Mona, I agree with PAH. That was a very clever word choice.
PAH, perhaps celebrating Voldemort's downfall continued for a long time! Or if the political process in the wizarding world is anything like that in the U.S., it would have been a very long process!

Thanks!

Featured Story of the Week
"Dumbledore’s Army: Alive and Kicking"
One of the reasons why I have chosen this story is that it was the first one I participated in and I became instantly hooked. But I think it is also a successful story with a coherent plot that satisfyingly fills a "gap" in the DH-year, exploring details not revealed in the book. The characters are in character from Neville to Phineas Nigellus Black, and I like the variety of HP characters appearing in this story. There is an entertaining mixture of drama and humour, and we successfully created a genuine "Hogwarts-feeling". I simply love Luna's insanely insightful remark at the end of the story! And, last but not least, the story includes Headmaster Snape, whose life in the DH-year we know so little about.
I look forward to reading others' opinions about this story.

I imagine Fudge might have used some sneaky tactics to ensure he got the lion's share of the vote, perhaps by making it difficult for certain witches and wizards to get to wherever they needed to get to in order to cast their vote. I'm not sure who might favour Fudge, perhaps older wizards?

This was a great choice Julia. I enjoyed re-reading it. I remember starting this story and being a little concerned initially as other posters didn't seem to get my intention. However, it soon got on track and continued apace. For a long, action-packed story I think we did very well. It has good pace and stays nicely on track. Suspension builds gradually, aided by the split towards the end from the action in the great hall to the action in the headmaster's office. It certainly fills in a gap inn the existing story and I think it does that very convincingly. And as you say, Luna's delightfully original take on the situation was the perfect ending!

Great choice, Julia. It was a good story with an interesting plot, and I enjoyed reading it.
The concluding sentence, spoken by Luna, was wonderful!
I also liked this one -
"Try Alohamora," said Neville. "That's what Hermione would do."
"Or we could perhaps smash the case," Luna added serenely.

Also, thinking ahead, about the last few words of this story, I'm wondering if there should be a narrative sentence? Or should it jest ending with the last of Fudge's reflections before he leaves?

In the States, especially in rural areas, to make it easy for the oldest voters to get out and cast their ballots, voting is held in or near places where they are most likely to go: churches and other places of worship, libraries, post offices, or some building in the center of town where they do their shopping. Election Day is the first Tuesday in November, with additional special elections as needed, for a seat that opens up in the middle of a term, for example. But, particularly in rural areas, voting can happen on a Sunday so that older, churchgoing citizens who don't travel much during the week, can vote before or after the service. So with all that being said, all of these places would tend to be convenient to all citizens, and not just the senior ones. My point in sharing this info.? (I do have one. ) ... I'm stumped as to the sorts of places in the wizarding world that would be especially convenient to older wizards and witches, but not to younger folks.Verity Weasley wrote:I imagine Fudge might have used some sneaky tactics to ensure he got the lion's share of the vote, perhaps by making it difficult for certain witches and wizards to get to wherever they needed to get to in order to cast their vote. So, what's the next voting point? There was a first: location, so there must be at least one other point, right? And then, we probably only have room for one more topic, for the closing paragraph. Any ideas, anyone? (I figure about 12 posts for each of the two remainingposts paragraphs.)

I see your point about needing a 'second' to go with the first, but this is a journal entry, not an organised report, so it's quite possible that Fudge might go off on a different tangent and not say any more about the voting system specifically.

campaign was quite clever, if
Fudge not following up on something in a logical way would also totally fit his style of governance, IMHO. So, the next 20 posts about his ad campaign? Or is there another tangent ol' Fudgy will get sidetracked on before he Apparates to Number 10? Or does he remember his second point about voting after all?
Julia, I will try and read the 'FSOTW' and comment soon... right now am working on reposting the PS/SS section of the 'Series Read-along' thread, and am in that mindframe only. My system is posting the chapter notes/summary on its own followed by that chapter's comments. All the chapter notes/summaries posts will be linked in an index in each book's first post. (It's just like how I reposted the 'Pre-DH Movie Read-along' thread.) So, I'm having to do some skimming through the posts to see where chapters start and end. Halfway through PS/SS. I can't wait til I get to actually read some of these reposted threads. Which reminds me... Mona, how's rereading the threads going?

I do say so myself.
I don't think we'll have enough posts for Fudge to return to his voting point. The ad campaign and a closing narrative sentence will probably take us to the limit. So, who has a clever political slogan?
