invited to join the Slug
PAH, I'm afraid I don't remember at all. I know I dropped out for a while when the stories started getting too complicated for me - like the one with Lorcan Death - and then joined again after you sent me a mail. I'll go have a look and try to locate my first story.
EDIT: I think it's yet to be posted. What a lot of stories!

Thought it was time to change from the narrator's voice to Snape's inner dialogue, hence the italics.
Thanks, Julia! And re: the idea you posted in your spoiler box, I don't remember the details. Maybe you can include a link to it in your next post? Or just type it out again?
And re: "I think it's yet to be posted"... yes. As I said earlier, "It's a work in progress; I think Julia and Mona started in Volume VII, the next volume to be posted, in the next few days."
Volumes I to VI are up, with 7 more volumes (67 more stories/stats) to reformat and repost! I'm giving myself a deadline of September 1st to have the Archives ready... let's see how I do!
EDIT: Darn, I forgot to include this before... a HUGE THANKS to Verity for Archiving all the stories/stats/post-story comments for Volumes IV to XI. When we all found out that WX would be closing, there was no way I'd have enough time to do all that post-by-post copying on my own, so Verity's help was a godsend. What a trooper! And way to help out the team!

Ugh... yes, I remember that Lorcan D'eath story... definitely not one of my faves to participate in; thankfully, I didn't have to moderate that one (poor PatPat!), due to its (unnecessary) complexity (IMHO, anyway).Mona wrote:I know I dropped out for a while when the stories started getting too complicated for me - like the one with Lorcan Death - and then joined again after you sent me a mail. PAH, the idea is that
- Spoiler:
- the Elixir to Induce Euphoria could make Slughorn happy enough to be suddenly generous with invitations, whoever happened to be nearby. (Kind of like one of Harry's plans in HBP.) It may also be a potion difficult for a third-year student, and perhaps that's how Snape starts making advanced potions - to be recognized for his talent. Or he could surprise him with Felix Felicis! We know Slughorn used it twice in his life. Or Snape could take it himself. The RoR may also play a part as a place where potions could be made secretly. Or perhaps FF could be stolen from Slughorn's office. Lily might help with any of these.

him to invite me 4 words, as there are 6 in the previous one. Phew! Glad I didn't have to think of a 5th word, anyway!
Julia, thanks for reposting your idea. The thing is, with any specific sort of idea suggested here on Five Words, it needs to be watched over by someone as the story progresses so that refresher notes can be posted for others (who didn't see/read the initial idea) when needed. Since posting is not very frequent lately (summertime/start of school time, etc., and everyone's busy), it's easy to forget the plot of a story or specific plot points. So... we can only wait and see!
Thanks, Mona! I'll need it, especially when it comes to figuring out how to reformat The Daily Prophet story, with its 3 columns, etc. All that HTML code, full of < and > looks like gibberish now compared to BBCode. And the HTML code doesn't yield quite the same effect here, even though HTML is enabled. Alas, earwax!

Ooh, PAH, I remember how great the Daily Prophet story looked in the old forum. I'm sure you'll work out something. And if not - well, that's also OK.

, then I'll have—
Severus' thoughts
I realized I forgot to include the 4 revision stories a few of us worked on, so that's 71 more stories left to repost. I feel like reposting these stories, or any of the threads, for that matter, is somewhat like accumulating House points, but in reverse; we're trying to empty a jar, instead of filling one, to get to zero left to do!
Something unexpected, while formatting Volumes IV onwards... it's fun seeing what the UK version of Word (that Verity saved those 7 volumes in) finds an incorrect spelling. When I save one of Verity's docs into my US version of Word, all the red lines Disapparate.
I just finished reformatting a story about the Marauders and Lily called 'The First Defiance'. A pretty good one... lots of fun, and entirely plausible, IMHO.

Severus' thoughts
Oh, Mona, don't worry... I'll figure it out. I like things to be a certain way (surprise, surprise ), and I like a challenge. But I'm going to leave it, and possibly Snape's reports, for the end, when all the other stories are posted. I'll just leave blank posts for them, when I get to those volumes, and then tackle them later.Mona wrote:Ooh, PAH, I remember how great the Daily Prophet story looked in the old forum. Good to hear you're on the mend, Verity.
Volume 7 is up, and Mona, you'll be surprised to find out which story you first participated in. And, not surprisingly, there's another Sev story in the bunch, about him trying to conjure his first Patronus. Interestingly, this story was written almost a year after DH was published, but one Five Worder chose to make Sev's Patronus a unicorn rather than a doe. I guess one's Patronus can change over time, at least in a Five Words story. (Just like Harry can have a half-brother... almost.)

a tapestry. What solution could
PAH, I'd like to tell you the origin of the unicorn Patronus. The story in question takes place while Lily is still alive, and for some reason the majority of participants seemed to agree that Snape's Patronus changed after Lily's death (as a result of the trauma) - perhaps there were some words in a JKR-interview indicating that, I'm not quite sure. (It is definitely said in HBP that a Patronus can change because of an emotional trauma.) Therefore we had to think of what his "original" Patronus could be, and after some discussion, I came up with the unicorn idea, which was accepted by others before it was actually used. It was based on "unicorn magic" on the one hand, and on the parallel between Snape in DH and the unicorn in PS on the other hand. (Both Snape and the unicorn were killed by Voldemort when Voldemort hoped to gain more power by this murder, both were found in a pool of their own blood by Harry, both deaths occurred just before Harry met Voldemort, in both cases Voldemort failed to acquire the power he was hoping for; and finally the unicorn is a symbol of innocence, and in Snape's case the fundemantal questions were those of guilt.) So actually it was not an ad hoc idea, but the result of a lot of discussion and analysis.

- "... be more fitting ..." is what I'm thinking of, but it could be lots of other things.

In a Potions class in HBP, once Slughorn tells his students to surprise him with a potion. Perhaps he has said the same to Snape's class as well, so Snape knows he likes surprises.
