Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
This was originally posted by Kip Carter - Jun 22, 2009 6:28 pm.
Potty Games (Vol. VII) reached its end on World Crossing on Jun 22, 2009 5:04 am (#2996 of 2996). Until the creation of this new Riddles Only thread, the Potty Games thread normally handled two games: hangman and riddles. With this new thread, the games have been split into two threads, one for each of the two games. "My reasoning behind this is due to some emails asking for splitting the two to avoid a participant having to go through a number of posts to determine the present status of each game." (Kip Carter)
The two new threads are: Potty Games - Riddles Only and Potty Games - Hangman Only
Rules have not changed. Enjoy.
For those of you who are interested- there is another game called Potty Game: Five Words. The rules are simple - each person may contribute five words in each post, and eventually this will create a short story. Click on the assorted links directly below this message if you’d like to find out more about how to play Five Words.
This thread was originally created by dizzy lizzy so that we Potties may have a place to continue to play hangman and guess riddles dealing with Harry Potter:
dizzy lizzy - Feb 28, 2006 8:03 pm
Thanks for the opportunity to create a new thread Kip! *dances* The first time I got to create a new thread was the Horcruxes thread after 16th July!
I hope that this thread will be as long lived an well patronised as the last Potty HQ thread. As I pointed out and Lina so nicely summarised in her post, this is a place for us to come and play games and generally hang out with our friends.
In honour of the fact I love playing hangman (As Tazzygirl and Kate well know!), and checking out the riddles, I propose that this new thread be devoted to providing us with the opportunity to play hangman and our riddles.
Enjoy!
Added Edit Requested by Finn:
There is another game that is over on the Harry Potter Lexicon FanFiction Forum (FFF) called Potty Game: Five Words. It is on the FFF because it is a story based on Harry Potter characters, settings, spells, etc. (hence it is fan fiction). The idea to it is that you submit five words in each of your posts, thus creating a long story that many can contribute to in small portions. Please visit this thread and make your contribution to the current story! - Kip 16 April 2006
The Potty HQ thread (now closed) is the official start for both HP Riddles and HP Hangman games. Troels Forchhammer should be credited with starting the riddles there. Anybody can guess a letter or solution to the hangman, or a solution to the riddle, at any time!

The Last Riddle posted on World Crossing, created by Verity Weasley
Verity Weasley - Feb 4, 2011 10:18 am (#1336 of 1343)
It's been a while since I've written a riddle, so I'm a bit out of practice. So, be gentle with me.
Anyway, here it is. Guess away!
First, rearrange what is great but not good.
Next, think of what’s done by three and by wood.
Finally, add the most powerful magic.
Together, we make the answer you seek.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Choices - Feb 4, 2011 10:28 am (#1337 of 1343)
Is it the Unforgivable Curses?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Verity Weasley - Feb 4, 2011 11:05 am (#1338 of 1343)
Thanks for the guess, Choices, but the answer is not the Unforgiveable Curses.
By the way, I forgot to apologise for the dreadful attempt at a rhyme in the third and fourth lines.
First, rearrange what is great but not good.
Next, think of what’s done by three and by wood.
Finally, add the most powerful magic.
Together, we make the answer you seek.
Guessed: The Unforgiveable Curses

Greta Catchlove?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Verity Weasley- Feb 4, 2011 12:35 pm (#1340 of 1343)
Well done mona! It is Greta Catchlove, author of Charm Your Own Cheese.
We're having a bit of a run on short-lived riddles lately. At this rate, mona's riddle should be guessed on the third guess.
Here's the explanation:
First, rearrange what is great but not good.
Pretty obvious really - just rearrange the letters in the word 'great' and you get Greta
Next, think of what’s done by three and by wood.
The 'three' refers to the three chasers on a Quidditch team, and 'wood' should really have a capital W. What do they do? They catch the Quaffle of course.
Finally, add the most powerful magic.
Well Dumbledore told us over and over that love was more powerful than any magic, so this line refers to love.
Together, we make the answer you seek.
Pretty self-explanatory. Just put the three clues together to give the answer.
Congratulations mona! I look forward to your riddle.

mona amon- Feb 4, 2011 8:44 pm (#1341 of 1343)
Thanks Verity! But it'll be a big deal if I think of even a first-guess riddle!

Wow, that was another quick game! Congratulations, Mona! Verity, I would never have guessed Greta Catchlove - I had completely forgotten she existed. (I did guess 'the most powerful magic' though.)

Calling all HP Riddlers... new riddle needed!
Hello HP Riddlers,
If anyone would like to get a new riddle started in our new home, this thread's all ready! Maybe someone will be inspired after the 15th, after the BIG EVENT happens?

Perhaps it's time to replay/recycle some previously played riddles?
Hello HP Riddlers,
So April 15th came and went... is this thread just going to sit packed up and get dusty from disuse? Only time will tell...

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Okay, I'm game! I haven't played this in ages....
In a land where gold rests on blue
Is wearing cropped trousers the thing to do?
Just find a rhyme rather than pout
And soon you will figure it out.

It's great to see the riddle thread resurrected Puck. The riddling part of my brain is quite out of practice though, so I'll need to think about it for a bit before I can even begin to think of a guess.

- Spoiler:
- The Swedish flag is a gold cross on a blue field. Cropped pants = shorts. Pout rhymes with snout.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Thanks Puck. You see, that's one of those great riddles where the answer makes sense as soon as you think of it, so you know it's right. I was really hoping to come up with a plausible, but incorrect guess, so I wouldn't have to think of a new riddle. Oh well, maybe I can post the old one of mine I came across recently that I had written down without the answer. I couldn't remember what it was, so maybe you guys could work it out for me! LOL.
OK, I'll need some time to think of something.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
OK, the riddling part of my brain is really out of practice, so I have to apologise in advance for the state of my riddle. However, now that we've got our riddle thread going again I didn't want to leave it languishing for too long. I've got a couple of extra lines, just in case, but I really don't think anyone is going to need them.
First, you will find me all around you
Don't take me away whatever you do
Or your world will come crashing down.
Next, look for me when hunger strikes
You'll find me in versions that everyone likes
Mostly, not always, a nice shade of brown.
Last, you'll see me in morning and also at night
you'll see me in shadows away from the light
and in your favourite gown.
First, you will find me all around you
Don't take me away whatever you do
Or your world will come crashing down.

That's interesting, I got chocolate instead of bread. I suspect the way to the solution is a bit trickier - I just can't find the path!

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Puck, the 2nd verse made me think of bread, too.
I don't have a guess, but wonder if maybe the answer is a 3-syllable word instead of 3 words? But I can't think of a 3-syllable word that has 'bread' as the 2nd syllable.

Thanks for the guess and semi-guesses PAH and Julia. I can tell you that the answer has nothing to do with bread or chocolate.
