Just to clarify, If Lily helps Sev with the potion, does she also knowingly help Sev put it in the bottle of mead to fool Slughorn, etc.? Or does Sev just keep that part to himself? Because the latter would seem unLily-like to me.Julia H. wrote:Will Lily help him?

If it's just a bit of Elixir to Induce Euphoria, which makes Slughorn happy and more "open-hearted", as a consequence of the euphoria, it does not seem to be unLily-like to me. She is a child, too, and probably capable of mischief. It would make her friend happier and would not hurt Slughorn. It's not like giving him a harmful potion or truly robbing him of his free will. I think it would be more fun, storywise, if they did the job together.

right before the Hallowe’en feast!
With this post, we are 205 posts and 1,025 words, just over halfway past a potential 2,000 word story. (Though this story does not strike me as needing to reach anywhere near that number of words... I think it could be told well enough in something more like 1,500 words.)

a card. A winking jack-o-lantern ... smiled...
The 8th volume of Five Word stories are posted! If you'd like to read any, check the link in the header post, in the quote box.
There were only 7 stories in this volume, but they contained some very l-o-o-o-ong tales. 4 out of the 7 stories were way over 2,000 words (2,365 to 2,875 words). That's 470 to almost 600 posts! I think this is when (fellow moderator) PatPat and I started thinking it was time to have a maximum length to these stories of under 2,000 words. I can't consult the post-story comments for that volume to be certain, since I never got around to assembling them all together in one 'post-story comments' post before WX closed. But I do remember those stories as being hard to moderate: for posters to keep track of the plot points, and for me to keep track of the posts. Thank goodness the days of epic Five Words stories are a thing of the past.
There was a great mix of stories: of course, a Sev and Liy one (the summer before their 1st year at Hogwarts), another Seamus and Dean adventure, Dudley's wedding, and stories with secondary and tertiary HP characters, like: a young Filius Flitwick (where Phineas Nigellus makes an appearance), Rita Skeeter, and Daisy Hookum (who was on a Wizarding card).
There were 2 stories where someone intentionally threw fellow posters for a loop, even when the majority of the posters tried to get the story back on track. One worked out well (Harry's adopted half-brother! in Dudley's wedding) and one worked, well… not so well (Aberforth Dumbledore/’Dumbledorish Guy’ at a Black family picnic). This is when the stories went overly-long, and some posters dropped out of participating because they couldn't follow what was going on. And then sometimes the poster who did the loop-throwing did not post much after the loop was thrown, leaving the other posters to figure it all out and get the story going again and finished. The consensus was: shorter stories work best!
Just Volumes 9 to 13 to reformat/repost, and the 4 revision stories... 54 in all. I think I can, i think I can.

Thanks, Verity! And your suggestion was along the lines of what I was thinking of, so I just used it!
My choice of card rather than a food treat in my previous post was inspired by how much Snape treasured Lily's signature in that bit he tore off from her letter to Sirius... so I thought something she made for him would do more to lift his spirits.
Volume IX, the current one I'm reformatting, has a great mix of stories... I'm looking forward to reposting those soon. Who remembers the HRH camping stories trilogy? Or Dagbert Pips? Or Jocunda Sykes? How 'bout Minnie and Auggie? Or trying to figure out Dean's backstory? Two or 3 more tales, of course... a Five Words volume wouldn't be complete without him.

Volume IX is up! I really liked that volume as a whole: shorter stories and a wonderful mix of subjects, especially stories about little-known characters in Potterverse where we had more scope to give free reign to our creativity.
Mona, I'll send you a PM with the answer to your question. For now, I'll just say, it's no one who's currently Five Worded here on forumotion.
It's good to be over the hump, with just 4 more volumes left.
But a 1000 x more exciting than that... (I forgot to mention it before ) HAPPY 1st day of term in your new school, Verity. Hope I got that right. I know you've had lots of meetings at school, etc. already, but a school isn't a school without kids walking around in it.
