    years as a high-rolling gambler

If you make fireworks for a living, there's always a big risk there, innit?

I just remembered something about the timeline of our story, Autumn of 1990 (October, to be exact) — coincidentally, the same time I moved to London for the first of 3 years — Maggie Thatcher was the PM at 10 Downing Street! From Wikipedia:
She resigned as Prime Minister and party leader in November 1990 after Michael Heseltine's challenge to her leadership of the Conservative Party.

I was thinking, since we have these extra 15 posts, and Fudge has already looked at his watch because he's got this meeting with the PM to get to, maybe he leaves for a bit, then comes back to finish the entry, making some mention of the 'Iron Lady' herself? And some lessons he could learn from her? Like keeping your friends close, but your enemies closer? Just an idea, of course.

The story already has garnered quite a healthy return. in the previous sentence, so we need something more specific here now.

Mona, hope you're feeling better, and welcome back!

Verity, maybe he just mentions not wanting to keep the 'Iron Lady' waiting as he gets ready to Apparate?

of support (about my plan to offer free dental care for vampires...about my plan to provide a quill for every Hogwarts student...about my plan to halve the tax on floo powder) that I completely exhausted my supply of owl nuts! LOL, I'm just rambling now!
That sounds like a good idea PAH, and do-able with our posts left.

Please disregard this post.

NOTE: freshwater, I am not sure how your post follows Verity's... or even fits in this sentence:

I received so many letters of support for my plan to offer free dental care to vampires that I completely {I wonder if Xeno Lovegood} exhausted my supply of owl treats!

Maybe you saw a post on another page and followed that one? So, sorry, but I am not going to count it in this story, since Xeno Lovegood has not been mentioned in this story at all so far, or even hinted at. As noted earlier, Fudge's journal entry is being written in italics and narrative is unitalicized. And please post a countdown of posts left, as this thread is ending and posts are limited. Thanks! ~ Potteraholic

The ornate brass clock on

A little bit of narrative, reminding Fudge of the time, and his impending appointment.

Yes, that was a very odd post of Freshwater's. I wonder what happened there. Perhaps she hit 'post reply' at the bottom of a previous page instead of the last post in the story. However, it did still use a post, even though it's not counted in the story, so maybe we should include it for countdown purposes.

If memory serves, and I think it does, this has happened before. It does not take that much time to check if a post is the last one posted before posting the next one. When I saw that post, I had to figure out what to do and what to type. It took a few minutes that I would have rather used differently. Anyway, on with the story.

Re: the posts left, we had a tiny bit of wiggle room. The next post will start our last page of 15 posts. With the 3 that we need for the story, the stats and the post-story comments posts, we will have just enough. So, not counting that post, we are at ...

Julia, from my previous post, (no time to make a link, check the other page if you want to see):

She resigned as Prime Minister and party leader in November 1990 after Michael Heseltine's challenge to her leadership of the Conservative Party.

Added info. now: Michael Heseltine lost steam in his bid for the PMship, and John Major became PM after Thatcher, and our story is set pre-HBP, before Harry actually starts Hogwarts. Great job on the riddle, but I don't have a guess.

As my last couple of attempts to participate in a 5 words story have only led to confusion, I think I'll just keep out of it from now on, and will limit my HP game participation to those games that require less concentration. This plan should result in more fun for everyone.
