Roonil Waslib?
Does that count as a person? I haven't checked the spelling, but I think that's right. It was the name written in the front of Ron's potions book, with his faulty quill.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
PAH, my favourite guess (i.e. Running Gag #1) is not the answer this time either - but Snape's story has something in common with the story of the answer.
Lady Arabella, the answer is not Mad-eye Moody, when Barty Crouch Jr. stole his identity, but it's an interesting guess. No identity theft in the riddle though.
Verity, it is not Roonil Waslib either. The "stolen name" is in a different sense.
I'm adding a new hint: Keep guessing, please.
I was not alone
How could I have known?
Another one's art
Robbed me at the start.
But that stolen name
Today I reclaim
Part of my old dreams
Has come true, it seems.
Hint: Warning: Bad Pun in the Riddle!
Hint 2: I am both young and old.
Guessed: Stubby Boardman, the Daily Prophet, Hagrid, Stan Shunpike, Harry, Snape, Mad-eye Moody, when Barty Crouch Jr. stole his identity, Roonil Waslib.

Riddle #478
Julia,
Would you mind posting what the running gags are again? I know you did so already, not too long ago, but I don't have time to search for that post. I think it would be a nifty bit of info. to post in the Riddles Archive.

Could it be Tom Riddle, Sr. whose name was stolen by Merope (using a love potion and marrying him under false pretenses)?.

PAH: The Running Gags:
#1 = Severus Snape
# 2 = Harry Potter
# 3 = The Elder Wand
Choices, you are nearly there! Actually, your guess could be as good as the actual answer, which is, originally, someone else. You have the "stolen name" right, but Tom Sr. was not really robbed of it in the sense I meant it...

Merope? (Grasping at straws here.) She stole Riddle's name, then reclaimed it when she named her son after him.

I like your reasoning, Puck, but Merope is not the answer (she is mentioned in the riddle though). You are still nearly there.

Thanks for the guess, Lady Arabella, but Tom Riddle Jr. aka Lord Voldemort is a step away from the answer.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
What about Tom Riddle Sr.'s girlfriend - from whom Merope stole Tom? (If she had a name, I don't remember what it was). Of course, I don't see how she fits with being both young and old . . . . .

Or Morfin Gaunt - or the Gaunt Family Name? Morfin seemed to feel Merope dishounoured the family consorting with a muggle and punished Tom Sr. to restore "family honor."

- Spoiler:
- Morfin Gaunt, but it is indeed Cecilia, Tom Riddle Sr.'s girlfriend. Here is the explanation:
I was not alone
How could I have known?
Reference to the fact that the only time we see Cecilia in the books is when she is with her boyfriend, Tom Riddle Sr., but it it also reference to the rivalry between her and Merope, of which she had no idea.
Another one's art
Robbed me at the start.
Merope's magic robbed Cecilia of Tom and of everything she expected - and here I assume that she was hoping to become Mrs Riddle one day.
But that stolen name
She probably wanted to be a Riddle, but instead of her, Merope became one.
Today I reclaim
Part of my old dreams
Has come true, it seems.
Here is the bad pun: Today, i.e., in this game (outside the book), Cecilia is a ... hm ... riddle.
Hint: Warning: Bad Pun in the Riddle!
See above ... I was also trying to direct you towards the Riddle family, hence the capital R.
Hint 2: I am both young and old.
This means only that she appears in the book as a young girl, but that was in fact several decades ago, so now (or during the "real time" HP-plot) she will be quite old.
Guessed: Stubby Boardman, the Daily Prophet, Hagrid, Stan Shunpike, Harry, Snape, Mad-eye Moody, when Barty Crouch Jr. stole his identity, Roonil Waslib, Tom Riddle, Sr., Merope, Tom Riddle Jr. (Lord Voldemort).

LOL Julia, when you explain it, it makes so much sense!
My little grey cells are exhausted by this point, so it may take a day or so to get the next riddle up.

Congrats, Lady A!
Julia, I took the liberty of removing the line breaks in your riddle and the solution in the answer box; it helps shorten the page's length onscreen. If you'd like me to put the line breaks back in, just let me know.

New Riddle!
Let me peek inside your brain,
just a look! (Are you sane? )
Are you scared of what I'll find
as I rummage through your mind?
I will ponder and will sift,
look for every little gift.
If my information's good,
Celebrate! You've found your 'hood!
warning: dreadful slang!

. . . The Sorting Hat!
Solution:
Let me peek inside your brain,
just a look! (Are you sane? )
In its own words, the Sorting Hat says there is nothing hidden in your head that it can't see . . .
Are you scared of what I'll find,
as I rummage through your mind?
"So put me on! Don't be afraid!"
I will ponder and will sift,
look for every little gift
The Sorting Hat will determine what qualities fit which House,
If my information's good,
Celebrate! You've found your 'hood!
'Hood - street slang for neighborhood, with the larger meaning of family. Each House will serve as the students home-away-from-home while they are at Hogwarts. And after being Sorted, the students celebrate at the Sorting Feast.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
OK, be kind - this is my first time as "the riddler". Let's get started........
Sometimes I'm nice....
Sometimes I'm not.
Sometimes I send you running for the chamber pot.
Once, I fooled a famous wizard.....
He has not forgot.
But beginning wizards like me,
sometimes quite a lot.
Can you guess my name?
Let the guessing begin.......
