It's hard to see the poll question, and I'm not sure if we can change the text colour, so for ease of reading, I'll repeat the question here:
Before the HP series was complete, which of these theories were you completely convinced by, would defend to the hilt, or just loved to read about?

A: DIGS: Dumbledore Is the Giant Squid: I attended a Harry Potter conference in Ottawa (2002ish?) and Lexicon Steve was the guest speaker. Part of his dinner speech addressed crazy theories, and mentioned "DIGS"....and I was the only one present who knew of this theory, because I was the only one who laughed! He went on to explain it and stated "Lack of evidence, in NOT evidence."
C: Mark Evans is the Half-Blood Prince: I was sure that the new "name" in the book --especially with the same surname as Lily!-- would later play a significant role.....ah, well.

Loved DIGS and MPISM, though I was never quite convinced they were true.

favorite wrong theory
Between GoF and OotP, I read a book that examined HP details and predictions. At that point, JKR had mentioned that there would be a special room in OotP, and this book gleefully announced that whatever this room might be, we could be sure that it would NOT be Dumbledore's disappearing room full of chamber pots! Which, of course, (just in case you are experiencing a moment of brain freeze) turned out to be the Room of Requirement.

That was the thing about predictions. You had to go out on a limb. The theories were a lot of fun to discuss though. I remember another theory that had to do with Hermione really being McGonagall in disguise or something like that. I don't remember the details, but the justification for it was centred around the fact that Hermione had noticed the smudge of dirt on Ron's nose when they first met on the train. Molly and McGonagall also noticed the smudge, and so the theory espoused that Hermione was really a middle-aged woman in disguise. The case was made quite strongly, if I recall. Does anybody else remember that one?
Also, I remember theories about Neville's parents and their condition. There was a suggestion that they were being forcibly held in St Mungo's and kept in that state deliberately. It had to do with the gum wrapper and the fact that Drooble's Best Blowing Gum anagrams to Gold Bribe Below St. Mungos. Also quite convincing, but it was difficult to find a plausible reason why that would be the case. Does anyone remember that one?
Any others?

I was never really into predictions. I loved reading all the Harry Books and reading all your discussions about them but was mostly amazed at the depth of analysis people would go to and the "hidden" details I would learn from reading discussions.

I became a member of the Forum after reading the last book and knew nothing about the fascinating theories before that. I am not really a theories person, but I had a notion that Snape would turn out to be on the right side, but I can't remember now if I ever had a theory about why.

Like Dryleaves, I didn’t know about theories before the series were complete. I liked to read about DIGS, because it’s so silly and doesn’t really matter at all, while other theories being true would have changed the plot.
