OK - here goes:
I hide my skill,
Not might, only will.
If you are with me,
You'll see things differently.
A king's curse,
Some sea spray,
A leap of faith,
or you will stay.
Guess away!!!

Yes, Esther Rose!!! That is it!!!
I hide my skill, - Harry just thought it was mist.
Not might, only will. - You don't need strength to beat the mist.
If you are with me,
You'll see things differently. - You are upside down!!
A king's curse, - King Midas turned everything to gold.
Some sea spray, - The mist.
A leap of faith, - Harry had to take a step to get out.
or you will stay. - If he didn't he would still be there!
Nice guessing, everyone!!!

My riddle.
Under the ground is where I lie. In brightness that could make you cry.
Though you may approach me wary. It's hopes and dreams that I carry.
I am a symbol of great unity. So think of others as you're passing me.
What am I?
This should be easy. =)
ETA: Then she deleted it and posted it here for all to see. =) Thanks all who alerted me.
I was a bit confused why my riddle wasn't appearing where it should have.

John Bumbledore wins!!!!
The answer is The Fountain of Magical Brethren.
Under the ground is where I lie. In brightness that could make you cry.
The Ministry of Magic is found under ground. On the way down Harry had to close his eyes to avoid them from watering
Though you may approach me wary. It's hopes and dreams that I carry.
When Harry first sees the fountain he is worried about being expelled from Hogwarts. In doing so he makes a "wish" to not be expelled from Hogwarts. (for an exchange of 10 Galleons)
I am a symbol of great unity. So think of others as you're passing me.
The fountain had statues of a wizard, a witch, a goblin, a house elf, and a centuar and the proceeds of what was thrown into the fountain benefitted St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries
Great Job John!

John Bumbledore - Mar 31, 2006 6:39 am (#679 of 2987)
Drat, should have know I couldn't be creative in 30 minutes or less. I think this will be easy, but then I already know the answer.
I just cannot seem to find what I deem
is the proper place for me.
I've looked high and low where now shall I go
for the seven years I'll be.
Will you read my mind to name to which kind
of the founding four agree?
What choices to make, what thoughts to forsake,
uniting of four to see.
Well, I had better stop there before I lead you astray. Maybe someone will sort it out.

Marè, you have it. A first year student at Hogwarts, waiting to be sorted.
I must admit that I spent too much time on the structure of the clues and not enough on the content. I had intended it to be about the Sorting Hat. However, as I see now, I wrote it from the student's point of view (except the last verse).
So, Marè, you are more correct than my own intent. I thank you for sparing me a lengthy trial.
I now pass to you the riddling quill.

Azi got the riddle! I need to make harder ones... very good!
I light the days, I light the night, Hinkypunks have lantarns.
But from my shadows you can't hide. This is a very bad reference to their smoky substance. I figured smoke>grey>shadowy and vapoury... And it had to rhyme too.
Follow me, follow me when I call. They don't actually call but they lure you which is close enough.
Darkness then will fall. Into the bogs we go, and I don't think that will be very healthy.
So, next riddle: Azi.

Yes, Haymoni, it is! **whoops**
Perfect in every way,
Admirers would say. Image is everything in the Malfoy world. They appear to be perfect wizarding citizens. Of course, admirers are biased.
Influential to the bone, Lucius is very influential in the Ministry, delaying laws, demanding reverence for being from an old wizarding family etc.
Now encased in stone. Lucius is in Azkaban Prison, a stone fortress (assumed?).
Hiding a surprise, The dark mark on his arm, the fact he's a Death Eater.
But in my eyes,
I'm faithful to my kind. Faithful to the pure blood wizards by being a Death Eater! His way is right.
Well done again, Haymoni! Your turn!

It is "Dennis Creevey".
I'm smaller than the original. (Dennis is smaller than Colin.)
I'm even wetter still. (He fell in the lake, poor kid!)
When I tag along, (He comes to the Hogshead w/ Colin.)
I am wrong. (We all know he shouldn't have been allowed.)
And, no, my name's not Bill.

Ok, here's the riddle:
I
Make part one of me laugh and you'll meet many house-elves.
There's nothing of which to be scared.
II
The bones of part two have collapsed in its louse self,
And its vision is sadly impaired.
III
And lastly part three of me you've seen a lot,
I don a salmon kimono.
All
Together we're tied up into a general knot
That take on a certain persona.
What persona, or trait, do all three of the solutions have in common? Note that the three are not parts of a whole, they simply have one thing similar to the others.
Sorry guys, it's a pretty badly written riddle, but it's the best I can do. I hope you don't bombard me with tomatoes at the end!

