Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
The riddle makes me think that perhaps it is a castle - taken from the "mighty king". Hogwarts was taken/created by the four founders who were kind and cared for the education of wizard children. Hogwarts is known in the wizarding world, but unknown to Muggles, and it has all sorts of wards on it to keep it unseen by those Muggles (but wizards can see it). Is it Hogwarts?

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
I'm sorry, Choices; Hogwarts is not the answer, though that was a good idea.
Taken from the mighty king,
I went to the kind and caring.
Taken again;
now kept within.
Known but unknown;
seen but unseen.
What am I?
Hint: The mighty king is not a person, creature or being.
Guessed: Gryffindor's sword, the Invisibility Cloak, Aragog, Snape's name, Hogwarts

I am not ignoring the riddle - I come here every day and read through it to see if inspiration strikes me, but alas, I have no clue.
Another wild guess - Is it Hagrid's dragon, Norbert?

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
So the mighty king is not a person or a creature or a being... Hm. My first thought was that the mighty king might be Death, hence my first guess, which was the Invisibility Cloak.
Here is another guess: Slytherin's locket?
Regulus could be the "kind and caring" (oh, and his name means 'little king' - but he is a person, and little is not 'mighty', LOL).
Intriguing riddle!

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Oh, Choices; that's a very warm guess! (No pun intended.) But it's not Hagrid's dragon, Norbert. I'm sorry, Julia; it's not Slytherin's locket either. Thank you both for the guesses.
Taken from the mighty king,
I went to the kind and caring.
Taken again;
now kept within.
Known but unknown;
seen but unseen.
What am I?
Hint 1: The mighty king is not a person, creature or being.
Hint 2: I would focus my time and energy figuring out the second line.
Guessed: Gryffindor's sword, the Invisibility Cloak, Aragog, Snape's name, Hogwarts, Hagrid's dragon, Norbert, Slytherin's locket

Is it possibly Hagrid's brother, Grawp?

That does fit the clues well, Choices, and you're still in the ball park. But Grawp is not the answer.

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Thanks for the guesses, Choices and Verity. Unfortunately, it is neither the Sphinx that Harry encounters in the maze nor Gubraithian fire, though they are both interesting guesses. So I'm going to add another hint.
Taken from the mighty king,
I went to the kind and caring.
Taken again;
now kept within.
Known but unknown;
seen but unseen.
What am I?
Hint 1: The mighty king is not a person, creature or being.
Hint 2: I would focus my time and energy figuring out the second line.
Hint 3: What four of Choices guesses have in common is the answer to the second line.
Guessed: Gryffindor's sword, the Invisibility Cloak, Aragog, Snape's name, Hogwarts, Hagrid's dragon, Norbert, Slytherin's locket, Grawp, Sphinx that Harry encounters in the maze, Gubraithian fire

Hmm . . is the "kind and caring" Hagrid?
The last four lines make me think of the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets.

Good to see you LA, and thanks for the guess. You have, indeed, figured out the second line. However the answer is not the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets.

No, I don't believe Fluffy went from a mighty king to Hagrid. But something did, and we're on the right track.

Thank you for the guess, LA. Unfortunately it is not the Philosopher's Stone as that doesn't belong to Hagrid (hint).

Re: Potty Games - Riddles Only (Vol. II)
Yes, it is, LA! Congratulations!
The explanation:
Taken from the mighty king,~ the oak tree is called the 'mighty oak' and is known as the 'king of the forest'
I went to the kind and caring. ~ Hagrid is kind and caring to animals and friends
Taken again; ~ the Ministry took Hagrid's right to use it and snapped it in half
now kept within.~ the wand is now hidden inside the pink umbrella
Known but unknown; ~ Hagrid and a few others know where the wand is, but the ministry doesn't
seen but unseen. ~ a few people have seen Hagrid use the umbrella to do magic, but most people are unaware that he can
What am I?~ Hagrid's wand
Hint 1: The mighty king is not a person, creature or being. ~ it's the oak tree
Hint 2: I would focus my time and energy figuring out the second line. ~ knowing it's Hagrid's narrows it down
Hint 3: What four of Choices guesses have in common is the answer to the second line. ~ the commonality was hagrid
Guessed: Gryffindor's sword, the Invisibility Cloak, Aragog, Snape's name, Hogwarts, Hagrid's dragon, Norbert, Slytherin's locket, Grawp, Sphinx that Harry encounters in the maze, Gubraithian fire, the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets, Fluffy, the three headed dog, the Philosopher's Stone, Hagrid's wand

Wow!
That was a great riddle Shepherdess!
Now I need to put my thinking cap on for a new riddle . . . .
If someone has a riddle ready, feel free to dive in. It will be a few days before I can come up with something.

Thanks for the guesses Choices and Shepherdess, but the answer is neither Mad-Eye Moody or the Whomping Willow.

Guessed: Mad-Eye Moody, The Whomping Willow
(I thought this would be guessed immediately - maybe my clues are improving, or not, as the case may be.)

That's a great guess Shepherdess - it fits the "multiplying" part, but it's not the answer! I'll post a hint below.

I multiplied myself to no avail.

Mental faculties undoing,
You can't escape from me though storms may wail.

Guessed: Mad-Eye Moody, The Whomping Willow, the treasure in the Lestrange vault
