Yay! A new Five Words story!
This topic reminds me of what is said to be the world's shortest short story, attributed to Ernest Hemingway:
For sale, baby shoes, never worn.
It's actually a very sad little story, but just shows how much meaning can be imbued in just a few words.
On a happier note, as today is 1st November, NaNoWriMo started today and I have 23 students from rade 4 to grade 12 who are participating. Although school is still closed this week because of the floods, I've been in touch with all of them electronically and they are all very excited and pumped up to be writing their novels. It's great to see their word counts creeping up already.

It did take me about an hour to start this new thread and update links, etc. but never mind all that. Back to Pottermore's Ravenclaw common room, where everyone's abuzz about the site's closing for a few days for maintenance.

A hint at why it's such a bargain and perhaps why it was worn only once.

I start a new thread, not a new post, and I guess it's here by magic, again. My days of worrying about starting new threads are officially over. Things will get done, whenever. Speaking of which, I have a trivia quiz to mark. Might as well take care of that now.

I just thought about the contact information. Presumably they wouldn't list fellytone numbers so would just communicate with owl mail. How else would they work these classified ads?

LOL, I've no idea what I'm doing. Hope this is ok!
Should it be "Ichabod Inglewright, care of The Daily Prophet" or something?

who will be able to
I don't think we need to add 'care of the Daily Prophet', otherwise we'd be repeatedly wasting five words on that phrase at the end of every ad. Let's just assume the readers know how the classified ads work!
Edited to change words to fit with Mona's original idea of the translator being a person, not a thing.

- Beedle the Bard or something else
I was thinking of a 'translator' as a person who translates stuff from one language to another. What were you thinking of, Verity? The 'that' in your post seems to indicate a thing rather than a person.
Edited to change 'rendering' to 'render'.

Beedle the Bard into Mermish
Oh, OK, now I understand. I was thinking of a thing, rather than a person, but a person probably would make more sense. I was wondering what kind of device would be able to translate runes. I could change my words to 'who would be able to' but then you'd need to change 'rendering' to 'render' for it still to make sense grammatically. I'll go ahead and make the change.
Congratulations on the trivia Mona.

Verity, you needen't have changed it. I can imagine a magical device to translate one language into another. We've even got our Muggle Translator websites, though they may not work that well.
**sigh** PAH, I saw your name and thought you had posted, and not 'non-posted' - Oh well...

- Spoiler:
- I will continue posting updates periodically, because it will make the job of posting the finished story much easier for me when this story ends. But as I said earlier, I start a new thread, not a new post, and I guess folks just think it appears here magically, as if I just waved my wand, and did not spend any time updating the previous header and update posts, updating links, etc., to get it up and running. This may be a forum devoted to the story of a boy and a magical society, but it takes some effort to get things posted here in it, and things don't happen just like *snap*, that.
Folks get mentioned for completing hangman puzzles, riddles, 20 Questions games, and trivia quizzes all the time on these game threads. But when I start a new game thread, to keep a game going, there's nary a mention. Again, I must've just waved my magic wand to make those threads appear as well.
I appreciate that I took longer than I usually take to set-up this new volume, but my track record speaks for itself when it comes to doing things quickly. As things have been moving along in this forum slowly for a while, I thought it would be no big deal to follow suit, especially as my laptop was in for repairs. I suppose I've made a habit of being prepared and getting things ready in advance, which folks have just taken for granted, or something, over the years. But there's no motivation for me to be mindful any more. So, my days of starting new game threads are officially over. Besides, there are plenty of others around to do it, who I am sure will get a word of thanks, as it will be such a novel occurrence. The only games thread I will continue to look in on is the Five Words one, to post updates, stories, stats, and post-story comments, should there be any.
I will update the Archives of the various games where Archives exist, for as long as those games are played, since I spent time putting the Archives together. I worked on them yesterday, as a matter of fact, and they are all up to date. But as for playing these games, I'm taking a bit of a break.

- I'm very sorry you feel that way PAH. Since you started this new thread, the only visitors, besides yourself, have been Mona and myself, and I feel that throughout our years of playing this game, Mona and I have been demonstrably appreciative of all of your efforts. I think everybody on here knows what a great job you do with behind the scenes stuff, especially when it comes to HTML coding and tricky stuff like that, even if they don't always say so. In my first post in this story, I may not have explicitly thanked you for starting the thread, but I conveyed my excitement and pleasure at the start of a new story and maybe I relied on smileys to get the message across instead of using actual words. However, I did post a message in the chat thread, (where more people were likely to see it) acknowledging your efforts.
I for one will be very sad if you no longer participate in five words. But it's obviously your choice. There doesn't seem much point in you continuing to compile the story and stats if you're not participating in the story though. Surely that would lead to you just feeling even more unappreciated than you do now. And I'm sorry you feel that way.

To PAH ~
- Spoiler:
- PAH, I'm sorry you still feel that way. I knew this was the problem from the beginning, but didn't say anything because, unlike Verity, I have nothing nice to say. The fact is, I cannot keep thanking people for anything and everything, all of the time. It becomes a chore, and it becomes totally meaningless, IMO. I will express appreciation for anything that really gets my attention, but I feel that there are many things in life that are just taken for granted, and that's good! If my family suddenly started thanking me for everything that I do, I'd feel most uncomfortable.
I hope very much that you'll reconsider your decicion and start posting again, but I must tell you that I will not express gratitude (to you or anyone else) for starting new threads (to name just one thing), no matter how much time it took. I've started threads myself and know it's not such a big deal. If you want to spend time copying all the header info, etc, that's your decicion and I assume your doing it because you like it that way, and not just for my sake. I'm also not fussed about threads splitting and continuing on their own, after the limit is reached. I feel that on the whole we've been very appreciative of you, and I'm sorry you want to disregard all that everytime you do some extra work and don't get specifically thanked for it.
I really feel there's no point in your continuing to post updates etc, if you're not planning to post. Verity and I have been carrying on bravely, but it's a strain - the atmosphere isn't OK, and if this continues, you'll probably soon have nothing to update or archive. However, I'll be really sad if you decide not to come back.
In short, I will continue to be an unappreciative wretch, but we miss you! Come back!