Mrs Brisbee, you have the riddle on the whole, though you still don't have part II, but I'm going to give it to you anyway.
I
Make part one of me laugh and you'll meet many house-elves. (tickle the pear to get into the kitchens)
There's nothing of which to be scared.
II
The bones of part two have collapsed in its louse self,
And its vision is sadly impaired. (Okay, so the one-eyed humpbacked witch guards the secret passageway to Honeyduke's. The use of "louse self" was simply to get it to rhyme with "house-elf," but if you take out the word louse that's really what you're looking for. Still, we don't know if the witch was ever a contemptible person.) Sorry! Told you it was bad!
III
And lastly part three of me you've seen a lot,
I don a salmon kimono. (The Fat Lady is in every book, and she wears a pink dress.0
All
Together we're tied up into a general knot
That take on a certain persona.
What persona, or trait, do all three of the solutions have in common? Note that the three are not parts of a whole, they simply have one thing similar to the others.
And the answer is that they are all denizens of Hogwarts that guard something!
I'm really sorry again about 'louse self,' I hoped that maybe the witch was pretty louse!!
Anyway, your riddle Mrs Brisbee.

Now though I think only innocent thoughts,

***Muchos Fanfare!!!!!!!!!!!!***
HungarianHorntail11 has guessed the riddle with the Death Eater whose head fell into the Bell Jar (or The Baby-Headed Death Eater, as I like to call him)!
Here is the riddle explained:
Once upon a time (my little joke because it's in the Time Room and it's about Time) I was evil and feared, (because he's a Death Eater!)
Only to be stunned at what happened when I visited that bird! (when Hermione Stuns him he falls, and his head falls into the bell jar "home" of the hummingbird that keeps cycling between egg and bird. Everyone is amazed to see the Death Eater's head shrink to baby size, grow large again, then back to baby....")
Now though I think only innocent thoughts, (because he's got a baby head with a baby brain, so "innocent thoughts")
But I can't be denying that I'm looking quite weird. (because now he's got a little baby pinhead on top of a big old Death Eater body. Might even be weirder looking than the water skiing budgie, or at least a close second!)
Congratulations, HH11, well done. The next riddle is yours!

When in the final hour does the moment reveal,
the faith of one to allow the chance for just appeal?

Congratulations! Azi, you have it! The answer is Draco Malfoy.
From the light brews darkness, - He has light colored hair, but darkness grows within. (I thought for sure Puck would come back with Draco after guessing Snape.)
The precedent grows sound, - It becomes clear of what he is becoming.
A gathering of indicators through the years abound. His cruel behavior toward others, Katie Bell incident, poisoned wine, etc.
When in the final hour does the moment reveal,
the faith of one to allow the chance for just appeal? The final hour and the one is DD and his face-off with him on the tower. He had faith that Draco could not do it, will others be so gracious in their judgment of him?

Noble in my time, The noble and ancient house of Black
My marriage hard as stone. Phineas married Ursula Flint, flint is a rock
Four more to my name,
My family would atone. Phineas had 5 children, but one was disowned so only 4 would be mentioned in the family.
So who am I, young friend, don't talk tosh!
I bet you guess a load of hogwash! This was a weak link to Phinea's feeling that young people are annoying, talk rubbish etc. I found the insults he used to be...unusual...and tosh and hogwash are also unusual insults. Hogwash could also be seen as a link to Hogwarts.
I hope that clears thing up! If not, put it down to my bad riddle making today!

Easy one:
It's so easy to look past me,
for a hero I am not.
And so much that is important
I most likely forgot.
But whether I have wings
Or hop on only one foot
In the end ten can make all the difference,
for the greater good.
Despite of myself sometimes,
brave does apply.
So take twelve of me and tell me
Who (or what) am I?

No Elanor got it right! And you figured out the ten and twelve quite nicely.
It's so easy to look past me, for a hero I am not. Well, personally I think he is, but I'm going with the majority of the book characters here.
And so much that is important I most likely forgot. Neville always forgets everything, even his remembrall..
But whether I have wings Fred and George's Canary Cream...
Or hop on only one foot Malfoy’s leg-locker curse...
In the end ten can make all the difference, for the greater good. Ten points for Gryffindor wins the House cup in PS
Despite of myself sometimes, brave does apply. So take twelve of me and tell me who (or what) am I Well, Neville has his own kind of bravery, and he is worth twelve of Malfoy, so there you go.
Riddle solved!

