometimes we are aware of what the gift is. What are the three gifts we know about and what books are they in? (1 point per gift, 1 point for the correct book) Total points not given here.
A penny (PS?); a pair of Vernon's old socks (GoF?)
2. In PoA, there are only 13 people at Christmas dinner (an unlucky number!). Two remain unnamed but the other 11 are specifically named. Can you name all 11 for 11 pts?
Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Trelawney, Flitwick, Sprout, Hagrid, Filch, some more students
OotP: 12GP; HBP: the Burrow; DH: in the tent somewhere in a forest after fleeing from Godric's Hollow and before going to the Forest of Dean.
5. In what books did Harry participate in a snowball fight? 1 point per book.
PS, GoF
6. In the books that Harry left Hogwarts for Christmas, what are the methods mentioned for travel to and from the school? ( Hint: Not all are mentioned) (1 point each)
OotP: Floo Network?
7. Three different hats from Wizard Crackers are mentioned in the books. Two for Dumbledore and one for Harry. Name them for 1 point each
All I can remember is the witch's hat with the vulture for Dumbledore, and I think Harry got a similar one.
A Hungarian Horntail pattern in GoF, and maybe a golden snitch in PS.
That was difficult but fun! Thanks for the quiz, BB!
