We read about it in PoA, but never see it.

Harry hears about this thing before meeting Sirius in the Shrieking Shack from an adult male wizard, but not Sirius, a Hogwarts professor, nor anyone associated with the MoM. He does not hear about it at Hogwarts or on the Knight Bus.

Shepherdess, it's a good synopsis. Let me add that some of my answers are vague because we know very little about this object, but nothing suggests that it should be regarded as a dark object, and it may or may not belong to a male because it is not unique (and that's kind of an important point in the context in which it is mentioned), however, I slightly modified my answer to Q10. Also, I think when you find out where Harry has heard about this thing, it'll probably be very easy, so you are asking the right kind of questions, only you haven't hit on the one with a yes answer yet.

Sorry about that, it was a difficult one. We know so little about this thing that it was often impossible to give a definite answer. We can only guess its size, for example. We don't even know whether it's really an invisible book or just a vanishing one - it does seem that the bookshop paid a huge sum of money for nothing. Besides, we don't really know about any actual persons who could be named as owners of these books - unless the manager of the bookshop is the owner of the bookshop as well, but we don't know that either, so for all we know the real owner could be male or female just as well. Finally, it was kind of difficult to say that we have actually seen this thing in any of the books.