But be them and above

Exactly Mills! Congratulations!!!
The riddle was about what the "Quintessence: A Quest" book is telling to Harry:
"Hear my humming voice" was a reference to Dumbledore because (as often said on the alchemy thread) he, and music/harmony, are connected to the quintessence symbol and it was also a clue that the next line was to be "hummed", that is to say was coming from a song. (And I wouldn't be surprised if DD was the author of that book BTW)
"And follow that star..." was to make you think of "quest": this is Harry's quest (and there was also a nod towards the alchemists' "star" here which guides them).
Then were clues about the meaning of that quintessence quest for Harry:
"Don't trust one, But all."
Harry has to trust not only the Gryffindor house but the four houses, Slytherin house included, so that Hogwarts will be united again.
[i]"Don't let go one, You'd fall."
Same meaning: the balance of the 4 elements/4 houses (not one has to be let out) will bring the "quintessence", the fifth element.
"But be them and above And they'll answer your call."
Quintessence means to be at the same time inside each element and above them: Harry has to reach that stage (symbolically) so to have the whole school with him in his last battle against Voldemort.
And I said the last answers you suggested were part of the answer's meaning because that unity of the houses is what the Sorting hat keeps telling them about in the last books and I really see the house ghosts playing a part in that "quest" too!
Congratulations again Mills! Your turn!

Yay! Esther Rose got it!
Mistress Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
These two lines are from the opening number in The Secret Garden. The next line is: "Not so well, she said, see the Lily's dead." If you were unfamiliar with the musical, Lilies still grow in gardens.
With willing willows
Lily was willing to sacrifice her life for her son's. She also had a willow wand.
And pleasing peppermint
Lily had a flair for Potions. When Harry used peppermint in "An Elixir to Induce Euphoria," this was an unusual enough ingredient to remind Slughorn of Lily.
And charming maids all in a row.
Lily's wand was supposed to be good for charms. She also had a lot of friends; when Harry sees her in Snape's Worst Memory, she is surrounded by girlfriends.
All yours, Esther! Good job.
Mills.

Five, six,
Just as you wish.
Until I can't do it any more.
Who or what am I?
I am terribly sorry I am late. And even more sorry for the aweful poem.

As you all figured out John was correct on the riddle. I see that John hadn't posted a riddle yet so I will put the explaination here for those who did not look in my profile.
The answer is Dobby. He is a House Elf but the riddle is specific to him.
One, two,
I’ll follow you.
We are introduced to Dobby in COS (book 2). It is there Dobby makes it a task to follow Harry around to try and keep him away from what is about to happen at Hogwarts.
Three four,
I’ve done your chore.
In GOF (book 4) it is Dobby that figures out how to get Harry to stay underwater for an hour. And it is Dobby that retrieves the Gillyweed and wakes Harry up in time for the second task.
Five, six,
Just as you wish.
Until I can't do it any more.
In Book six, Dobby declares complete loyalty to Harry and literally watches Draco around the clock.

John Bumbledore - May 3, 2006 9:16 am (#1451 of 2987)
I'm fried, but I'll give it a chase...
Now please guess and don't make a face!
Part 1: A Box
A box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.
Part 2: The Treasure
Once were many, but then became few,
Now for the game they use something new.
I stole part one to hide part two,
'cause I didn't know what else to do.

Winky, you found the right answer, even if you did scramble the word order. It is Snidget Egg (or Egg/Golden Snidget). Edit: of course egg of Snidget would be a correct word order (if not the proper translation) in Latin based languages (and others, perhaps).
I'm fried, but I'll give it a chase...
Now please guess but don't make a face!
fried was a clue to as well as an eggcuse as to why it took so long for me to post a new riddle.
A box with out hinges, key or lid,
a container without an opening
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.
It holds a golden yoke.
Part 1 is an Egg.
Once were many, but then became few,
Snidget became an endangered species.
Now for the game they use something new.
The Snitch was invented to replace the Snidget.
Part 2 is a Snidget (or Golden Snidget).
I poached part one to hide part two,
'cause I didn't know what else to do.
Well, I suppose this could have been better phrased, but part two was hidden inside part one. (See second line of part 1.)
Answer: Snidget egg (or Egg/Snidget).
I really thought Elanor would recognize the egg riddle, as I know she has read Tolkien.
The hints I gave in italics were fried, then later added riddle... in the dark, and changed stole to poached.

Inspired by the eggcellent John Bumbledore above I have been "influenced" by a classic riddle at least for the first part! I have just thrown this together whilst cooking, so I hope it works.
My first will be too much for one yet be good for two, but spoilt by three or four
My second is Quidditch player who gives away nothing,
Now expect me to tell you no more.
Who or what am I?

Well done it is indeed! Is that a record unscrambled in six minutes? I knew it was easy to crack, all yolking aside! (sorry the bad egg puns have kind of over spilt from the last riddle)! Over to you!

Finn, A secret is only a secret if no one knows, as soon as more than two people share it it is not any longer a true secret! I know that you could be pedantic and say that as soon as you share it with anyone it is no longer a true secret, but then the riddle wouldn't work.

PS John I kind of cheat with the HTML codes. Open office has the ability for you to type what you want, in whatever style font colour etc , you can then view the source and just copy the lot! So thank you that looks so much better! I am learning slowly but surely!

