Hi, I've just gotten back my COS since JKR announcement the H-BP comes out of COS. I've done a couple of searches but cant' find the book chat on the COS.
CoS has been the most over looked of the series, as I've considered it "Harry and Ron's Excellent Adventure". But going through with a more critical eye, I find it just fascinating how fat every paragraph is. I had noted before that JKR likes to introduce everything prior to it being really important to the story. The large spaces hidden in tight spots which is so important in GOF is introduced here in the Ford Anglia, Fred and George's talents with the fireworks from OoTP is introduced early in COS.
I have been a big champion of Harry-Ginny 'ship from early on and I think that family ties are the reason for it. Although I have felt that JK starts H-G shipping in PS/SS, it's in COS that I can find any real tangible references, in chapter 4, Draco taunts Harry that Ginny is his girlfriend at Florish and Blotts. JKR never uses words lightly, (ok maybe once with Mark Evans). But that reference does not seem a red herring. In chapter 6, when Ron gets his howler, Harry is right next to him and he too tries not to be noticed. He was -burning with guilt- at having cost Mr. Weasley problems "after all Mr and Mrs Weasley had done for him". When harry first lays eyes on the Burrows, he thinks it's -wonderful-.
At this point, I may start CoS again taking notes for every significant/insignificant word. Any one interested in COS chat with an eye to clues for H-BP?
Another question, Dumbledore already knows the Dursley's don't care about Harry or anything that happens in his world, so why bother sending them a letter? (If such a thread already exists please feel free to delete this.)