John is right. It's Trelawney.
She lead a pretty good life in Hogwarts with a home and a well paid job, until Cruella appeared and sacked her. Now even though Umbridge's gone, Trelawney's life is still going downhill. And the break down in tears was of course a reference to the scene, where she was sacked.
Congratulations, John.

Mrs. Brisbee's got it! It's Knockturn Alley. I wondered if that clue was a bit obvious, after I had mentioned that thread in a previous post.
Tell me a joke - Refers to Knock knock jokes
Do a pirouette - A type of turn in ballet
Go and catch this would be pet - An Alley cat
Great job Mrs. B! Take it away!

Congratulations, Esther Rose, the answer to the riddle is indeed garden gnome.
Under brush, weeds, and wabe, They can be found in the Weasleys' overgrown garden. I borrowed "wabe" from Lewis Carroll's nonsense poem Jabberwocky, it means the area around a sundial, and the Weasleys have a sundial in their garden.
finding slithy cate to eat, Apparently, garden gnomes love to eat worms. I threw in another Lewis Carroll word, "slithy", which means slimy and lithe. "Cate" is a delicious morsel. That word is a bit archaic, though.
here's the decorative nuisance Gnomes are pests, but Fred and George found a use for one as a Christmas tree decoration.
that can reach at least fifty feet. They can fly!... With a little help. In CoS during the garden degnoming, Harry manages to throw his gnome fifty feet into the air.
Next riddle is yours.

The other, gone.
Where am I?
Eek! Um, the answer will be in my profile over the weekend.

Puck!!! Congrats!!! You are the winner! How funny to think of the Malfoys when you're changing diapers.
The answer is The Malfoy Manor.
In two I lost one.
Mr. Malfoy loses Dobby in COS (book 2) due to a diary, a well placed sock and Harry Potter.
In three I lost none.
In four, same score.
Everyone remaining stays in the Malfoy Manor.
At the end of five,
One taken alive.
In Book five (OOtP), Lucius Malfoy is taken to prison by MOM.
After inspections
And new directions.
We learn in book six (HBP) that the Malfoy Manor has been inspected and Draco has a new task given to him by Voldemort himself.
In six, one alone
The other, gone.
And lastly Draco at the end of book six, Draco becomes a "wanted young wizard" leaving Narcissa Malfoy all by herself, without husband or son.
BRAVO PUCK!!! You deserve a Butterbeer for that one!

Thanks, Esther! It was a fun riddle! I, too, thought it was amusing that I thought of the Malfoy Family while in the presence of a dirty diaper! (I'm curious, did you know that the riddle also described horcruxes, or was that just a coincidence?)
Okay, so here's the new riddle
Beware, mates, as you try to pass
Your first attempt may be your last.
Knowing my secret will help you begin
To discover another, which lies within.

Olivia, you have it! It is the Whomping Willow!
Beware, mates, as you try to pass.
Your first attempt may be your last.
We have all seen what happens when you get near that tree!
Knowing my secret will help you begin
If you know how to use a stick to press the knot, you can get into the passage.
To discover another, which lies within.
The secret passage lead to the shack, where Lupin hid while transformed.
Congrats Olivia!

Congrats Mrs. Brisbee! You have it! The answer was Curse!
I become an antonym with just one letter Curse is the opposite of a cure.
Add an S and make it worse. Add an S to cure to make it curse.
Remove it to make it better. Take the S off to make it a good thing.
I'll have to make a harder one next time......
Tag you're it!

HH11 has guessed the riddle! It is indeed the Four-Point Spell.
Hold the rose. You place your wand on the palm of your hand, creating a makeshift compass rose.
Ask, it shows Say "point me".
Where 'tis froze. And the wand points north (it's cold in the arctic, brrr).
Hence is chose. Now that you know north, you can pick the direction you want to go.
So, back again to a member of that family of Riddlemasters, the Horntails. Congratulations!

The Put-Outer - Good guess, Jewel - - you've got it, great job!!
I bring darkness without evil I wanted to be clear about the distinction - darkness in the form of lacking light, rather than dark/evil (also, it was used by those on the side of 'good')
To move with stealth keep me close - If you want to be sneaky, it helps if it is dark, so keep it with you.
when lives are in upheaval. This clue was not overly helpful, as the whole HP story is really set in times of unrest, but they used it primarily when trying to avoid being seen by DEs and Big V.
Hooray! It's all yours, Jewel.

Well, at least it made it to the third guess. You have it Puck, it was Amortentia.
Different I may seem to each-----the potion smells differently to each person.
The power of mine, no other can reach-----Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in the world.
Mother, mother you can see-----the distinctive mother-of-pearl sheen
Round and round, can you find me?-----the steam rises in characteristic spirals.
What am I? -----Amortentia!
Very good guesses from Azi, Winky Woo, and Finn also! It very well could have been any of those!
Puck, I hand it off to you!!
